Chapter 25

Dr. Akihabara? Prototype Code: Polygon

"The department is responsible for the cybersecurity of the entire Kanto region, covering all areas including the Pokémon Drop-off system."

In each room along both sides of the corridor, many people were busy operating a large number of screens.

Arriving at the far end of the room, which was quite spacious, several people stood with their backs to the door, staring at the screen in front of them.

"And he's the one in charge here."

Adu's voice caught the attention of one of the bespectacled men, who was about forty years old. He turned around and stood up, his head gleaming with a bald head, like a mischievous bomb.

"Dr. Akihabara?"

The three people spoke in unison.

As Watari was introducing the students, Professor Oak and Natsuno recognized each other's faces, their expressions and tones showing great surprise.

It goes without saying that Oki knew him, but Natsuno had looked up information after returning home that day and thus gained the memory.

But both of them remembered Dr. Akihabara's past appearance: a head of thick black hair, completely different from the bald, mischievous Rai-dan he is now, so they were naturally extremely surprised.

Akihabara walked over quickly and took Professor Oak's hand.

"Professor Oak, it's been a long time. Ah, I mean, meeting in person. I've been following your updates online every day."

He then looked at Natsuno and said with great admiration, "Natsuno, right? You're even more handsome in person than online. You're a promising young man. And I didn't expect you to actually know me. I'm so glad."

The group went to the next room and sat down, drinking tea and listening to Oki and Akihabara reminisce.

"Akihabara, how are you doing these days?"

"It was very enjoyable. The entire cybersecurity system of the Kanto Alliance was built under my leadership, allowing me to fully utilize my strengths."

"The cybersecurity departments in other regions are also managed by my various apprentices. We protect people from the shadows and can also make contributions."

"Even though what happened back then, the league still respects me a lot. Although it's unknown to others, it allows me to get things done quietly, which I really appreciate."

Seeing that Akihabara's face was beaming with joy, and that he didn't seem to be faking it, Oki and Natsuno felt a little relieved.

Xia Ye suddenly realized: So he's a coding genius. No wonder his head is so shiny, it's a buff.

My mind is working now, I'm even more powerful!

Natsuno, holding Madoka, explained the purpose of their visit.

Dr. Akihabara inquired about the requirements in detail, while taking out his tablet to record the key points.

She also complained that when Adu came last time, he didn't give a clear answer, and when she sent him a message, he didn't remember to reply, so she didn't know how things were going.

A-Du seemed to have long been used to the other party's straightforward personality, and nodded in apology.

"Infiltrating a secret base might involve comprehensive eavesdropping, including information isolation firewalls. Trying to pass on a message? That would be very difficult."

"However, is this secret base you're talking about located in Changqing City? Or in Yuhong City?"

"I had noticed some anomalies in the network information transmission in these two cities before, but I couldn't find a pattern."

Awatari's eyes lit up, and he urged Akihabara to pay close attention to the anomalies and try to find the root cause.

The other party took note of Awatari's words and began to think about the request Natsuno made.

No one else disturbed them; they simply drank their tea quietly.

A dozen minutes later, Akihabara took a deep breath, stood up, and gestured for everyone to follow him.

The group followed them to a private office in Akihabara, where the office quietly locked the door.

Akihabara took a laptop out of the drawer, his expression very serious.

Seeing his seriousness, the three of them sat quietly in their chairs and waited, not daring to disturb him.

After a few quick movements, Akihabara looked up at the three and asked the question that countless people had asked: "Do you believe that humans can create Pokémon?"

The other three reacted differently.

A-Du shook his head directly. Oki instinctively wanted to shake his head too, but then stopped, turned to look at Natsuno, and remained silent.

Without hesitation, Natsuno replied, "Yes." He already knew this, and there was even the possibility of participating in the Mewtwo Project: "Yes."

Akihabara nodded: "I understand the genetics theory now. Pokémon is indeed full of more possibilities."

He then pushed up his glasses, the lenses reflecting a captivating light.

"But if my question were, 'If it were a non-genetic method, do you think humans could create Pokémon?'"

The other three stared at Xia Ye, who couldn't help but swallow hard.

His face remained calm, but his heart was in turmoil!

No wonder I always feel like I'm missing several Pokémon when I check my Pokédex for a level.

Aside from fossil Pokémon that never appeared due to technological limitations, and Mewtwo.

There's one more thing missing, one that I overlooked: Virtual Pokémon!

Natsuno didn't dare reveal her true thoughts, and could only nod slightly: "I think so."

Professor Oak looked at Natsuno strangely after hearing this. In his opinion, a researcher as meticulous as him would not give such a vague description.

Akihabara tapped a few keys on the keyboard and showed the computer screen to the other three.

His hand gestures were powerful, and his voice was full of passion, as if he were introducing the world's greatest work.

"In the world of code, 0s and 1s are interspersed and can form everything."

"One day, I had a sudden thought: what if I used code to create a Pokémon?"

"Unfortunately, I tried many times, but I couldn't make any breakthrough."

As Akihabara narrates, lines of code appear on the screen, extending indefinitely.

"One night, I was trying something new in my office, but I kept failing, and before I knew it, I was asleep."

"I dreamed of lines of code I had never seen before, which seemed to be full of life."

"After waking up, I quickly recalled and wrote it into the computer, and at the last moment of running it, I got it."

The other three stared intently at the screen. The code at the very top transformed into a line, or perhaps a paintbrush, which converged again in the center of the screen, as if depicting new possibilities.

One minute later, a brand new virtual image in the shape of a duck with sharp edges appeared on the screen.

Its head and body are red, but its chest, mouth, tail, and hands (or perhaps feet?) on both sides are light blue, with white pupils and black irises that are constantly darting around.

Its eyes seemed to be able to see beyond the screen, turning left and right as it looked at Natsuno and the other two.

"hiss..."

The three of them gasped in unison, having made yet another contribution to global warming.

Akihabara's explanation didn't stop; his eyes were filled with fervor.

"This little guy is all angular, so I call him a polygonal beast. Isn't that fitting?"

"The moment the little guy was born, I could tell that it was different from others. It really had its own thoughts, rather than being a mechanical code program."

Natsuno raised his hand and waved to the screen.

The Porygon on the screen also raised its left limb, mimicking Natsuno's movements by swaying it up and down, its eyes turning into trapezoidal lines, as if it were laughing.

Professor Oak and Lance's voices trembled slightly: "So, you succeeded?"

Akihabara's movements suddenly relaxed, and he seemed to slump in the chair, his voice becoming languid.

"No, it failed."

"what?"
