Chapter 20
You don't need to go.
The next day, Qin Mo spent the day treating Shao Lanfang at the hotel, and then accompanied her out for a walk to clear her head.
In the middle of the day, Su Wanxing called to say that she was a bit busy today and would have her secretary come over at five o'clock to help him change clothes and get a makeover.
But by 5:30 p.m., Secretary Zhao still hadn't shown up, and no one answered Su Wanxing's phone.
"Does this mean I don't need to go?"
Qin Mo was feeling relaxed and was just about to rest for a while before taking Shao Lanfang out for dinner when the doorbell rang.
As soon as the door opened, a sophisticated urban woman in a designer suit stood outside, exuding the allure of designer perfume.
She had delicate features and her hair was neatly tied back.
His expression, however, revealed a hint of impatience.
Seeing the door open, she didn't rush in. She looked Qin Mo up and down, her serious expression carrying a hint of scrutiny.
"You're Qin Mo?"
Qin Mo nodded: "You're Secretary Zhao, right? You've come at the perfect time; any later and I'd be leaving..."
Before she could finish speaking, Zhao Ke'er's scrutinizing expression turned into a hint of contempt: "Heh, you really are impatient."
"Let me be frank with you, I deliberately came late."
"I thought you would understand my intentions, but I didn't expect you to be so dense."
"Then I'll be frank with you, this kind of occasion tonight isn't for someone like you."
"Call Ms. Su yourself later and tell her you don't want to go."
As she spoke, she glanced at the Longines watch on her wrist, her tone businesslike: "Alright, I won't waste any more time with you. I have something to do, so I'll be going now."
Before she could turn around, Qin Mo asked, "Is this Su Wanxing's idea?"
Whether he goes to the banquet or not is none of his concern.
However, if the cooperation has been agreed upon, and Su Wanxing's attitude is like this, then there's no need to continue.
He didn't want to be treated like a fool.
Zhao Ke'er, looking impatient, crossed her arms and scoffed, "Does it really matter that much whether it's President Su's opinion or not?"
She said with an aloof expression, "Let me be frank, I'm not only President Su's secretary, but also her friend."
"I don't mean to look down on you, but your background and status are far inferior to Wanxing's."
"I've heard that your master was kind to Mr. Su, and you just saved Wanxing's life."
"But one thing is one thing. Wanxing is destined to stand on the mountaintop. Even if you have superb medical skills, you shouldn't take advantage of her kindness."
"Your presence tonight will only tarnish her reputation, and I don't want that to happen. Do you understand?"
When Zhao Ke'er learned that Su Wanxing had agreed to the marriage, she was furious.
She and Su Wanxing were college roommates and had a very good relationship.
In her eyes, given Su Wanxing's background and abilities, even if she were to marry, it should be to someone of equal social standing, not a penniless convict.
If Qin Mo had the self-awareness to withdraw voluntarily, she would still have more respect for Su Wanxing's savior.
However, if he doesn't appreciate her kindness and tries to take advantage of her, then she shouldn't blame him.
Qin Mo realized that Zhao Ke'er had acted on her own initiative in this matter.
He grabbed a jacket casually: "Since it wasn't Su Wanxing's idea, and it's about time, let's go."
Seeing that he still insisted on going, Zhao Ke'er stomped her foot in anger: "What's wrong with you? Can't you understand human language?"
"I've made it perfectly clear to you. There will be quite a few relatives of the Su family here tonight. They're just waiting to see Wanxing make a fool of herself."
"If you go now, what will you be doing but embarrassing her!"
She despises people who expect something in return for saving her life; anyone who asks for something in return must have ulterior motives.
Qin Mo's insistence on going was seen by her as a determination to climb the social ladder!
Qin Mo ignored her rising and falling chest in anger, and went straight downstairs to avoid Zhao Ke'er disturbing her mother's rest.
"Stop right there! I told you, you're not allowed to go, stop!"
Zhao Ke'er never expected this person to be so shameless, chasing Qin Mo all the way downstairs.
But just as the two arrived at the garage, they saw a girl in a white dress standing next to Zhao Ke'er's car, holding a small bear in her arms, staring inside.
Zhao Ke'er was taken aback, and immediately forgot about Qin Mo: "Hey, what are you doing?"
She strode over and pulled the girl aside, saying, "Are you crazy? What are you staring at my car for?"
The girl was pulled by her sudden appearance and almost fell over.
Qin Mo followed and, with quick reflexes, grabbed the girl in his arms.
Are you alright?
Hearing the sound, the girl looked up.
The girl looked to be about eighteen or nineteen years old, but her expression was somewhat blank.
Her porcelain doll-like face was lifeless, and her large, dark eyes were dull and lifeless.
However, upon seeing Qin Mo, a glimmer of light appeared in her eyes.
"Um?"
Upon seeing the girl's appearance, Qin Mo was stunned for a moment: "You..."
Something's not right about this girl.
Zhao Ke'er checked her BMW sports car, made sure there were no problems, and breathed a sigh of relief.
However, she then looked at the girl with an angry expression: "What's wrong with you? What are you doing next to my car? Are you trying to steal something?"
Qin Mo helped the girl up and made her stand up. The girl seemed to be frightened by Zhao Ke'er and hid behind Qin Mo, refusing to come out.
"Secretary Zhao, don't get so angry."
"She probably just saw the toys in your car. Since there's no real loss, let's just let it go."
Qin Mo pointed, and sure enough, there was a plush toy in Zhao Ke'er's car.
Zhao Ke'er then realized that the girl seemed to have some mental issues.
He was clearly an eighteen or nineteen-year-old adult, yet he was holding a teddy bear, reacting very slowly, and his feet were bare.
Realizing she had misunderstood, Zhao Ke'er felt a little embarrassed, but she still kept a straight face: "So what? If you have a problem with your brain, you shouldn't have come out and caused trouble for others."
"Alright, alright, I'm not going to waste my time with you!"
Her eyes darted around, and she seized the opportunity to open the door and get into the car: "I see you're so kind-hearted, you wouldn't just abandon such a young girl, would you?"
"Okay, you'll take her home. I'll put in a good word with President Su."
"Don't worry, I'll definitely put in a good word for you."
Seeing that she could shake off Qin Mo, Zhao Ke'er immediately started the engine and sped away.
"Oh, this..."
Seeing that Zhao Ke'er's car had already driven out of the garage, Qin Mo sighed softly, "Alright, this can't be considered me breaking the agreement."
Even if Zhao Ke'er hadn't run away, he really wouldn't have abandoned the girl.
"Little girl, where did you come from? Where are your family?"
He turned his head and asked patiently, but the girl seemed to remember something, and a look of horror appeared on her face.
It was at this moment that a noise suddenly came from the basement.
Several motorcycles with flashing lights emerged from the garage entrance and circled around the two of them, frightening the little girl who cowered behind Qin Mo.
Qin Mo coldly observed these people, wondering who had summoned them.
Just then, the car stopped, and a man wearing a helmet said coldly to Qin Mo, "Kid, hand over the girl behind you, and I'll spare your life."
