Chapter 826 Extra 3
She walked toward one of the stone benches.
"Wait!" Roger said urgently, almost rushing forward.
He strode into the stone hut next door, which served as a storage room, and rummaged around inside for a while before quickly taking out a relatively soft animal hide.
At that moment, he didn't care about anything else and carefully laid the animal hide on the cold stone bench, smoothing out every wrinkle.
“Sit here, this… is softer,” he said softly, without looking up at her, afraid that the desire in his eyes would frighten her.
Bai Wanwan's gaze lingered for a moment on the obviously inferior animal hide, then she sat down without refusing.
Seeing her sit down, Roger remembered something and turned around to go back into the food next to him.
Hidden there were the lantern fruits he had just picked from the steep cliff that day, which he planned to deliver early the next morning, carefully wrapped in broad leaves.
He carefully took out a few of the plumpest and reddest ones, quickly washed them in a water jug in the corner of the room, and presented them to her with a clean leaf.
"This... fruit is very sweet and juicy, why don't you... try it?" He spoke very softly, as if afraid of ruining this time alone together.
Bai Wanwan hummed in agreement, her gaze sweeping over the bright red, juicy fruit. She then stretched out her slender fingers and picked one up.
Under Roger's tense and focused gaze, she brought the fruit to her lips and took a small bite.
The plump fruit burst open, and the sweet juice clung to her soft lips, glistening with an alluring sheen.
Roger saw it and felt that the bitten red fruit was more dazzling than any treasure in the world.
Her lips, glistening with juice, were fuller and more moist than the most delicate flower petals; their taste must have surpassed all honey.
A strong, almost instinctive desire suddenly surged up, burning his nerves.
He quickly looked away, lowered his head, and pinched his palm hard, using the pain to bring himself back to his senses.
The beast of desire within him roared and charged wildly, but he used all his strength to build a cage and imprison it tightly.
He can't afford to lose control any longer.
There can be absolutely no possibility of frightening or hurting her.
Bai Wanwan took in all of his subtle reactions.
His intense gaze, his hasty dodge, his clenched fists turning white, and the tension that was forcibly suppressed to the point of being almost visible to the naked eye all around him.
A slight smile played on her lips as she slowly and methodically finished eating the entire fruit.
During this time, Roger couldn't help but secretly raise his eyelids and quickly glance at her a few times.
Watching her eat the fruit in small bites, the overwhelming emotion in his heart, a mixture of happiness and bittersweetness, almost overflowed. The love in his eyes was so intense that it could no longer be completely concealed, sparkling like starlight.
After finishing the fruit, Bai Wanwan wiped her hands with a leaf before raising her head again, her eyes clear as she looked at Roger, who was standing stiffly to the side.
“Roger,” she called out the name, her voice soft but making Roger shudder, “is there something you want to say to me?”
Roger was completely stunned, his mind went blank, and he couldn't react for a long time.
She called him... Roger?
She knows?
Countless questions and panic overwhelmed him instantly. Bai Wanwan's beautiful eyes stared straight at him without blinking, her gaze calm yet carrying a penetrating power that made Roger's heart race again, as if it were about to leap out of his throat.
What does Wanwan mean by that?
A test? Or to drive him away...? And if she knew all this, why did she come alone?
He dared not dwell on that slim possibility.
Seeing that he remained silent, Bai Wanwan seemed very patient and asked again, her tone softening but becoming clearer: "Think about it carefully. Is there anything you want to say to me?"
Roger's forehead was almost sweating; he had so much to say!
Repentance, longing, love... a thousand words stuck in my chest, churning and surging.
But he didn't know which sentence Wanwan wanted to hear.
What if I say something wrong and she gets angry and leaves?
The decisiveness he usually displayed in handling prey and dealing with danger had vanished, leaving only a blank and bewildered void.
Seeing him scratching his head, his face turning pale with anxiety, yet unable to utter a complete sentence, Bai Wanwan sighed almost inaudibly and stood up.
"Then tell me when you've thought it through." Her tone was unreadable. "Until then, you don't need to send anything over anymore."
After saying that, she turned around and made a move to walk towards the door.
"Wait!" The body's instincts outpaced all rational considerations.
Bai Wanwan felt a tightness around her wrist, the force hot and firm, even with a slight, imperceptible tremor, holding her firmly in place.
This time, he didn't hurriedly let go under her gaze as he usually did.
Instead, the fingers tightened as if on their own, with an almost greedy lingering affection, the fingertips even unconsciously caressing the delicate skin of her wrist.
It was as if this brief, real touch was the only piece of driftwood he could grasp in his desolate years, the only solace that supported him as he continued to wander in the boundless darkness.
In that instant, the longing that had been suppressed in his eyes for nearly ten years burst forth like a flood, overturning the carefully constructed dam of reason.
He wanted to hold that slender wrist tightly, to possess it, to get closer to it, and to never let go again!
Time seemed to stretch out, yet it also felt like only a moment had passed.
Bai Wanwan's calm gaze, like a clear spring, extinguished the wildfire that was about to rage in his eyes. That gaze, like a still spring, reflected his almost out-of-control stubbornness and greed.
He was jolted awake from his frenzied dream by the burning gaze.
Roger suddenly let go. What did he do?
He actually... he actually tried to stop her!
"I...I'm sorry." He lowered his head, his voice hoarse, filled with self-loathing and deep regret. "I have no right to...I..."
He was incoherent and barely dared to look at her, afraid of seeing disgust or wariness in her eyes.
He had finally gotten a little closer to her, but this latest loss of control might send him tumbling back into an even deeper abyss.
He was so engrossed in his immense self-blame that he didn't immediately notice Bai Wanwan's movements.
Until... that faint, sweet fragrance that haunted his dreams did not fade away, but instead lingered around him even more clearly.
Roger looked up in surprise.
Instead of turning away because of his earlier offense, Bai Wanwan took a step forward, actively closing the distance between them.
She tilted her head slightly, her clear eyes staring at him without blinking. There was no blame, no fear in her eyes, only an emotion he couldn't understand.
The night breeze seemed to have stopped flowing, leaving only Roger's deafening heartbeat that seemed to burst out of his chest.
