Chapter 23

Without Reservation

Meanwhile, Mo Yu's phone rang as she arrived in the city from the airport.

Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a call from my dad, Mo Dahai.

"Feed... Dad."

"Son, I heard you went out of town to haul goods a few days ago. Are you back yet?"

"Just got back, just arrived in the city."

Are you coming home for dinner tonight?

"Yes... I'll be back in a bit."

"Okay... I'll have your mom cook some extra rice for you."

"OK."

As soon as Mo Yu hung up the phone, the original senior high school class group suddenly became lively.

It turned out that class monitor Shen Yonggang was tagging everyone: Classmates, don't forget the class gathering tonight... Lotus Pond Moonlight, third floor, room 306, I hope everyone can come.

In no time, the class group chat was buzzing with notifications, all of them responding.

Shen Yonggang is still the same as ever, always the most enthusiastic about organizing these kinds of gatherings. He probably wants to solidify his vague authority as class monitor one last time before the start of the university semester.

Then, his deskmate Yu Xueying sent him a message: "Old Mo... are you coming to the party tonight?"

Mo Yu quickly replied: "What would I go there for? To watch Shen Yonggang show off?"

"I heard you're going to karaoke after dinner tonight, are you really not going?"

"I'm not going. I just got back from Beijing. I just got off the plane and I'm a little tired. I want to go to bed early tonight."

"Damn... you actually went to the capital? Really? Tell me honestly, what are you going to the capital for?"

"Would you believe me if I said I went to pick up girls?"

"I don't believe you, you're a really bad guy."

"Don't believe me if you want."

"If you don't want to go, that's fine. I'll put in a good word for you later."

After putting away her phone, Mo Yu took the subway to the station closest to Bailong Village. By then, it was already getting dark.

He checked the secluded grove outside Bailong Village and, after confirming that no one was around, released the Liberation Truck from his spatial storage and drove it to the basketball court at the east end of the village.

After parking the car, Mo Yu, carrying some things she had bought in Beijing, found her way to her aunt's house.

Before he could knock a second time, the security door was yanked open from the inside with a creak.

"Brother...you're finally back! I saw you just now from the window!"

The person who opened the door was my cousin Huang Fangguang. This kid seemed to have grown taller since last month. His school uniform, which was originally a good fit, looked a bit cramped on him. His eyes were full of excitement, and he made a move to take the bag from Mo Yu's hand.

"Go away... What are you doing, robbing me?" Mo Yu slapped his hand away and stepped through the door.

Just as one foot went in, a small figure with a high ponytail popped out from under the radiant arm and suddenly jumped in front of Mo Yu.

"Brother, brother, where's my gift? You must have brought back some delicious food from the capital, right?"

The boy was Huang Xiaoyu, the daughter of her uncle. At the age of fifteen, she was at the age where she loved to look pretty and had a sweet tooth. She looked up at Mo Yu with her big, chubby face and her big eyes blinking. She had a flattering smile on her face.

Mo Yu chuckled, waving a bag of crispy candy and several exquisite cultural and creative pendants in her hand, "You won't be left out."

"Bangguang, you're almost a senior in high school, and you still have the mind to stare out the window? Xiaoyu, if you keep jumping around like that, your auntie will come out and pull your ear later."

Aunt's voice came from the kitchen, accompanied by the sizzling sound of hot oil hitting the pan: "Is that Xiaoyu back? Come in and sit down, make a light, and pour some water for your brother! Don't just stand there like a wooden post."

As soon as he put the bag of snacks and Palace Museum cultural and creative pendants he brought back from Beijing on the table, Fang Guang and Xiao Yu surrounded him almost at the same time.

"Brother, this cat keychain is mine, thanks!" Xiaoyu moved quickly, grabbing a blue one and waving it at her backpack. Fangguang, on the other hand, grinned sheepishly as he opened a box of shortbread and crunched away.

Looking at her two carefree cousins, Mo Yu sighed helplessly. No wonder her uncle and aunt shook their heads whenever they mentioned her children.

He took the car keys out of his pocket and handed them to his aunt, who was carrying dishes out of the kitchen.

"Auntie, here are the car keys back. I owe this trip to Beijing to this car; I filled up the tank and even washed it on the way."

Auntie wiped the water off her hands, took the keys, and complained, "You silly child, we're all family, why bother with all this? Don't leave, the food's already in the pot, eat here before you go back."

Mo Yu waved her hand with a smile and walked towards the door. "It really won't work. My dad just called and urged me to come back. If I don't go back soon, my mom will probably come out looking for me with a pot and a chopstick. In a couple of days, I'll invite you and my uncle to my house for a meal."

"Alright!"

His aunt didn't press him, gave him a few words of advice, and then sent him home.

When Mo Yu returned home and opened the door, a familiar scent, carrying a faint smell of cooking oil and the fresh fragrance of dish soap, wafted towards her.

Mom Huang Xiaolan was busy in the kitchen wearing an apron, while Dad Mo Dahai was sitting on the sofa watching the news.

"Dad, Mom, I'm home."

Mo Yu placed the heavy bag next to the teapot.

My dad glanced at the package and noticed the red Moutai packaging and the whole carton of Zhonghua cigarettes. His brow furrowed at first, then relaxed, and he muttered, "You kid, it's not easy to earn a few bucks driving long distances. Why buy these flashy but impractical things?"

Huang Xiaolan poked her head out of the kitchen and took the skincare set that Mo Yu handed her. Although she said, "That's right, it's good to save it up for getting married," her eyes, which were squinting with laughter, betrayed her true feelings.

During the meal, Mo Dahai and Huang Xiaolan asked about the driving experience over the past few days. After hearing Mo Yu's seemingly relaxed answer, Huang Xiaolan said worriedly, "Xiaoyu... Mom has thought about it, and the risk of driving is still too great. Why don't we stop for now?"

Mo Dahai frowned: "The child has grown up and has his own ideas. As parents, we shouldn't interfere too much."

"Bullshit! Xiaoyu is my son, can't I even discipline him? On the contrary, you're always lounging at home, eating and doing nothing, just making a little money from a few regular customers in the village. Aren't you ashamed?"

"If you're so capable, why don't you rent a storefront in the city and open a massage parlor? Your income should increase several times over, right?"

"I……"

Mo Dahai was speechless for a moment.

Looking at this familiar scene, Mo Yu was momentarily lost in thought.

In his previous life, both of his parents were middle school teachers, and both had gentle personalities.

In this life, one of them is a massage therapist and the other is a rural housewife. Their personalities are similar, and the only thing that remains unchanged is the affection between husband and wife and their love for each other, which is unconditional.
