Chapter 10

Practical Combat Exercises

As a martial artist.

No matter how good your basic skills are or how strong your talent is, it all comes down to real combat.

This is also the origin of the final part of the martial arts exam: the practical combat exercise.

Real combat requires leaving the high walls and venturing into the world outside to fight against numerous demons.

However, since the students taking the college entrance examination have only recently awakened their talents and abilities and have not had any related learning or training before, it is impossible to just throw them outside the wall and let them die in vain.

So what started as wilderness exploration has now turned into a competitive arena.

On the last day of the martial arts exam, the arena for the competition had already been set up on the training ground.

To better motivate the candidates, the practical test will be conducted in an open manner.

Parents of the test takers, as well as teachers and students from various universities, can enter the audience to watch the competition between the test takers.

When Luo Chuan arrived at the examination room, it was noisy.

The stands were already packed with people.

Looking at the number of candidates participating in the competition, there were far fewer spectators than participants.

After the first two rounds of selection, the number of candidates has been halved again.

The number of people has been reduced from over a thousand to just two or three hundred.

Once the exam begins, candidates are officially prohibited from entering the examination room.

At the same time, the principal appeared on the podium as a representative and announced the exam rules to all the candidates.

"This exam is divided into two stages."

"The first stage is the preliminary round, where candidates will be randomly divided into sixteen groups and engage in a free-for-all on sixteen arenas. Only the top four from each arena can advance."

"The second stage is an elimination round. The sixty-four candidates who advanced from the first stage will be randomly matched to compete, and the winners will continue to advance until the final champion is determined."

"The final score depends not only on the ranking, but also on the candidate's specific performance."

"I hope that all students will carry forward the spirit of hard work, do their best, and show everyone their best selves!"

"At this point, I declare—"

"take an exam--"

"start!!!"

Bang bang bang!

As the words fell, countless cannons exploded around the examination hall.

wow——

A burst of enthusiastic cheers erupted from the audience.

On the huge electronic screen, random grouping is completed quickly, and the grouping results are clearly listed.

Luo Chuan confirmed his group information and stepped onto the corresponding arena.

He scanned the arena and counted about seventeen people, including himself.

Apart from one or two students I'd only met once, I didn't really know the others.

Everyone stood awkwardly on the ring, wary of everyone else.

Once all the candidates were on stage, the invigilator immediately announced the start of the exam.

"..."

The chaotic battle had just begun, and no one dared to make a move.

However, soon, some bolder students began to take the initiative to attack others.

The arena immediately descended into chaos.

"Those with C-level talent shouldn't bother joining in!"

One candidate's body swelled up, and in the blink of an eye, he transformed into a werewolf and wreaked havoc.

He casually tossed the terrified examinee beside him off the stage, his eerie beastly eyes fixed on Luo Chuan.

"I recognize you. You're the student who got accepted into university through the special admission program after awakening a C-level talent, right? You go down too!"

He grinned menacingly and lunged at Luo Chuan with bared teeth and claws.

Luo Chuan remained dauntless and fearless.

He was just worried about having nowhere to show his strength, but unexpectedly someone came from afar to deliver his head.

The werewolf in front of them looked fierce, but that was all it was—fierce.

Most of the candidates have only recently awakened their talents, and their abilities are still developing to a limited extent, so they are not yet invincible.

Luo Chuan swung his practice sword and assumed a swordsmanship stance.

He deftly dodged the werewolf's obvious pounce, and simultaneously thrust his sword forward, deftly slicing open the werewolf's chest.

Before the werewolf could react, Luo Chuan turned around and swept the attack again.

Swah——

The towering werewolf was thus swept out of the arena.

Even after he crashed heavily off the stage, the werewolf was still completely bewildered.

"If Class C isn't qualified to join the fun, then what are you, who were kicked out by Class C?"

Luo Chuan glanced at the other person from above.

Looking back at the arena, the number of people had been reduced to less than ten.

One of them was the most at ease, and almost no candidate dared to provoke him.

Luo Chuan remembered him. Although he was overshadowed by Wang Yuan, who had awakened an S-level talent, he was still one of the few students in the school who had awakened an A-level talent.

Two other candidates seemed to have reached an agreement to eliminate the other students.

The preliminary round tests students' adaptability.

Through various means, they became the last four remaining in the ring.

Soon, with the fifth-to-last candidate being eliminated from the arena, Luo Chuan and three other candidates successfully advanced.

The chaotic battles in other arenas also gradually came to an end.

The top 64 candidates have been selected.

Wang Yuan, with his S-level talent, and all the candidates with A-level talent easily advanced.

Apart from a few unlucky ones, the rest of the B-level talent candidates made it to the end without any major incidents.

Only a handful of C-level talent candidates remained, filling the vacancies for various reasons.

This precisely proves the value of talent.

"The first stage of the preliminary rounds has now come to a successful conclusion."

"The next stage will be the elimination rounds."

"The elimination rounds will still use random matching. Please check your ranking and go to the designated arena to fight according to your number."

The martial arts exam only reached its climax in the knockout stage.

Luo Chuan stepped onto the ring.

The first opponent was a candidate with B-level talent.

"A C-rank talent... I'm so lucky..."

"That's hard to say."

……

The stands were packed with people.

Most of the stands were filled with parents of the test takers, who were there to cheer them on.

However, a small number of seats were allocated to admissions officers from various martial arts colleges to observe the candidates' performance.

You might find a hidden gem, some promising talents who have been overlooked.

There have been candidates who were eliminated early on by geniuses with S-level talent, but were eventually accepted by top-tier martial arts schools because of their outstanding performance.

"The quality of this year's candidates is very good."

A teacher from a high-level martial arts school sighed.

"Indeed, there are more students who have awakened talents of grade C or above than in previous years."

The colleagues next to him echoed his sentiments.

Both of them turned their gazes to one of the arenas in the examination hall.

On the stage, a tall young man, his body crackling with blue lightning, sent his opponent flying out of the ring with a single punch.

"That must be the candidate who awakened an S-rank talent, right? He's clearly much stronger than the other candidates. He'll probably be the champion of this year's martial arts exam."

"It's a pity I heard he's already been specially recruited by Imperial University, otherwise we would never let such a promising talent go."

Beijing University is one of only five top-tier universities in the country, and it has consistently topped the rankings for many years, making it impossible for other first-class institutions to compete with it.

Therefore, their target for observing the exam was the students who achieved an A grade or even a B grade.

These students are not like S-level geniuses who are snapped up by prestigious universities, but they have outstanding potential and talent and can become the backbone of the school.

The two watched the competition between the A-level and B-level candidates.

Soon, a C-level candidate came into their view.

To their surprise, the candidate had managed to defeat a stronger opponent, eliminating someone from the B-level group.

Before the two could even gasp in surprise, excited shouts came from not far away.

"They're here!"

A female teacher wearing glasses stared intently at the ring in a corner.

The two couldn't help but follow each other's gaze.

A candidate holding a sword stood calmly on the field, then suddenly swung his sword.

The sword flashed through the air, striking the opponent's weak point and sweeping them off the stage.

"this……"

The two were so captivated by the superb swordsmanship that they forgot about the other examinees.

They only snapped out of their daze when that candidate eliminated yet another candidate.

"Quick, see who he is! He's absolutely a talent!"

The teachers from top universities called out eagerly.

"Let me see..."

The colleague next to him quickly checked the candidate's information.

"Ah, I found it..."

"His name is... Luo Chuan... He has awakened a talent..."

"Grade C?"

"How is that possible?!"

Upon seeing the information displayed on the screen, the two were immediately stunned into silence.
