Chapter 282
New Life
Chapter 282 New Life (3)
"video tape?"
Jiang Jing was somewhat surprised. Before they came, they had discussed the possible situations that might occur at the platform, and none of them expected that the key item for the first mission would be a videotape.
However, they didn't expect to come up with too many accurate results, and they had already made contingency plans for the current situation.
Originally, it would have required spending money to test the waters, but now...
Jiang Jing's gaze swept subtly across the faces of the newcomers who were clearly at a loss after these tasks were introduced.
"401."
The fortune teller smiled and looked at Lu Jinzhao with a "See, I predicted it accurately" look. At the same time, he was thinking: Could the sudden move out of the tenants in room 401 in reality be because something happened in room 401 at the Death Platform, thus affecting the real world?
“It looks exactly like the real world here,” Lu Jinzhao was more concerned about this point.
She has a great memory; even if she has only been to a neighborhood once, she can remember most of the details. She started comparing them as soon as she got off the bus and found that most of them matched up.
Except for the lack of people, this place is very similar to the neighborhoods they had visited.
The only differences are fallen leaves, the arrangement of items on the street, and clothes drying in the sun, but overall they are almost identical.
This discovery weighed heavily on Lu Jinzhao's mind; the platform's striking resemblance to reality was hardly a good thing.
She looked at the fortune teller. Although he was smiling, his eyes were not relaxed. She guessed that he had noticed this as well.
"Let's go inside first."
Ning Jianwei glanced at the uneasy expressions on the faces of the new recruits and added casually, "Hopefully, this mission won't be life-threatening right from the start."
As soon as she finished speaking, it was visible to the naked eye that some of the newcomers looked even more uneasy.
Was she doing it on purpose?
Sheepskin raised a question.
I have a feeling she said that on purpose; the newcomers looked terrified.
Why would she scare them?
Lu Jinzhao closed his eyes speechlessly, unsure whether to say that Yangpi had become smarter and could sense Ning Jianwei's malicious smile, or that it was still incredibly stupid and couldn't see through such obvious manipulation.
By deliberately scaring the newcomers, she was trying to get some timid people to avoid the mission so she could observe the consequences of not doing it and not watching the videotape.
She had no intention of communicating with the sheepskin and followed Lin Lin into the residential area.
The layout of the community was still largely the same as she remembered, the biggest difference being that there were no residents in the community within the platform.
Not a single one.
So who lives in room 401?
Who should they borrow the videotape from?
Upon entering the residential area, most of the building doors were closed, except for one building which was open. That building was, without a doubt, the one that Lu Jinzhao and the fortune teller had visited.
"It seems that this is the mission objective. We don't need to try every single 401."
Jiang Jing breathed a sigh of relief. Just now she was worried about which 401 this was, but considering that the mission time limit was only two hours and that she also had to watch a videotape of uncertain length, this 401 couldn't possibly be well hidden.
After all, this is only the first task.
With over a dozen people, it was impossible for them to enter the building at the same time, so they had to be divided into groups. The regular passengers from Ning'an City clearly didn't intend to help these newcomers, and Lu Jinzhao's "kindness" had also been exhausted. However, Ning Jianwei casually pointed to someone and asked if she wanted to come with her.
The person who was tagged seemed to have been hit by a big prize, and cautiously yet excitedly agreed.
Beside her, another girl who looked to be still in high school frowned warily, sensing that Ning Jianwei's invitation was a bit strange.
She wanted to offer a suggestion, but seeing the delighted look on the face of this "companion" she had only spoken a few words to, she thought for a moment and decided not to say anything.
The elderly passengers from Anning City had no intention of being the first to go upstairs. They were too vigilant and too exhausted, with no energy left to "take a gamble." They were only thinking about how to live a more stable life.
So Ning Jianwei, along with a newcomer and Jiang Jing, became the first group of people to go upstairs.
The fortune teller, Lu Jinzhao, and Lin Lin followed behind them, walking together towards room 401.
Six people would be a bit crowded, but there would be enough room to stand.
The stairwell was even darker than it actually was. The concrete stairs were inexplicably slippery, and the walls smelled faintly of mildew. It was as if this was a rotting world, and the devastation inside was gradually spreading through the walls.
Lin Lin was at the very back of the line. She hadn't said a word since entering the platform. Lu Jinzhao was a step behind, letting the fortune teller walk ahead. She stood next to Lin Lin without saying a word.
Ning Jianwei led her people to the door of 401 first, while Lu Jinzhao and the others stopped on the stairs.
—bang bang bang
A dull knock sounded at the door. Ning Jianwei wasn't about to let the newcomer knock on the door. She just looked at the doorway to make sure there was nothing else outside before knocking.
After the knocking, there was silence at first, but soon, movement came from inside the not-so-soundproof door.
There was someone moving around, and I could hear them approaching the door.
- squeak
The iron gate of room 401 was opened a crack.
A faint light came from inside the door, followed by a deep, slightly cold, and strangely formal female voice: "What is it?"
Standing at the front, Ning Jianwei's gaze fell on the woman's figure behind the crack in the door. Perhaps because the light was too blurry, she couldn't see the woman's face clearly, but when the woman's voice came out, the hairs on her arms instantly stood up instinctively, as if she had heard some dangerous sound.
She stepped back slightly and asked, "Could we borrow today's videotape to watch?"
She had no idea what the videotape was, so that was the only way she could ask.
Ning Jianwei remained calm and composed, while the newcomer who had been closely following her since entering the building was starting to lose her composure.
Ever since the door to room 401 was opened, Shu Yuan felt as if she had been exposed to some kind of danger. She didn't know what was wrong with her, but from the moment she saw the woman, her heart started pounding and her body seemed to have lost control, freezing in place.
She could feel herself sweating, breaking out in a cold sweat.
Her joints seemed rusty, and her eyes, as if out of control, were fixed on the woman through the crack in the door, as if something terrifying would happen if she looked away for even a second. So she had to keep a close eye on the woman to make sure she was always within her sight.
“Okay,” the woman replied, and turned to walk into the room.
Shu Yuan breathed a sigh of relief. Only when she could no longer see the woman did she realize that she felt weak all over, as if she had exerted too much force.
"It seems this videotape is easy to borrow, but I wonder if it will be easy to return."
The fortune teller, who witnessed this scene from the stairs, seemed to be deep in thought.
There might be some typos because I switched to a new input method!
