Chapter 3
The Savior's Destiny, Renting a Boat
"Is the end of the world coming in a week?"
After the two morning classes ended, it was time for morning exercises. Su Muyun arrived at the back of the school parking lot as agreed.
There's usually no one here, so she has 20 minutes.
"6 days and 20 hours."
Jiang Yan leaned against the shade of the parking shed. Ever since he learned that the sun in this timeline was about to mutate, he had been reluctant to be exposed to sunlight.
"Do you know the specifics?" Su Muyun asked.
Jiang Yan didn't hide anything: "The sun has mutated. If a human is exposed to sunlight for 3 minutes, their genes will collapse and they will turn into zombies, the kind of zombies you often see in movies."
She nodded silently, which matched her nightmare. In her dream, she clearly saw that many people mutated after entering the sunlight.
She had specifically searched for it a few days ago and found no zombie movies of the "sunshine contagion" type on the entire internet, so it was no coincidence that the man in front of her could say this crucial information.
Such a vivid dream must be a precognitive dream.
When she was a child, she dreamed that Germany beat Brazil 7-1. With lofty ideals, she stole a month's salary from her father when he was drunk and went to the sports lottery center to buy the score.
The marriage nearly ended in divorce, but the odds of 6500 times the payout ultimately saved it.
In short, she possesses a magical power.
"Is there any way to save this?" Su Muyun asked cautiously. "Or maybe we could get everyone to take refuge in advance... My dad still has some influence, and he'll listen to me on some things."
Jiang Yan shook his head:
"I have no convincing evidence that your father, no matter how powerful, could not have done such a thing."
However, he wasn't doing nothing. He planned to release some survival videos a day or two before the apocalypse, keeping the videos anonymous so the cyber police wouldn't be able to catch him so quickly.
The video content included advice such as avoiding sun exposure and stockpiling survival supplies.
If we invest tens of thousands more in Douyin (TikTok) to boost the video, we can save as many lives as possible.
Humans are dangerous, especially after the apocalypse, but they are also the most important resource and means of production.
Survival was merely his primary goal.
"Then why did you come to me?" Su Muyun knew the answer perfectly well.
Jiang Yan paused for a moment, then said, "You are the savior."
Okay, this sounds even more absurd than I imagined...
Wait a minute, why does she have that "I knew it" look on her face?
Jiang Yan really couldn't figure out what she was thinking, so he could only continue:
"I won't ask you to trust me right now. I'll prepare a shelter in advance. You can live normally like this until the end of the world, but after six days you must stay indoors in a safe place and have enough supplies ready for me."
Anyway, he had already made the worst-case scenario plan; if all else failed, he would forcibly tie the savior to the ship in a few days.
"I said it, and I believe it."
Su Muyun insisted, her eyes shining brightly: "You just need to tell me how to be a qualified savior."
This question surprised Jiang Yan, but in other words, it was about what kind of savior would make things easier for him.
So he casually listed a few requirements: "Excellent physical fitness, outstanding endurance, and preferably both strength and agility, because there is a need for fighting zombies."
"I'm an expert in survival skills. I'll compile some information that I think is useful and send it to you. You can study it when you have time."
"Master at least one skill so that you can be put into production work at any time."
"Finally, you must have a belief that can inspire others, and maintain hope no matter how dire the situation."
Jiang Yan spoke earnestly, and Su Muyun remembered it clearly.
For some reason, she suddenly felt hungry after hearing that Jiang Yan needed a strong savior.
I really want to eat meat.
A tight, swollen feeling spread throughout my body.
However, she didn't pay much attention to it because she was in good health and had almost never been sick.
As the morning exercise was about to end, Jiang Yan gave Su Muyun his newly created WeChat account and phone number, left his name, and then left the school.
He can contact her after school if there's anything, as he'll be busy starting this afternoon.
As soon as he stepped out of the school gate, he received a text message on his phone.
-
Savior: Su Muyun
Destiny: Unknown
Current degree of influence on destiny: 2%
"Destiny?" Jiang Yan recognized that the text message came from "People's Union".
The words "Destiny" are in blue; clicking on them will display a smaller description.
Destiny: A certain trait inherent in the savior, which you can gradually replicate through contact during the teaching process. The higher the degree of immersion, the more obvious the destiny manifests, and multiple layers can be stacked.
"Su Muyun does indeed have something extraordinary about her, which seems to resemble some kind of 'passive skill'."
Jiang Yan thought to himself that he had never intended to give up on Su Muyun, but now he was pleasantly surprised.
After all, he was the savior handpicked by the People's Federation.
He hailed a taxi and headed to the pier according to the address on "Chuanyou Shipping".
After a half-hour drive, Jiang Yan arrived at Hope Wharf.
This third-tier city is located on the coast, but it lacks a deep-water port. Therefore, most of the boats moored at the seaside are fishing boats, not ocean-going vessels of tens of thousands of tons.
The dock was windy and slippery, with traces of blood still visible. The fishy smell mixed with the diesel fumes assaulted Jiang Yan's nostrils.
The weather is nice today. Fishing boats of all sizes are drying their nets, and several sailors are washing the decks as they come and go.
Upon seeing the approaching people, several dogs on the dock began barking from afar, attracting the attention of the captain in the cabin.
"Is this Boss Jiang?"
The boat captain stood at the bow, waving from afar: "Was that you who contacted me on the phone?"
"Yes, Captain Zhang?" Jiang Yan stood on the shore and looked up at the fishing boat.
This vessel is not large, about 15 meters long, with a steel hull and an overall gray-blue color.
"Boss Jiang is quite young. What are you planning to do with the rented boat?"
Captain Zhang subtly sized up Jiang Yan. He looked young and unfamiliar, and judging from his build and hands, he was a capable worker, but not a fisherman.
"Yes, a dozen or so friends are coming from Shanghai to visit. They want to try sea fishing and such, and plan to rent a big boat to do it." Jiang Yan had already prepared his explanation. "Don't worry, we know the rules. We'll sign a contract, and we'll cover any damage to the boat."
Captain Zhang nodded repeatedly: "Shanghai...you probably know how much the rental fee and fuel cost, right? Come with me to that small boat, I'll take you to see the big ships over there."
The pier is shallow, so only small boats and dinghies under 10 meters long are moored there. Vessels over 20 meters long are moored in the deeper water.
The speedboat started with a "whoosh" and arrived between the large ships in the blink of an eye. As it got closer, its enormous size became even more apparent, with the ships themselves standing five or six meters tall on the water.
"Boss Jiang, this 'Fuyuan' is the one you saw on your phone. It's seven or eight years old, sturdy and durable. Want to go aboard and take a look?"
Captain Zhang pointed to a gray fishing boat.
Jiang Yan's gaze, however, was drawn to another large ship, white with a red hull. The ship was very new and gleamed beautifully in the sunlight.
This is the largest and newest vessel in the nearby waters.
"What about that one? Is it yours?"
Captain Zhang hesitated slightly: "That ship... it was just launched last month. It's new, but much more expensive."
"It's alright, money is not a problem," Jiang Yan said immediately.
The ship is at least 35 meters long and about 8 meters high in the water, making it difficult to board using unconventional methods.
The boat is new, which will save a lot of trouble.
"What's the name of this boat?" As the speedboat approached, Jiang Yan couldn't resist reaching out to touch its beautiful, streamlined body.
Men often have little resistance to large machinery, such as excavators, helicopters, and fishing boats. He had done some basic training in Hawaii so that he could use them in case of danger someday.
"Nautilus"
Captain Zhang opened the side gangway, turned around and smiled: "My son named it; he's always loved adventure."
Jiang Yan secretly rejoiced, thankfully he wasn't a fan of romance novels, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to keep up with the "Titanic".
"Come on, let's get on board and take a look."
