Chapter 25

Ancestor Worship and God Worship

Just as Zhang Wei had expected.

Although slaying the possessing spirit triggered the ancestral master's blessing, it only strengthened the spirit's vitality before disappearing.

Not to mention a highly restrictive technique like the True Yang Arrow, there isn't even a complete blessing pattern.

Although slaying the demon didn't take much of his effort, the result of expending a True Yang Arrow was somewhat disappointing!

"Dog Egg, what's wrong with me?"

After lying limp on the ground for several minutes, Tang Qin slowly regained his senses. Feeling the stench mixed with the blood on his face, he weakly asked a question.

"It's nothing, I was just possessed by a wandering ghost for a while. Uncle Wang will take a look at me when he gets back."

"Can you still walk? If not, I'll carry you on my back?"

"It'll work, it's not far anyway!"

Out of consideration for his pride as an adult, the cousin declined Zhang Wei's offer and stood up on his own.

After taking a couple of steps, seeing that although his legs were weak and he was still able to keep going, I shook my head and reached out to help him.

Seeing this, the cousin did not refuse, but an unnatural blush appeared on his pale face.

The two, one big and one small, helped each other as they trudged towards the village, their steps uneven.

......

Although the road was not far, in order to prevent a repeat of his previous carelessness, Zhang Wei simply released all his evil energy this time, leaving only a small part to surround the two of them for protection, while the rest turned into a scarlet mist that swept across the dirt road beneath their feet and searched the hillsides on both sides.

He originally didn't want to bother with these wandering ghosts. After all, they were hard to catch as they drifted around, and more importantly, they couldn't transform into vengeful spirits or evil ghosts. They weren't considered important by the patriarch, so there was no point in killing them.

But since they insist on seeking thrills, let's go all the way!

Wherever the evil energy passed, wherever there was a mound, not in clusters, that might be a grave, the mimicking evil energy would shove a handful into the earth.

While not to the point of exterminating them all, they did sweep away all the evil spirits inside the tomb and, incidentally, greet the tomb's owner.

Whether this behavior is polite or not is none of his business!

......

It's four o'clock in the morning.

As sunrise approached, the moonlight dimmed, and the land of Chizhen grew increasingly dark. The undulating mountains and forests resembled demonic caves, capable of touching the deepest fears in one's heart with just a glance. Yet, in this pitch-black dawn, a group of people lit torches and, sweating profusely, walked along the country dirt road, groaning and groaning.

After a whole night of commotion, it wasn't until dawn that, with the help of the villagers and a donkey cart, they finally managed to bring the pig king back to the village for butchering.

The process was not without its challenges.

When they arrived at their destination, the mule that had been pulling the cart refused to come any closer, even as the owner's whip left afterimages. The mule stubbornly resisted with its hooves.

Although the Pig King is dead, as a spirit, his predatory aura still keeps even a mule, a CS-type monster, away.

With no other option, everyone untied the mules and used manpower to push the mule cart carrying the pig king back to the village.

Although the villagers were also afraid, they knew better than the mules that the wild boar king was dead. A living monster was terrifying, but a dead one was just a lump of meat, a lump of fat enough to feed the whole village!

Don't talk about wild boar meat being smelly. In this day and age, oil and fat are precious things, not only in villages but also in big cities!

It's not uncommon for bizarre things to happen over a little bit of meat, let alone something this big, weighing over a thousand pounds including skin and fur.

fear?

Perhaps that's how they felt when they first saw the wild boar king, but once they got their hands on it, their wriggling stomachs made them forget their instinctive fear of such a giant creature.

Now they're thinking that once the wild boar king is pushed back to the village, according to rural customs, those who helped out, like them, will eventually receive some benefits.

One or two ounces is not too little, and half a catty or eight ounces is not too much!

Thinking this way, pushing the cart suddenly became much easier!

Of course, pushing the cart had nothing to do with Zhang Wei.

Although rural children start working in the fields early, they are the ones who do the hardest work, unless their parents are no longer alive.

Moreover, with wandering ghosts and mountain spirits lurking around that night, Zhang Wei had to conserve his energy to help Blind Wang protect everyone on their way back to the village.

Bored out of his mind, Zhang Wei retraced his steps and roamed the mountains on both sides of the hillside.

Not only did the evil aura transformed by the Yazi magic increase significantly, but it also dealt with several wild wolves that had followed it by smell, as well as more than a dozen wild boars of various sizes that were staring down from the mountaintop.

Several more wolves and wild boars appeared, and the previously idle manpower now came in handy.

Thus, despite returning laden with their spoils, the group walked a journey that normally takes an hour, but it took them almost until dawn!

Back in the village, everyone was busy boiling water, plucking feathers, cooking, and preparing other dishes to accompany the sacrificial rites.

Fortunately, with the help of the village's elderly and women and children, the speed was much faster.

It was almost noon.

In front of the ancestral hall, nearly two hundred members of the Liu family, from the two elders of the old village chief's generation to Zhang Wei's nephews and nieces and younger generations, knelt in rows before the offering table on the lower right side.

Zhang Wei stood alone under the offering table on the left.

After a simple cooking process with medicinal herbs, potato noodles, and other ingredients, a stew and several cold dishes were prepared. This offering, even more luxurious than yesterday's grand ceremony, was then carried to the Kitchen God's altar.

The wafting aroma of food tempted the children's appetites.

Under the watchful eyes of the villagers, Zhang Wei, who was at the very front, slowly inserted three lit incense sticks into the incense burner.

Kneel down and kowtow.

hum!

From a perspective that is difficult for ordinary people to notice, the blurry Kitchen God's scroll radiates a magnificent golden-red light, and wisps of smoke transform into a broken canopy that gently rotates three feet above Zhang Wei's head.

Visibly, a table of five large dishes gradually turned into grayish-black residue within the time it takes for an incense stick to burn.

Only a few slices of meat remained on the platter made of tongue and offal.

With the return of the canopy, the villagers, who were shocked by the offerings turning to ashes, were surprised to find that the original simple image of the Kitchen God had been replaced by a complete image. Not only was it outlined in red ink, but some parts were also lightly gilded, which shone with a warm glow in the sunlight.

As the villagers stood there, stunned and awestruck by the miracle, familiar subtitles appeared before Zhang Wei's eyes:

A slightly spiritually imbued image of the Kitchen God.

[Effect: Omitted]

Current remaining offering effect: Cold dish platter (meat)

The leftovers from the Kitchen God's consumption of qi (vital energy) are said to strengthen the body and bones.

The description of the offerings was so simple that it was almost non-existent, but the effect left Zhang Wei somewhat astonished.
