Chapter 65

New Changes

News of Quirrell's fainting spell quickly spread throughout the school.

The next day, at the dining table in the auditorium, all the professors and students were discussing the matter. Even the alchemy professor and the ancient runes professor, who were rarely seen, appeared at the table, whispering among themselves like the students.

Professor Kettleburn was the one who brought up this topic most bluntly.

He lowered his voice and leaned close to his colleague, saying:

"Hey, how exactly did Quirinas collapse? I heard from Bobby that when she went to deliver his sedatives last night, she found he was completely unresponsive and only opened his eyes this morning. Bobby was terrified."

"I heard Albus is also investigating this matter. If Quirinus hadn't said it wasn't a big deal, the school would probably have had to impose an early curfew."

Professor Philomon, sitting to Victor's right, muttered after swallowing two pieces of potato:

"There's not much to guess about that."

"As everyone knows, no Defense Against the Dark Arts professor has lasted more than a year in many years... I must say, this position is definitely cursed."

Professor Kettleburn took another swig of his drink and shook his head helplessly:

"It wasn't this scary before. This semester has only been going on for a few months, so it seems like the signs of trouble won't appear until at least after Christmas."

The two professors, who had worked here for many years, immediately began to discuss the matter, one after the other—it was a hot topic at Hogwarts many years ago.

Since Galatea Merrist, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor who had worked at Hogwarts for fifty years, retired, no one has been able to stay in the position for more than a year.

Quirrell now seems unlikely to stay for more than a year.

On the other hand, Victor wasn't interested in the topic at all. Sitting next to the two of them, Victor continued to eat his breakfast, which consisted of lemon cake and a lethal dose of sugar cube black tea.

...After all, Quirrell's actions weren't a curse, but something he did.

He has fulfilled Quirrell's wish.

Thinking about this, Victor was actually quite pleased.

He thought that although he had made the decision for Quirrell in advance, without giving him time to think it over carefully, he had still fulfilled Quirrell's wish—Quirock seemed to really want the formula, so he simply handed over the improved formula, so that Quirrell would no longer have to go through the trouble of trying to get it.

If studied carefully, that formula could be very effective, and could even remove the bloated soul from Quirrell's body, just as he initially said.

Quirrell must be very happy now, right?

Victor felt like a fairy godmother, fulfilling others' wishes and taking a significant step in improving his reputation. Even if he received some payment from Quirrell, and would receive more in the future, Quirrell probably wouldn't mind.

This is a win-win situation.

Victor calmly ate another ice cream, completely unaware that the conversation around him had progressed to "There must have been a powerful dark wizard who cursed the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and that dark wizard has returned."

However, after a while, Professor Philomon suddenly called out to Victor, then carefully examined his features and slowly said:

"Victor, did you drink the vitality potion this morning?"

"No. What's wrong?"

Victor frowned and looked over.

Professor Philomon looked at him for a while, then said somewhat uncertainly, "Oh, that might be my imagination. I just feel that your face has become a bit more rosy—not that you were pale before, but it does seem a little more flushed."

Victor paused for a moment, then said softly:

"Is that so? I understand."

.......

Long ago, Victor had investigated the true nature of his relationship with Granny Baba Yaga. Was it because they were destined to fulfill their duties that they didn't look like others, or was it actually a curse?

The final result of the study may be both.

Grandma Baba Yaga often says that this is because they have to let go of too many attachments in their lives. Only when their minds become normal will their souls become normal as well.

Victor actually agreed with this idea, so he had been doing it all along—but progress was inexplicably slow.

But since it was still progressing, he didn't pay much attention to it.

I never expected to have such an unexpected gain today.

In short, he finally had some concept and understanding of what the fate of this world was. Many teachers and students in Hogwarts were probably closely related to fate, so making deals with them and fulfilling their wishes would naturally bring more substantial changes than elsewhere.

With these thoughts in mind, Victor quietly left the auditorium and went to an empty classroom.

Then, he took out an antique-looking mirror from his pocket.

The back of the mirror has ancient patterns that look weathered, but this only adds to its mysterious aura.

The mirror was blurry at first, but after Victor looked at it for a while, his face quickly appeared in the mirror:

His pupils were still the same as before, making his eyes look somewhat sinister and cold—but his complexion had indeed improved a lot, and a human-like rosy hue could be seen on his cheeks.

Now, he is just a little paler than an ordinary person, but he doesn't look like a zombie anymore.

After observing for a few seconds, Victor suddenly said in a low voice:

"Magic mirror, magic mirror, tell me!"

"Have I received new revelations or powers? What are they?"
