Chapter 12
is amazing!
Zhao Jinzhong rushed to the hospital.
I knocked on the ward door with a heavy heart.
Who is it?
Song Mingyu opened the door and saw Zhao Jinzhong standing there. Her face immediately turned ugly. "What are you doing here? Get out. Don't pretend to be kind."
He turned to close the door with a stern face.
Zhao Jinzhong, with a thick skin, used his shoulder to block the door and quickly explained, "Mingyu, my mom went out on her bike this morning. I thought she was going to the hospital to take care of Auntie, so I went to work. I just got home from get off work and found that my mom wasn't here, so I rushed over in a hurry."
Song Mingyu had been holding in her anger all day, and seeing Zhao Jinzhong made her furious.
She shoved him angrily, "How dare you say that? What did you promise me when my mother was hospitalized? You said my whole family wouldn't have to worry about her, that your mother would take good care of her, and that you'd show my parents your family's sincerity. Is this your family's sincerity?"
"I was in a rush to get to work this morning, and I waited and waited for your mom, but she didn't come to relieve me. When my mom asked, I didn't know what to tell her. What does your mom mean? If she doesn't want to come, she can just say so. Nobody begged her to come. What kind of nonsense is it for her to quit halfway through taking care of things!"
Zhao Jinzhong stared intently at Song Mingyu.
Mingyu looks stunning today. She's wearing a wide red headband, her curly hair cascading down her back, a white polka-dot top, and a bright red skirt. She's even more beautiful than a blooming flower.
Even when she's angry, she's still so beautiful.
Her pretty face was frosty, making it impossible to look away.
Song Mingyu blushed deeply under that direct gaze, stamped her foot, and shoved Zhao Jinzhong, "Are you even listening to me?!"
"I've listened to it."
Zhao Jinzhong quickly came to his senses and explained, "Mingyu, don't be angry. Something happened at my dad's factory today, and my mom went to the steel mill to look for him, so she couldn't come."
He then recounted what had happened at the steel mill.
To avoid upsetting Song Mingyu, they deliberately exaggerated the situation.
Song Mingyu persisted, "If she couldn't have sent someone to the hospital to tell me, could she? I waited at the hospital all day like an idiot. I didn't even take time off from work at the soy sauce factory, and now I've lost all my bonus this month!"
"I'll fix it, I'll fix it."
Zhao Jinzhong pulled a ten-yuan note from his pocket and stuffed it into Song Mingyu's hand. Song Mingyu's expression softened when she saw the money.
Zhao Jinzhong picked up a thermos, unscrewed the lid, and said with a flattering look, "Have you and Auntie eaten yet? I just bought a bowl of bone broth from a restaurant near the hospital. They say you are what you eat to nourish yourself, so this is perfect for Auntie."
Then, she eagerly picked up the net bag in her other hand, saying, "I even bought you your favorite canned food and egg rolls, as well as sponge cake and peach shortbread."
Zhao Jinzhong is willing to spend money.
Both hands were full.
But Song Mingyu got even angrier when she saw the big bone in the thermos. The bone was indeed a big bone, and the meat on it had been picked off cleaner than if a dog had gnawed on it.
If you throw it on the ground to feed the dog, the dog won't even have a chance to bite.
Slapping his hand away, Song Mingyu said irritably, "What are you eating? I'm already full from arguing with my mom."
She glared at Zhao Jinzhong and said, "Don't think I'll forgive you just because you bought me some things. Let me tell you, my mother is extremely unhappy right now. She has a lot of opinions about your mother and your whole family. If she doesn't agree to our marriage, I won't marry you."
"I'll go in and apologize to Auntie."
"Don't go in. My mom's already angry, and seeing you will only make her angrier."
Zhao Jinzhong refused to leave.
He begged and pleaded with Song Mingyu to say nice things.
"Mingyu." Li Shufen, who was in the ward, heard the noise and called out, "Is that Jinzhong? Let him in, Mom has something to say to him."
"Why!"
Song Mingyu responded and turned to warn Zhao Jinzhong, "My mother is unhappy. You have to listen to whatever she says, otherwise we can't be together anymore."
"I'll listen, I'll definitely listen."
Zhao Jinzhong quickly carried his things into the house.
Li Shufen was in a three-person ward. Her ward was closest to the door. The ward was not big to begin with, and with three patients and their accompanying family members, there was almost no room to move around.
For privacy, Song Mingyu drew the bed curtains, making the space feel even smaller.
Zhao Jinzhong entered the house somewhat awkwardly, saying, "Hello, Auntie."
With her leg in a cast, Song's mother leaned against the bed. Her eyes first swept over Zhao Jinzhong's hands, and seeing the full load of things in them, her expression improved slightly. "Jinzhong's here? Mingyu, go get a stool."
"I'll carry it myself, I'll carry it myself. Mingyu's hands aren't suited for this kind of rough work."
Zhao Jinzhong put the thermos and net bag on the bedside table and went to get a stool from the wall. Song Mingyu rolled her eyes but didn't try to take it from him.
Li Shufen didn't smile much.
Zhao Jinzhong's heart was pounding. He didn't even dare to sit properly, his hands on his knees, as nervous as a primary school student. "Auntie, I'm so sorry about today. My mom was supposed to come, but something happened at my dad's factory, so she went to find him and couldn't come."
Li Shufen said sarcastically, "Your mother was gone for a whole day? She must have been quite busy."
It's over! It's over!
She really blamed her mother.
Zhao Jinzhong quickly apologized, "Auntie, I'm so sorry. My mom must have been so frightened by what happened at my dad's factory that she forgot..."
Li Shufen said with a straight face, "Jinzhong, it's not that I necessarily want your mother to serve me. It's just that I feel you've been with Mingyu for over a year, and I want to test whether your family values Mingyu enough."
"Mingyu was raised with love and care by her father and me. In the past, when educated youth were sent to the countryside, only one child could be left in the family. Her father and I would rather send our son to the countryside than let her suffer in the countryside."
"As parents, we only hope that our children will have a good life. To be honest, with your mother's current attitude, I'm not comfortable letting Mingyu marry into your family."
Zhao Jinzhong clutched his pants, his face turning pale. "Auntie, what happened today was truly an accident. I genuinely love Mingyu and want to marry her and live a good life with her."
"I know how much you and Uncle value Mingyu. I promise you, once Mingyu is married, I will never let her suffer the slightest grievance."
Look how nervous he is.
Li Shufen felt a little better. "Jinzhong, your family has too many brothers and sisters, and the population is complicated. With more people, there are more things to do at home. Your uncle and I actually have some concerns."
"If it weren't for your sincerity towards Mingyu, I wouldn't have agreed to Mingyu dating you."
He could sense Li Shufen's dissatisfaction.
Zhao Jinzhong could no longer sit still. "Auntie, I know I'm out of my league with Mingyu. I assure you, although I may not be the best among Mingyu's suitors, I am definitely the best for her."
"I will cherish her just like you and Uncle do, and hold her in the palm of my hand for the rest of my life."
Without caring that they were in a hospital room, she bent her knees and knelt down before her. "Auntie, I can't live without Mingyu. I beg you, please don't separate me from Mingyu!"
