Chapter 221

Xia Li thought for a moment, "It's longer than a hundred years."
Zhang Shushu paused for a moment, then looked at Song Che. Song Che didn't know how to explain, so Xia Li explained for him, "A hundred years is... a very, very long time."
Zhang Shushu didn't understand, but she didn't ask any further questions. She just smiled and nodded, "Okay, okay, for a very long time."
Tao Xiang raised her hand from the side, "I like Song Cheol too!"
Xia Li looked at her, "You like it too?"
"Ok!"
"Then you can't like him, he's my husband."
Tao Xiang was taken aback. "What is a husband?"
Xia Li thought for a moment, "It's... someone I'll spend my whole life with."
After Xia Li finished speaking, she seemed to have completed an important task. She relaxed, took a step back, and leaned against Song Che.
Song Che helped her up. "Did you faint?"
Xia Li shook her head, "I'm not dizzy, just a little sleepy."
Zhang Shushu said, "Then get some rest, we still have fun tomorrow."
Xia Li nodded, "Okay. Goodnight, Auntie. Goodnight, Uncle. Goodnight, Tao Xiang."
After she finished speaking, she pulled Song Che towards the room, her steps steady, not at all like someone who was drunk.
Back in her room, Xia Li sat on the bed and began to take off her shoes. The shoelaces were tied in a slipknot by Song Che; she untied them after a couple of tries, arranged the shoes neatly, and placed them beside the bed. Then she lay down, pulled the blanket up to her chest, and stared at the ceiling.
"Song Che".
"Here it is." Song Che took off his shoes as well. "What's wrong?"
What I just said is true.
"I know."
“Every single word is true.”
"I know."
Xia Li closed her eyes. After a while, she opened them again, "You haven't said goodnight yet."
"Good night."
"Mmm." She closed her eyes, and this time she didn't open them again. Her breathing gradually became steady, and she fell asleep.
Song Che sat on the edge of the bed and looked at her.
Her silver hair was spread out on the pillow, illuminated by the bedside lamp, the long strands slightly disheveled and mingling with the light. Her face was flushed, her lips were red, and her brows were furrowed; she was having a dream.
He reached out and tucked her hair behind her ear. Xia Li stirred slightly, nuzzling against his palm, but once she was firmly in his hand, she stopped moving.
Xia Li was indeed a bit slow on the uptake. Not wanting to put herself in a difficult position, she came up with the silly idea of drinking alcohol.
As it turned out, she was a quick drinker and got drunk very easily. Before she could even start acting crazy, she collapsed onto the bed.
But Xia Li clung to Song Che's arm and wouldn't let go.
So be it,
Song Che dimmed the bedside lamp a little and lay down himself. He pulled the blanket over both of them; Xia Li's side was full, while his side was flat.
He turned to look at her.
Her face was flushed, and she looked more well-behaved when she was asleep than when she was awake. She didn't argue with people, didn't hit anyone on the head, and didn't buy alcohol to hide in the closet.
He watched for a while longer before preparing to turn off the light.
Just as he reached out, his waist suddenly tightened. Xia Li's hand had somehow reached out and was wrapped tightly around his waist.
Song Che paused for a moment, then looked down.
Her eyes were closed, and her breathing was the same as when she was asleep, but the corner of her mouth... seemed to have moved slightly?
"You're not asleep?"
Xia Li didn't answer, her breathing remained the same, soft and gentle. But her cheeks seemed even pinker.
Song Che stared at her for a few seconds, then reached out and pinched her nose. Xia Li's breathing became erratic, but she didn't open her eyes or flinch. She just let him pinch her nose, her mouth slightly open, and began to breathe through her mouth.
Song Che let go of her hand. "You were pretending to be asleep, weren't you?"
Xia Li didn't speak, but she tightened her grip on his waist.
"Xia Li."
no response.
"I know you're not asleep. Aren't you afraid I'll take advantage of you? Consider this me getting the better deal."
Damn it, why do you look like you're the one who'll get the better deal?!
Still no response.
Song Che sighed and tried to pry her hands off, but couldn't. Her grip suddenly became incredibly strong; it was strong enough when she tapped his head, but now that she was around his waist, she was using even more force.
He tried to pry it open a couple of times but gave up, then lay flat and stared at the ceiling.
Xia Li's arms were still around his waist, her face buried against his shoulder, her breath hot and ticklish on his neck. Song Che endured for a moment, then couldn't help but shrink back slightly. Xia Li leaned forward a little, her face even closer, her lips almost touching his neck.
"Are you drunk or not?" he asked.
Xia Li's eyelashes brushed against his neck; he could feel it clearly at that distance.
Song Che shrank his neck again, this time his shoulder bumped against Xia Li's nose. Xia Li's breath hitched, then she sneezed slightly, the sneeze landing on his neck.
Song Che froze, completely stunned by her outburst.
Xia Li still didn't open her eyes.
Song Che understood. "You were just faking it."
Xia Li's eyelashes trembled.
"You're not drunk at all."
Xia Li narrowed her eyes slightly.
Song Che turned to face her.
The two were very close, their noses almost touching. Xia Li had her eyes closed, but she was clearly not asleep.
Song Che looked at her eyelashes, her nose, and her soft lips. The smell of alcohol emanated from her breath, mixed with the scent of shampoo in her hair, sweet like an opened bottle of peach sparkling wine.
"Were those things you just said also an act?"
Xia Li opened one eye, glanced at him, then closed it again. "It's not an act."
"What about the wine?"
"I drank it, but I'm not drunk."
"Why are you blushing if you're not drunk?"
Xia Li thought for a moment, "It's hot."
"You were a few beats slow in your speech."
"Intentional."
"You're saying I have two heads."
“That’s real.” Xia Li opened her eyes and looked at him. “You really did have two heads just now.”
Song Che looked at her. She looked at him.
The two stared at each other for a few seconds before Xia Li looked away, burying her face in the pillow and saying in a muffled voice, "Don't look at me."
"why?"
"I'm shy."
Song Che paused for a moment, then laughed. "You weren't shy when you hugged my mom just now."
"That's your aunt."
"You're not shy when you call me 'husband'."
Xia Li peeked half her face out from under the pillow, her ears bright red. "That was... taught to me by that bad woman."
"A bad woman teaches you to call someone 'husband'?"
"Mmm." Xia Li buried her face back again. "She said you'd be happy to hear that."
Song Che thought about it, and he was indeed happy. Although he was startled at the time, he lay in bed tossing and turning for a long time afterward, and his ears would get hot every time he thought of those two words.
He reached out and ruffled Xia Li's hair.
“You can shout whenever you want,” he said.
Xia Li lifted her head from under the pillow and looked at him. "You're not going to scold me anymore?"
When did I insult you?
You called me a pervert last night.
Song Che was momentarily speechless. "That wasn't an insult, that was... stating the facts."
Xia Li stared at him for two seconds, then suddenly reached out and tapped his arm. "You're the pervert."
"Look, you're knocking again."
Shouldn't you have been knocked on?
Where should I have been hit?
Xia Li thought for a moment, "You just said you were stating the facts. It's true that you said I'm a pervert, so it's also true that I hit you."
Song Che was confused by her logic. He opened his mouth, but didn't know what to say.
Xia Li looked at his expression, and the corners of her mouth turned up. She was laughing, a triumphant laugh, like a cat that had stolen a fish.
Looking at her smile, Song Che suddenly didn't feel confused anymore.
He reached out and cupped her face in his hands. Xia Li's smile was distorted by his cupping of her hands; her lips pouted, like a silly goldfish.
