Chapter 1415
He snapped the section chief's neck and then flew away.
He leaned back in his chair, looking calmly at Luo Fei with a faint, confident smile on his face.
"Have you thought through what I just said? Do you want to explain yourself?"
His tone suggested he was giving Luo Fei one last chance, as if to say, "I know everything, you can't hide it from me."
Luo Fei raised his eyes and looked at Li Daming's calm and composed face. There was no flaw on that face, no sign of guilt or panic.
Having served as the head of the interrogation section of the Dali Division for so many years, Li Daming had long since developed the ability to conceal his emotions.
But Luo Fei knew that beneath that calm face lay a secret that couldn't be brought to light.
He's not going to beat around the bush anymore.
Luo Fei leaned forward slightly, staring directly into Li Daming's eyes, a cold smile playing on his lips.
"Shota Watanabe".
He shouted those four words in a voice that was not loud but clear enough.
Li Daming's body visibly stiffened for a moment.
In that instant, the composure and calm on his face seemed to be shattered by a hammer, revealing the astonishment and horror beneath. His pupils suddenly contracted, his eyes twitched slightly, and his fingers gripping the pen tightened involuntarily.
But that expression lasted for less than a second.
The next second, Li Daming regained his composure, as if his momentary loss of composure was just a gust of wind that had blown in from nowhere, leaving no trace.
What are you saying?
Li Daming's voice remained steady, even more so than before, but a barely perceptible hint of alertness flashed deep in his eyes.
"I don't understand."
Seeing his momentary loss of composure and his rapid return to calm, Luo Fei became even more certain. He was right; Li Daming was indeed a pawn planted in the Dali Division by the Kingdom of Sakura.
"Can't understand?"
Luo Fei leaned back in his chair, the cold smile on his lips not fading, but rather becoming even more pronounced.
"The Japanese devils' plans are all perfect, and every step is calculated precisely. You have planted more than 3,800 spies in the Great Xia officialdom, infiltrating every department and every level."
You've spent decades weaving this net, bit by bit, waiting for it to grow, waiting for your people to climb to a high enough position.
He paused, his gaze piercing Li Daming's face like a knife.
“But you have misjudged me.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Luo Fei suddenly stood up.
His hands were handcuffed to the metal bar of the interrogation chair. The force with which he stood up was so great that with a crisp "crack," the metal bar welded to the interrogation chair was snapped in two.
The broken metal splinters stood menacingly, and the handcuffs were still hanging on the broken bar, but Luo Fei's arms were now free.
Li Daming's expression changed drastically. He abruptly stood up from his chair and instinctively took a step back. He was about to call for the guards outside.
But before he could finish speaking, Luo Fei interrupted him.
"What did you call me?"
Luo Fei's voice was calm and unhurried, but every word sounded as if it had been pulled out of an ice cellar.
"If you're going to threaten me, you'd better think carefully. You know perfectly well what you said in this room. Do you believe I'll expose every single word you said in the interrogation room?"
"you--"
Li Daming's pupils contracted again, his lips turned slightly pale, and the rest of his words got stuck in his throat.
Luo Fei did not give him another chance to speak.
He stepped forward, raised his right palm high, and slammed it down on the metal interrogation table in front of him.
"boom--"
With a loud crash, Luo Fei cleaved the all-metal interrogation table, welded to the ground, in two with a single palm strike. The tabletop collapsed, the broken metal edges twisted and deformed, and the folders, notebooks, and water glasses on the table crashed to the ground, shattering into pieces.
Water splashed onto Li Daming's trousers, but he didn't care anymore.
Luo Fei did not pause.
He walked around the shattered table and grabbed Li Daming by the neck.
Li Daming tried to struggle, but his strength was utterly insignificant compared to Luo Fei's. Luo Fei used one arm to lift Li Daming off the ground, his feet dangling in the air.
Li Daming's face instantly turned purple. He desperately tried to pry Luo Fei's fingers apart, but they wouldn't budge, like trying to pry steel bars.
"Click".
A crisp sound rang out clearly in the interrogation room.
Luo Fei snapped Li Daming's neck.
Li Daming's body twitched, his hands fell limply to his sides, and his head tilted to one side at an unnatural angle.
Luo Fei released his grip, and Li Daming's body slumped to the ground like a lump of mud. His glasses were askew, his eyes were wide open, and the horror of his last moments before death lingered on his face.
The interrogation room fell into a deathly silence.
Then, a sharp scream shattered the silence.
Chen Ke, the female recorder sitting in the corner, had fallen off her chair and landed on the ground. She braced herself with her hands on the ground and kept shrinking back.
Her face was deathly pale, her lips trembled violently, and her usually calm eyes were now filled with terror. She tried to scream, but her throat seemed to be blocked by something, and she could only let out one hoarse scream after another.
Luo Fei turned his head and looked at Chen Ke on the ground.
Chen Ke shuddered and desperately tried to shrink back until her back hit the corner of the wall, leaving her nowhere to retreat. Her entire body trembled violently, tears welled up uncontrollably, and her lips moved as if she wanted to say something but couldn't.
Luo Fei looked at her for two seconds and then spoke.
The voice was surprisingly calm.
"I don't kill women."
He paused, then added.
"They wouldn't kill their own compatriots either."
Chen Ke was stunned. She sat blankly on the ground, staring at Luo Fei's face, tears still streaming down her face, but her body was no longer trembling so violently.
Luo Fei ignored her and turned to walk to the door of the interrogation room.
The interrogation room door was a reinforced metal security door, locked from the outside. It was at least five centimeters thick, and the door frame was reinforced with steel plates welded around it. An ordinary person would have absolutely no way to bypass this type of door.
Luo Fei kicked him.
"boom--"
The reinforced security door flew off the frame like a plank hit by a cannonball, crashing into the wall across the corridor with a deafening bang.
The door panel was twisted and deformed beyond recognition, all the welds around the door frame were broken, and chunks of cement were falling down with a clatter.
The alarm in the corridor suddenly blared. The piercing sound of the alarm bells echoed throughout the interrogation center, and the red alarm lights flashed wildly in the corridor, illuminating the entire passageway in alternating flashes of light and darkness.
Luo Fei strode into the corridor.
He activated super speed.
In an instant, everything around him seemed to slow down. The flashing alarm lights flickered on and off slowly like broken light bulbs, the dust floating in the air at the end of the corridor was clearly visible, and even the sound seemed to travel more slowly.
He alone was as fast as lightning.
He charged down the corridor, smashing through four security doors in succession. Each door was like paper under his impact, the metal panels shattering into pieces that slowly flew through the air.
He heard the panicked shouts and chaotic footsteps of the guards behind him, but they were left far behind and could not catch up with him at all.
He leaped up at the corner of the stairs, using the wall as leverage, and propelled himself upwards like a cannonball. After several twists and turns, he reached the upper floors of the interrogation center.
Gunshots finally rang out behind us.
Bullets grazed his body, striking the wall and sending sparks flying. But the bullets seemed to fly far too slowly to him; he sidestepped, tilted his head, and dodged, each movement perfectly timed to deflect the bullets.
Ahead is a window leading to the outside.
Without any hesitation, Luo Fei crashed into it.
"Splash—"
The tempered glass shattered upon impact, scattering countless fragments. His body was thrown out of the window, dozens of meters above the ground, where a biting mountain wind rushed in.
Luo Fei pushed off the windowsill with his foot, leaping high into the air once again, shooting towards the sky like an arrow released from a bow.
After flying a long distance, Luo Fei looked back at the scene from mid-air.
He then realized what the place he had just been in looked like.
It was a continuous mountain range, its vast ridges undulating in the twilight, covered with thick vegetation. And atop the ridges lay a dilapidated section of the ancient Great Wall.
The gray-blue city bricks, weathered by wind and rain over thousands of years, have become incomplete, and the broken walls and ruins exude an air of vicissitude and desolation in the afterglow of the setting sun.
The building he had just rushed out of was hidden deep in a mountain valley. The dusty cement building blended into the surrounding mountains, and from a distance, it was impossible to tell that anyone was imprisoned there.
The Dali Division's interrogation center was hidden deep in the mountains at the foot of the Great Wall.
Luo Fei withdrew his gaze and did not look back.
His body traced an arc in mid-air, his feet pushing off the void as if stepping on an invisible pedal, propelling him forward again. His figure grew smaller and smaller in the twilight, finally disappearing on the horizon.
On the ground, dozens of guards and watchmen who had chased after the figure looked up, watching helplessly as it disappeared into the air. Some instinctively raised their guns, fingers on the triggers, but didn't know where to aim.
Everyone stood there in the open space below the interrogation center, staring blankly at the sky, their faces showing expressions as if they had seen a ghost.
……
When the news reached the National Security Department, Grand Secretary Wei was reviewing documents in his office.
The secretary didn't even bother to knock before barging in, her face pale, clutching a freshly printed report, her voice trembling.
"Your Excellency! Something terrible has happened!"
Grand Secretary Wei raised his head, took off his reading glasses, and frowned slightly as he looked at the expression on his secretary's face.
"What's wrong? Why are you so flustered?"
The secretary took a deep breath and tried to calm her voice, but it didn't work.
"Luo Fei... Luo Fei ran away from the Dali Division."
Grand Secretary Wei paused.
"Ran?"
His voice rose a few decibels, and an expression of disbelief appeared on his face.
"He killed Li Daming, the head of the interrogation department, and snapped his neck. Then he smashed open the interrogation room door, broke through several security doors, jumped out of the window, and flew away."
As the secretary spoke, his voice grew softer and softer, because even he himself felt that what he was saying was absurd.
But that's what the official announcement said.
Grand Secretary Wei remained silent for a full ten seconds.
In those ten seconds, countless thoughts flashed through his mind. Luo Fei killed Li Daming. Luo Fei escaped. Luo Feifei left. Any one of these three pieces of information, taken individually, would be enough to give one a headache, but when all three happened simultaneously, he was left speechless.
"understood."
Grand Secretary Wei only uttered these three words in the end, but his expression was several degrees darker than before.
Half an hour later, the elders held an emergency meeting.
……
When the news reached the Tianji Group training center, Zhou Xiaobei was leading a group of children in physical training on the training field.
Su Muchen jogged over, phone in hand, her face ashen, as if coated in soot. She handed the phone to Zhou Xiaobei; the screen displayed a wanted poster recently released in the internal system.
The arrest warrant listed Luo Fei's name, photo, and ID number, and the charges against him were suspected treason, murder of the head of the interrogation section of the Dali Prefecture, and violent escape.
Zhou Xiaobei stared at the words on the screen, frozen in place, her hand holding the phone trembling.
"impossible!"
He practically yelled it out.
"Our boss can't possibly be a Japanese spy! That's absolutely impossible!"
His voice startled the children on the training field. The teenagers from the Heavenly Mystery Group gathered around, and when they saw the wanted poster on their phones, they all went wild.
"fart!"
A boy who was usually quiet was the first to speak, his voice trembling and his eyes red.
"How could our leader be a traitor! He almost lost his life to save us!"
"The people from the Dali Division are talking nonsense! What makes them think our boss is a spy!"
"The boss killed the head of the interrogation department? That means that guy deserved to die!"
The children shouted amongst themselves, their faces filled with anger and disbelief. Some even rushed up to Su Muchen, yelling, "If our leader is a traitor, then why is he still here? Why is he still standing here talking?"
Su Muchen looked at the children's reactions, remained silent for a moment, and then raised his hand to signal everyone to quiet down.
"I don't believe it either."
Her voice wasn't loud, but every word was firm and resolute.
“Although I haven’t worked with Luo Fei for very long, I have witnessed his actions firsthand. A traitor would not risk his life to rush back when something happens at the training center. A traitor would not risk being blown up to save his own brothers.”
She paused, then glanced at Zhou Xiaobei.
Zhou Xiaobei bit her lip, her eyes were red and swollen, but she tried hard not to let the tears fall.
Yuan Bingyan stood to the side, saying nothing, only nodding slightly. (End of Chapter)
