Chapter 65

Resigned to One's Fate

Chapter 65 Resigned to One's Fate

Holly University.

At eight o'clock in the morning, a cordon had already been set up at the school gate.

There were three times as many Secret Service agents as usual, their black uniforms standing out vividly in the morning light.

Magical girls patrolled back and forth in the sky, and at the entrance, someone carried a scanner, scanning every student entering the school from head to toe.

AET exam.

The most important exam at Holly University, bar none.

The results of this exam directly determine whether students can graduate, which company they can intern at, and how far they can go in their careers.

Raising the alert level is an annual practice.

Bai Yuze walked through the school gate and glanced back.

Chiba Yume followed behind him, wearing a deep blue dress today, with her hair down and a small hair clip. She looked completely different from the girl who usually wore a faded school uniform.

Bai Yuze was stunned for a moment; he hadn't expected her to wear this dress to the exam.

People around them have started to notice.

"Who is that?"

"Chiba Yumeyu, right? She's in our class."

"Wow, when did she become so beautiful?"

"I'd never noticed before —"

Whispers drifted in from all directions. Some people stopped and turned to look, while others quietly asked the person next to them which class the girl was from. There were only a few pretty girls in the class, so how could they not be curious when another one suddenly appeared?

Chiba Yumeko kept her head down, as if she hadn't heard those sounds.

But Bai Yuze, who was standing to the side, could still notice that something was wrong with his employees.

He seemed a little nervous, an emotion he rarely displayed.

In response, Bai Yuzhe slowed his pace and waited for her to approach.

"Little fish."

Chiba Yumeyu raised her head.

Bai Yuze chuckled and teased, "You'd better get a good score on this exam, otherwise you'll have to work for me for the rest of your life, and you won't be able to leave even if you want to."

Chiba Yumeyu was stunned for a moment, but the next second, Bai Yuze clearly noticed that the other person's eyes seemed to light up.

His heart skipped a beat.

"Just kidding, just kidding."

Bai Yuze quickly waved his hand, his tone becoming serious, "Xiaoyu, study hard for the exam. I can't even support myself now, and I might have to rely on you for help later."

Chiba Yume looked at him, paused slightly, and then nodded.

"it is good."

Bai Yuze was stunned.

He stared at Chiba Yumeyu for two seconds, unsure whether her "good" meant she agreed to do well on the exam or to support him.

But Chiba Yumeyu had already lowered her head and continued walking forward.

Bai Yuzhe watched her retreating figure and suddenly felt that this girl seemed a little different today.

However, seeing that she seemed to be in good condition, Bai Yuzhe withdrew his gaze and walked towards the examination room.

His exam room was on the fourth floor of Building A.

When he pushed the door open and went inside, half of the people were already sitting there.

Each seat was two meters apart, and the desks were bare except for an admission ticket and a few pens. The proctor stood on the podium, his gaze sweeping over each person like a scanner.

Bai Yuze found his seat and sat down.

Then his gaze swept around the room.

Hmm, he spotted two familiar faces. One was his good brother, Liu Hao, who was sitting diagonally in front of him, staring intently at the table, his lips pressed into a thin line, his whole body taut like a fully drawn bow.

Bai Yuze looked at him for a few seconds, then looked away.

Speaking of which, Liu Hao's attitude towards him seems to have changed a bit since he helped him last time.

The other person will say thank you, but when we bump into each other in class, the look in their eyes is still exactly the same as before: "I will surpass you one day."

Bai Yuzhe didn't care about this; he knew what the other party was thinking.

In Liu Hao's eyes, he was the kind of person who took shortcuts, climbing the ladder through connections, favors, and things that weren't based on real ability. Liu Hao himself, on the other hand, was someone who relied on hard work, taking things one step at a time, and letting his achievements speak for themselves.

This AET exam is his last chance. After it's over, everyone will go their separate ways.

Who goes far and who doesn't, it all depends on this exam paper.

Bai Yuzhe withdrew his gaze and looked at the window seat on the right, where Su Xue had already sat down.

She remained the same, with a cold and aloof expression, showing no tension or unease, as if none of this concerned her.

Bai Yuzhe looked at her for a few seconds, then looked away.

He didn't have any particular thoughts; he was just there to take the exam.

Ring ring—

The bell rang.

The proctor started handing out curls.

The examination room was very quiet.

The only sound in the classroom was the footsteps of the proctors patrolling back and forth, each step ticking against everyone's nerves.

Occasionally, there was the sound of turning over test papers; Bai Yuze finished very quickly.

I printed out the mock exam for my senior brother yesterday. Although he didn't do it, he glanced at it a few times.

Those questions were much harder than today's test. Senior Brother Aiwas never follows any set pattern when setting questions; he seems to want to cram all the knowledge points about the structure of abyssal creatures into a single question.

In comparison, today's exam felt like—an after-dinner stroll.

He doesn't even need to think too much; just glance at the question, and the answer pops up on its own.

After finishing the last question, he put down his pen and glanced out the window.

The sun is shining brightly.

Time flies.

Time will slip away unnoticed when you're fully engaged in anything.

The same applies to exams.

Thump thump thump—

The day's exams are over.

The bell rang, and the papers were taken away.

Inside the examination room, people began to whisper among themselves, some sighed, and others packed up their things to leave.

Bai Yuze stood up and stretched his neck.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Liu Hao looking in his direction.

His gaze, however, passed over the crowd and landed on the seat by the window.

Su Xue was packing her things, her face expressionless, just like when she came in this morning.

Bai Yuze walked over and stood next to her.

"Class monitor."

Su Xue looked up and glanced at him.

Bai Yuze asked, "What did you think of the difficulty of this exam?"

Su Xue's indifferent eyes lingered on his face for a second.

"fine."

"So, class monitor, do you have a plan for where you'll be doing your internship?"

Su Xue looked at him without saying a word.

After a long pause, she suddenly spoke, but not in response to Bai Yuzhe's question. Instead, she slowly said, "You like me?"

That was a really direct question. Even Bai Yuze was a little flustered. "I wouldn't say I like you, but I guess I have some feelings for you."

Su Xue looked at him and nodded.

"oh."

Then she lowered her head and continued packing her things.

That was the end of it.

Bai Yuzhe stood there, watching her put her pencil case into her schoolbag, then stand up, walk past him, and head towards the door.

Throughout the entire process, I didn't look at him again.

Bai Yuzhe watched the slender figure disappear through the door and let out a soft hum.

"If I didn't know you were the magical girl Hydrangea, I wouldn't be interested in a emotionless loli like you. Wouldn't a gentle, sweet older sister be more appealing?"

After venting his frustrations, Bai Yuze looked away, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and started walking out.

As soon as he stepped out of the classroom, he saw Chiba Yume standing at the door.

She's different today.

She wore a beige knit sweater with a dark long skirt, her hair was loose, and a thin braid was tucked behind her ear.

He was holding his phone tightly, his expression serious as if he were about to discuss something important.

"What's wrong?"

"I promised you I'd treat you to dinner after the exams the day before yesterday," Chiba Yumeyu said softly, then paused and added, "Let's go now."

Bai Yuze was stunned for a moment.

He suddenly understood why the other person had dressed up so carefully today; it turned out they were waiting for him here.

However, Bai Yuze didn't refuse. "Sure, where to?"

"Guanfeng Pavilion".

Bai Yuze's lips twitched. He reached out and pinched Qianye Mengyu's cheek. "When did you become so extravagant? Do you know what kind of place that is? One meal there will cost two months' rent. Besides, the food there only looks good; it doesn't taste good at all. Let me, the boss, choose the restaurant!"

Chiba Yumeyu paused for a moment, as if to say something.

But Bai Yuze had already turned and walked forward.

She watched his retreating figure, opened her mouth as if to speak, but ultimately followed silently.

In Hanjiang District, Bai Yuze chose a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The shop was small and the signboard was old, but the aroma wafting from inside was very authentic.

Chiba Yume sat opposite him, holding her water glass in both hands, sipping it slowly and somewhat awkwardly.

The light fell on her, making her skirt shimmer with a soft glow, and the lace at the neckline accentuated her beautiful collarbone.

At this moment, the waiter handed over the menu, and Chiba Yume reached out to take it.

Bai Yuze grabbed it first, and while he was ordering, Qianye Mengyu, sitting next to him, whispered, "Boss, this place is a bit too small."

"9

"You don't trust my taste, do you?"

Bai Yuze didn't even look up, flipping through the menu. "This restaurant may be a bit small, but the food is excellent, all made with fresh ingredients."

Chiba Yumeyu opened her mouth as if to say something, but ultimately kept it closed.

She had started saving money a long time ago, part of which was to help her younger brother quit his illicit activities, and the other part was to treat Bai Yuze to a meal.

But now that the other party has refused, and brought her here, she should feel that her feelings are not valued.

But she couldn't feel resentful because she knew the other person was helping her save money.

Bai Yuze glanced at the menu and started ordering.

"This, this, and this soup."

Chiba Yume glanced at the menu and whispered, "Boss, didn't you order too little?"

"That's quite a lot."

Bai Yuzhe returned the menu to the waitress, then looked at her and teased, "You only ate a small bowl last night when I cooked. But today you complained it wasn't enough. Are you upset that my cooking isn't good?"

Chiba Yumeyu was stunned for a moment, then waved her hands repeatedly.

"No, no!"

Her face flushed slightly. "I was worried you wouldn't have enough to eat—"

Bai Yuzhe found it somewhat amusing to see her so eager to explain.

She was the one who was treating, and she wanted to go to Guanfeng Pavilion, but he dragged her here instead; she wanted to order more food, but he stopped her with a single sentence.

Anyone else would probably be sulking by now.

But Chiba Yumeyu is different; once he makes a decision, the other party usually doesn't object.

To accept one's fate passively.

"Alright,"

Bai Yuze softened his tone, "This is enough to eat. It would be a waste if we couldn't finish it."

Chiba Yumeyu nodded and said nothing more.

The food was served quickly. Bai Yuze picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks and casually asked, "How did the exam go?"

Chiba Yumeyu nodded: "It's alright."

When she was doing the test paper that Bai Yuzhe brought this morning, she felt like the sky had fallen, but when the actual exam came, she found that the AET test paper was much easier.

Do you have any plans regarding internship opportunities?

Her chopsticks paused for a moment, she looked up at him, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes.

"I haven't decided yet—"

Bai Yuzhe looked at her.

The confusion was obvious; she genuinely didn't know where she should go.

Then, Chiba Yume looked at him, as if she wanted to get an answer from him.

Bai Yuze chuckled. "It's alright. The exams have just finished, and the results haven't come out yet. You can go back and think about it slowly. If you really can't think of anything else, I'll help you make arrangements."

Upon hearing this, the confusion in Chiba Yume's eyes vanished instantly, as if she had been given a reassuring pill.

She lowered her head and continued eating.

Bai Yuzhe looked at her, suddenly feeling a little dazed.

When I saw her before, she always had her head down, spoke little, and worked efficiently, like a machine that never made a mistake.

But today, wearing this dress, with the lights shining on her, her features softened considerably, and she looked like a completely different person.

She accepted whatever he arranged without resistance or questioning, and even—somewhat enjoyed it.

After a long while, Bai Yuze withdrew his gaze and picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks.

Forget it.

Let them depend on us then.

After all, it's not easy to find such good five-star employees.

After finishing his meal, Bai Yuze escorted Qianye Mengyu downstairs.

The alley was narrow, and the streetlights cast a dim yellow glow, making the two people's shadows appear very long.

Chiba Yume walked half a step ahead, her pace slow, as if she was waiting for something, or perhaps she just didn't want to finish the journey so quickly.

When she reached the door, she stopped and turned to look at him.

Bai Yuzhe stood at the bottom of the steps, looking at her, and slowly instructed, "If anyone asks you what happened tonight, just say you were working part-time for Sister Lu, and you don't know anything else. As for your father and your brother, I will take care of them for you."

Chiba Yumeyu was stunned for a moment.

She opened her mouth as if to ask something, but in the end she just nodded.

"it is good."

She didn't know how she got back.

The memory of that night with the Ash Gang is like a piece of paper soaked in water, blurred into a mess, and nothing can be seen clearly.

She didn't know how Bai Yuze had managed to do it.

But she won't ask.

She only needed to know one thing: without him, she would have died long ago, on that operating table of the Ash Gang.

"Go in."

Chiba Yumeyu nodded. "Yes, thank you for taking me home, boss."

"polite!"

Chiba Yumeyu pushed open the door and went inside.

The moment the door closed, she stood in the darkness and didn't turn on the light immediately.

Bai Yuze stood at the top of the stairs, looked up, and gazed at the window opposite.

The lights were still on in Ah Long's house, and you could faintly hear children laughing inside.

He looked at it for a few seconds, thought about it, and ultimately did nothing. There was no need. The Ash Gang was gone, so be it. The main problem was not knowing whose black glove the other party was, which was the most troublesome thing.

Bai Yuzhe thought about it and realized that he needed to speed up his search for an internship.
