Chapter 88

I Don't Mind

Chapter 88 I Don't Mind

When Yang Yi pushed open the office door, she was still carrying that thing in her hand, walking hurriedly without even glancing down at it.

Shen Xiao was nestled on the sofa. Hearing the noise, she looked up, her novel half-read and resting on her lap. Her gaze swept over, then suddenly froze.

"You're back?" She tilted her head, her gaze falling on Yang Yi's hand. "Hey, where did this alarm clock come from? It's quite nice. Was it a gift for me?"

Upon hearing Shen Xiao's words, Yang Yi was taken aback. Looking down, she noticed the alarm clock in her hand.

"Ah, this—" He stammered, unsure how to answer. "It's not mine. I took it when I went to Huang Yan's place to talk business. I'll return it later."

He paused, then added, "You want one? I'll buy you one."

Shen Xiao shook her head without suspicion, her gaze returning to the novel. "No need, it just looks quite good. I don't need an alarm clock, my phone is enough."

Yang Yi didn't say anything more, opened the drawer and put the alarm clock inside. Her expression was complicated.

He stood in front of the desk, his hand still on the drawer handle, his expression somewhat complicated.

If I take this, Huang Yan should be able to close it, right?

I think it's possible!

He pulled his hand from the drawer, wiped it on his trouser leg, turned around and sat down in his boss's chair. The thought was still swirling in his mind—have toys become so sophisticated now that they can be placed on a table as decorations?

An hour later, Huang Yan, blushing, knocked on the door and came in. Yang Yi was looking down at the proposal.

He looked up when he heard the door open, but before he could speak, he saw Huang Yan's selfie pass over him and land precisely on Shen Xiao on the sofa.

Her pupils contracted sharply, and she froze at the doorway, as if a pause button had been pressed.

Yang Yi looked at her face, which was red from her neck to her ears, and she looked like she was about to cry, and coughed lightly.

"Shen Xiao, my throat is a little sore. Go get me a cup of fruit tea, the kind that soothes my throat."

Upon hearing this, Shen Xiao looked up from her novel, her gaze lingering on his face for a moment: "You have a cold?"

"No, it's just a sore throat."

She put down her book, stood up, and glanced at Huang Yan as she walked to the door. Huang Yan immediately lowered her head and stared at the tips of her shoes.

Shen Xiao didn't say anything, opened the door and went out.

The moment the door closed, Huang Yan felt as if her bones had been removed; her shoulders slumped, and she let out a long sigh.

"Boss—" She strode to the desk, her voice low, her gaze already fixed on Yang Yi's drawer, "Where's my little 'alarm clock'?"

Yang Yi opened the drawer and placed the "alarm clock" on the table. Huang Yan grabbed it and took out a palm-sized long object from her pocket with her other hand, inserting it into an interface on the top of the disc.

The faint buzzing stopped instantly.

As the sound completely disappeared, Yang Yi couldn't help but cough: "This thing—it's not advanced at all. It has to be plugged back in to stop?"

Huang Yan looked up at him, her eyes filled with resentment, and her eyes were even a little red: "Even the designers didn't expect that someone would take the base away."

She paused, her voice laced with an indescribable gritted teeth: "Do you know how long it shook? An hour."

Yang Yi felt a chill run down her spine from her gaze, and quickly looked down at the proposal on the table, pretending not to hear.

After flipping through a couple of pages, I tried to change the subject, looking up to ask a question. Halfway through, I couldn't help but change my mind: "Have you finished reading the proposal I gave you? Can we outsource it? — And that —"

He paused for a moment: "Why didn't you pull it out yourself?"

Huang Yan's face, which had already cooled down a bit, suddenly burned again upon hearing these words, and even her neck turned bright red.

She bit her lower lip, her eyes fixed on Yang Yi, her tone carrying a forced air of sophistication: "This isn't—"

"It's to let you experience what it's like to live a good life."

"————" Yang Yi opened her mouth, then closed it again.

Huang Yan continued, her voice lower: "I'll draw this out later, maybe I can win an award —."

Yang Yi was completely silent for two seconds, then turned to the next page of the proposal, tapped the paper with the cap of his pen, making two loud thuds: "Be serious, I'm asking you a question."

Huang Yan rolled her eyes at him, her rosy cheeks making her look quite pretty: "We can outsource it, but you also wrote in the proposal that there are many plot hints in the scene details and on the map."

"This is something we have to handle ourselves, and our art department doesn't have enough people to develop new projects right now."

Yang Yi indicated that she understood, twirling a pen between her fingers: "I plan to hire more art graduates to handle simple drawing work for the company. You'll be in charge of that."

Huang Yan thought for a moment, then suddenly gave a meaningful smile: "Okay. But if I'm picky, I prefer artists with a 'sorrowful' style."

She paused for a moment, then said, "Let Shen Xiao help with the review."

Yang Yi gave her a look that seemed to say, "Are you seriously ill?" and said, "We're not developing a pornographic game, so what do we need an artist with a lewd art style for?"

Huang Yan said matter-of-factly, "These kinds of artists are great at everything except drawing mecha and monsters. Especially when it comes to the beauty of the human body."

She placed her hands on the table, leaning slightly forward: "Didn't you choose me because I drew black lilies? If I hadn't drawn erotic butts, would I have become the head of the art department?"

Yang Yi was speechless for a long time after hearing her confident argument. He waved his hand dismissively, as if shooing away a fly: "Alright, alright, let's arrange it this way."

Huang Yan smiled with satisfaction and turned to walk out.

Yang Yi quickly called out to her, "Hey! Take your 'alarm clock' with you!"

Huang Yan paused when she heard the call at the door. She glanced back at Yang Yi, her gaze falling on the yellow and pink alarm clock on his desk before looking away.

"It's yours, boss!" Huang Yan smiled mysteriously. "Boss, I'm not tanned yet~."

After saying that, she opened the door and went out.

Yang Yi sat in the chair, stared at the closed door for several seconds, then reached for the mineral water on the table, unscrewed the cap, and took a big gulp.

But the cold water couldn't quell the burning heat in my heart.

He put the bottle down, sighed, and lowered his head to continue revising the proposal.

Five minutes later, Shen Xiao pushed open the door and came in, holding a cup of pale yellow fruit tea with a layer of fine water droplets on the cup.

She placed the cup beside Yang Yi, sat down opposite him, crossed her legs, and looked at his face.

Why is Huang Yan's face so red?

Yang Yi picked up the fruit tea and took a sip. It was honey lemon, sweet and sour, and her throat did feel much better after swallowing.

"She just ran here, she's hot."

"oh."

Shen Xiao nodded and didn't ask any further questions. She picked up the novel on the sofa, turned to the page with the folded corner, and continued reading.

The office fell silent.

Only the scratching of Yang Yi's pen on the paper and the occasional sound of Shen Xiao turning pages filled the air.

Ten minutes later.

Shen Xiao spoke, her voice soft and sweet.

"Brother Yang, if you can't resist, you can give it a try. I don't mind."

The rustling sound on Yang Yi's desk stopped, and he didn't know what to do.

Agreeing is not an option, and refusing is also not an option, so I can only pretend to be dead.

Seeing this, Shen Xiao smiled, turned around, pushed open the office door, and walked out.

Yang Yi looked up and saw the tightly closed door, then breathed a sigh of relief.

He continued to refine the proposal, trying to calm his racing heart. He couldn't deny that he was genuinely tempted by what Shen Xiao said.
