Chapter 80: Interrogation Begins, Interrogation Ends (Third Update, Please Subscribe)
Ye Xiaoli shook his head: "No, the kidnapper did all the talking. His voice sounded strange, maybe he used a voice changer or something —"
"Oh, right, after the kidnapper hung up, I called back, but it was a busy signal like a public phone. I've already had my personal assistant, Philip, check with the telecommunications company."
Shen Shaofeng nodded in understanding; the kidnappers had clearly made thorough preparations for counter-tracking.
"Mr. Ye, I need to know the details of how Mr. Ye Rongheng was kidnapped this afternoon."
Ye Xiaoli pressed the intercom on his desk: "Philip, come in for a moment."
A few minutes later, there was a knock on the study door.
"Come in."
A middle-aged man walked in, exuding a capable air; he was Qiu Shimin, Ye Xiaoli's personal assistant.
"Ye Sheng, you were looking for me."
"Philip, this is Inspector Shen, he's here specifically to help us. Tell Inspector Shen in detail what happened this afternoon."
Say it once.
Qiu Shimin nodded slightly to Shen Shaofeng: "Hello, Mr. Shen, my surname is Qiu. This afternoon, Young Master Heng and two friends watched the horse races at the Jockey Club and left around 2:30. His driver, Zhao Zhixin, was driving a Mercedes-Benz S600, while Young Master Heng's friend drove his own car—"
"The car was driving along Wong Nai Chung Road toward Repulse Bay when it was sandwiched between a black Toyota Hiace van and a Peugeot 405 at a bend in Deep Water Bay Road."
"There were six kidnappers in total, all wearing hoods. The leader was pointing a shotgun at the driver, while the others dragged Young Master Heng out of the car, stuffed him into a van, and then quickly drove away. The whole process took less than three minutes."
"Henry's two friends witnessed the whole thing from the car behind, but they were too afraid to get out. They only notified us after the kidnappers left—"
Shen Shaofeng frowned in thought.
They attacked from both sides at a specific location, were fully equipped, camouflaged, and then quickly retreated.
These kidnappers were clearly professionals, and their plan was meticulously executed.
He looked up at Ye Xiaoli: "Mr. Ye, who in his company or residence knows about Ye Rongheng's whereabouts today?"
"Sir Shen, do you mean there's a mole within Joe's ranks who betrayed him?"
"As per usual procedure."
Ye Xiaoli's face darkened: "Actually, I've had my doubts about what you said. But Joe's decision to go to the Jockey Club instead of the company today was a spur-of-the-moment thing. Not many people know about it, besides his driver, his two friends Li Wenjie and Zhou Junming, and a few servants at home—"
"Where is the driver now?"
"I had bodyguards watching him in the wine cellar."
"I've also sent someone to 'invite' those two friends; they should be arriving soon."
A fierce glint flashed in Ye Xiaoli's eyes: "If I find out it really is them, hmph!"
Fang Jianping gently patted the back of his hand: "Howard, the key now is to save Joe, don't cause any unnecessary trouble."
Ye Xiaoli grasped Fang Jianping's hand in return and said softly, "I know, Lisa, I won't do anything reckless."
Huo Xixian was startled by the expression Ye Xiaoli had just shown. He glanced at Shen Shaofeng but remained silent.
Just as Ye Xiaoli finished speaking, there was a knock on the door outside the study.
Qiu Shimin went to open the door, whispered a few words, and then turned around and said, "Mr. Ye, the person has been brought."
"Let them in."
Two bodyguards led in two pale-faced, well-dressed young men.
Both men were in their early twenties and looked like they came from wealthy families, but they were trembling with fear.
"Uncle Ye————"
Ye Xiaoli pointed to Shen Shaofeng: "This is Inspector Shen, a good friend of our Ye family. He wants to ask you about Joe's kidnapping."
"You are all well aware of the current situation, so answer whatever Inspector Shen asks, without hiding anything."
o
"Sir Shen, this is Li Wenjie, and this is Zhou Junming. They are both Joe's friends."
He pointed to Li Wenjie on the left and Zhou Junming on the right, and gave a brief introduction to Shen Shaofeng.
Shen Shaofeng stood up and walked to the two of them.
He didn't speak immediately, but simply glanced at the two men in turn.
The two became even more nervous under his gaze, and Zhou Junming even subconsciously took a half step back.
"Mr. Ye, Mrs. Ye, Helan, and Assistant Qiu. According to procedure, I need to question them individually."
"Excuse me, everyone, and Mr. Zhou, could you please wait outside for a moment?"
Ye Xiaoli gave Shen Shaofeng a deep look, but didn't ask any further questions; he simply nodded.
Having reached his position, he naturally understands certain rules governing police investigations.
He stood up, patted Fang Jianping's hand, and the three of them, along with Qiu Shimin and Zhou Junming, left the study.
The door closed gently.
Only Shen Shaofeng and Li Wenjie remained in the room.
"Mr. Li, please have a seat."
Shen Shaofeng picked up a thermos from the table, poured two glasses of warm water, and handed one to Li Wenjie.
"Have some water first, calm down. Don't be afraid, I just want to understand the situation."
Li Wenjie took the water glass, his hands still trembling slightly, and took a small sip.
"Mr. Li, could you please recount every detail of this afternoon, from your meeting with Ye Rongheng until the incident?"
Shen Shaofeng picked up the pen and paper on the table: "Today, it was Young Master Heng who took the initiative to invite us to watch the horse race. He often invites us to go fishing at sea, or bungee jumping or something —"
Shen Shaofeng nodded, knowing that this third young master of the Ye family was a kind-hearted playboy in "Genesis".
"Ah Ming and I, oh, I mean Zhou Junming, arrived at the Jockey Club around one o'clock. Young Master Heng was already there and waiting for us in the private room—"
His narration was somewhat fragmented, and sometimes even lacked a clear distinction between main and secondary points. He focused on which race and which horse Ye Rongheng had his eye on, which jockey he was acquainted with, and the tips he had.
But Shen Shaofeng listened patiently, occasionally asking about one or two details.
For example, "How does Yip Wing-hang seem to be in a good mood? Is there anything unusual?", "Besides watching the horse race, what else did you talk about?" and so on.
"Around 2:20, Young Master Heng said he had to leave first—"
"We split into two cars, one was Young Master Heng's Mercedes-Benz, and the other was my Volkswagen. I drove, and Zhou Junming sat in the passenger seat."
"We had only been driving on Huangniyong Road for a few minutes when a gray car in front of us suddenly swerved and stopped sideways, and then a black van blocked our way from behind."
At this point, Li Wenjie suddenly stopped and shook his head violently: "No, no, Inspector Shen, the van was in front, and the gray car was behind it, yes, that's it!"
Shen Shaofeng nodded, rewrote the record, and gestured for him to continue.
"Several thieves suddenly jumped out of the car, all wearing masks and baseball caps, so their faces couldn't be seen—"
"Someone pointed a gun at the driver, Brother Xin, and others pointed guns at us, telling us not to move!"
"I was terrified, my mind went blank—something happened to them, they opened the back door of the Mercedes and forcibly dragged Young Master Heng out."
"Young Master Heng struggled, and it seems he even kicked one of them, then that person smashed Young Master Heng's head with the butt of a gun—Young Master Heng was dragged onto the van—"
At this point, Li Wenjie's voice trembled with tears: "I didn't dare get out of the car—and I didn't see the license plate clearly because something had dirtied it—"
"Sir Shen, do you think Uncle Ye will blame us?"
He was genuinely terrified. The three of them had encountered kidnappers together. Ye Rongheng was in trouble, but he and Zhou Junming were unharmed. Who knew if Ye Xiaoli would hold a grudge against him?
My father's entire fortune is less than that of any one of Mingda's subsidiaries.
"Mr. Li, the kidnappers are armed and this was premeditated. You have not received professional training, and any rash action could lead to more serious consequences. Therefore, as an ordinary person, you have done nothing wrong and have no need to blame yourself."
Shen Shaofeng's words calmed Li Wenjie down a little.
After a pause, Shen Shaofeng continued, "Approximately how many kidnappers were there? What kind of guns were they carrying? Could you see them clearly?"
"Four, um, I think it was five? It was a mess, I can't remember exactly. That guy was pointing a gun at us. And the one pointing at Xin Ge was kind of like the one Schwarzenegger used in Terminator 2."
"Did the kidnapper speak? What's his accent?"
"They shouted things like 'Don't move, or I'll kill you,' and their accent sounded a bit like the Chaoshan region—"
Did Ye Rongheng shout anything when he was dragged away?
"He seemed to glance in our direction, but the thieves covered his mouth, preventing him from making a sound. His eyes looked terrified—"
Shen Shaofeng questioned Li Wenjie repeatedly about some details until he confirmed that although the other party did not remember some details very clearly, there were basically no contradictions.
"Mr. Li, could you please help me recall if Ye Rongheng has recently had any conflicts with anyone, or encountered any unusual events?"
Li Wenjie was taken aback for a moment, then subconsciously shook his head: "Young Master Heng is a very good person, how could he possibly have conflicts with others?"
"As for anything special—Amin seems to have something on his mind lately. He's talked to Young Master Heng a few times in private. I think I overheard them mentioning 'borrowing money' or something like that once, but I really don't know the specifics."
Shen Shaofeng nodded: "Okay, I understand. Please keep today's events a secret. Also, please call Zhou Junming in for me."
When Zhou Junming entered the study, he was noticeably more nervous than Li Wenjie.
Shen Shaofeng poured him a glass of water and began in the same calm tone: "Mr. Zhou, relax and just tell me what you know. Let's start with your meeting with Ye Rongheng at the Jockey Club."
Zhou Junming took a sip of water to calm himself down, then secretly glanced at Shen Shaofeng before beginning his narration.
The first half of his account was very similar to Li Wenjie's, but Shen Shaofeng quickly noticed the subtle differences.
Compared to Li Wenjie, Zhou Junming spoke much more fluently.
Without even needing to be guided, she could naturally and clearly recount the entire kidnapping of Ye Rongheng from beginning to end.
Shen Shaofeng found it more and more interesting as he listened.
When Zhou Junming said, "The license plate of the kidnappers' van was covered by a dark cloth, it looked like black, and it was covered quite tightly,"
He even added, "It must have been taped on; all four corners were taped up."
Shen Shaofeng stopped writing and stared into his eyes: "You were so nervous at the time, yet you could still see that it was taped on, and that all four corners were flat?"
Zhou Junming's eyes flickered: "I—I was sitting in the passenger seat of A-Jie's car, so I could see more clearly—"
Shen Shaofeng remained noncommittal and continued to press, "You said before that the kidnappers forcibly opened the back door of Ye Rongheng's Mercedes from the outside, right?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
"That's strange. I remember that cars like the Mercedes S600 should have very sturdy door locks."
"What's so strange about it? The inner lock is broken—"
At this point, Zhou Junming's expression suddenly changed!
