Chapter 84
A Pile of Bad Ideas
Chapter 84 A Bunch of Terrible Ideas (2nd/4th Update)
The next morning.
Drizzt rushed to the association again.
In addition to informing Bann that the foundation had requested the main forces of the four associations to assemble along the Rouge River.
Incidentally, they also brought a batch of protest materials, including banners and other signage, as well as several hundred HSUS T-shirts and hats.
Looking at all those T-shirts, Twisted Fate couldn't stop eating.
According to the foundation, HSUS is short-staffed in Detroit and needs members of the association to fill their positions.
"But that's just an excuse!"
"What do you mean, 'not enough manpower'? HSUS organized a protest team of nearly a hundred people in Detroit this time!"
"Ultimately, this was all Evan's scheme; he just didn't want our association's logo to appear at this protest!"
"He's trying to create the illusion that our association didn't participate in the protest and made no contribution whatsoever!"
Hearing this, Bane couldn't help but laugh. That was wonderful.
Wearing HSUS clothes to cause trouble makes one even more unscrupulous.
Two o'clock in the afternoon.
Inside a bar in southwest Detroit.
Five African Americans huddled together, drinking and trying not to laugh.
As they laughed, one of the men couldn't help but yell, "Fuck you, Ni Ge, stop laughing! What's so funny?!"
"Sorry, hahahahaha————"
"I guarantee that if you laugh again, I'll rip your tongue off and shove it up your ass."
As soon as he finished speaking, the five African Americans burst into laughter again, including the one who had made the threatening remarks; he was laughing himself.
"My grandma would never have imagined that one day her grandson would be wearing animal rights clothing and going to the banks of the Rouge River to participate in a protest!" someone said, laughing.
They had accompanied Reg and Tessa to see Bane, so they naturally knew in advance what the Rat Gang members were going to do next.
"By the way, what exactly is the Great Lakes sturgeon? Is it a type of fish? Have you ever seen one?"
"Of course it's fish, but I don't know if it will taste good. My grandma is really good at cooking fish."
"Then after the protest ends tomorrow, shall we try to catch a few for your grandma to cook?"
"Brother Ni, what a generous gift! Do you know what you're saying? My grandma died a long time ago, but my aunt inherited her skills."
"You two shut up. Don't forget who we are right now. We're protesting for the sturgeon in the Rouge River. How can you be thinking about catching fish here to eat?"
After saying that, he immediately added, "We should go to Lake St. Clair to catch sturgeon; the sturgeon there are clean."
"Hahahahaha————" The group burst into laughter again, leaning over the table.
As they were laughing, one of them caught a glimpse of several people entering the tavern and quickly reminded them, "Stop laughing, the boss is coming."
The crowd immediately stopped laughing and all looked towards the tavern entrance.
Then they saw a black man and a black woman accompanying a young man with a camera around his neck and a Slavic woman who looked like a model walking towards them.
It was Reg, the leader of the River Rat gang, Tessa, the black mother, and Bane and Sofia.
Upon seeing Sofia, the young man at the table couldn't help but exclaim, "Hey, look at that Slavic woman, she's really beautiful! If only I could—"
"Snap!"
Before he could finish speaking, another burly Black man slapped him across the face, interrupting him.
"Razor, what are you doing?!" The young man covered his face in disbelief.
The black man, known as Razor, grabbed the young man by the collar and stared into his eyes.
Then, with a serious expression, he said in a low voice, word by word, "If you don't want to get into any deadly trouble, shut up."
Especially, don't say anything in front of that person with the camera around their neck!
"Why—why?" The young man was terrified by Razor. In all the time he had known him, he had never seen Razor so serious.
"No reason why, just don't mess with that guy, and don't joke around with the women around him. He's dangerous, an absolutely dangerous person, understand?"
Razor went to besiege Bane with Reg back then, and he's still in pain.
Bane paid no attention to Razor and the others' actions. He sat down at another table with Reg, Tessa, and Sophia.
After sitting down.
Bane got straight to the point, saying to Reg, "I've already said everything I needed to say on the phone. But there are some things I feel I need to discuss with you in person to make things clear."
This protest is important; it's entirely led by HSUS. In other words, you have to say, both internally and externally, that you are employed by HSUS.
"Understood." Reg nodded solemnly.
As mentioned before, most of the local street gangs in Detroit are extremely poor.
Bane is now willing to pay his people $80 a day to organize environmental protests, and he and some of the leaders also receive extra subsidies. Reg is somewhat grateful for this gesture.
For the same $80 daily wage, participating in a protest is far better than dealing with waste.
If there are frequent protests in the future, Reg will even consider "industrial transformation".
It sounds good to go from being a "violent criminal" to a "public welfare advocate."
Just as Reg was pondering whether or not to undertake "industrial transformation".
Bane continued, "Besides that, I now need you to pick out two types of people for me. Tessa, you're smarter, so please give Reg some advice."
"Tell me, which two kinds of people?" Tessa straightened up.
"The first type, the bold ones, the ones who aren't afraid of losing face, I'm willing to pay them $800," Bane said.
"Those guys over there are all pretty bold, especially that one with the dreadlocks, his name is Razor, you've met him before, last time we went—"
"He was there when I came to cause you trouble," Reg said somewhat awkwardly.
These words made Sophia, who had been silent all along, look at Bane with curiosity.
At the same time, Tessa boldly volunteered, "Actually, I'm quite brave, Mr. Cole. You even praised me for my courage last time. I think I can totally earn that $800!"
"No, no, no, you can't do it." Bane shook his head without hesitation.
Then, after carefully examining Razor and the others, he shook his head and said, "They're no good either."
"Why?" Tessa was anxious; $800 was not a small amount for her.
"Your appearances don't meet the requirements. Whether it's you or Razor and the others, you're considered to have relatively good looks within the African American community," Bane explained with a hint of apology.
"What?" Tessa wondered if there was something wrong with her ears.
"I want that kind—just that kind—" Bane began to carefully choose his words.
As he pondered, he suddenly thought of Conrad and said, "I want someone whose buttocks are at least a meter wide and shaped like a ball."
"Why?" Tessa asked, puzzled.
"Isn't it visually striking when people like this run around naked?" Bane said bluntly.
"Naked—streaking?" Reg was stunned.
"That's right, tonight at 7:5 PM, the Pistons are playing the Cavaliers at home. I have five tickets here. HSUS needs someone to run naked through the arena during halftime holding a sign that says 'HSUS Protect the Lakers'!"
"??" Reg.
"???" Tessa.
Sofia turned her head away and closed her eyes, her face instantly flushing red. It wasn't shyness, it was just her holding back.
As for Bane, he continued in a serious tone, "I might get a fine from the police, but I'll pay it, don't worry."
"In addition, I need some eloquent people."
"Tomorrow, in addition to those of us wearing HSUS clothing, there will be nearly a hundred people who truly belong to the HSUS community."
"I hope these eloquent people will flaunt this streaking incident during tomorrow's protest, in order to incite those extreme animal rights activists in HSUS to do some extreme things."
"For example?" Tessa asked curiously.
"For example, bringing sewage and sludge from the Rouge River into the Detroit Museum of Art and splashing sewage and sludge onto those famous paintings. Or for example—"
Next, Bane talked about a bunch of ridiculous ideas, most of which he had seen online before he time-traveled.
After he finished speaking, he said to Tessa and Reg, "Remember, you can incite others, but you absolutely must not do it."
