Chapter 85: Adding Pressure for You (3rd/4th Update)

Two hours later————

After finishing his conversation with Reg and Tessa, Bane left the tavern with Sophia.

As an assistant, Sofia very consciously took on the role of driver.

After driving out of the neighborhood, she finally couldn't hold back and asked, "Why does that gang leader, Reg, seem—a little afraid of you?"

"That's not fear, that's gratitude—gratitude that I gave them the opportunity to make money from protests."

This answer made Sofia's lips twitch. She thought to herself, "I'm not blind. How could I not distinguish between gratitude and fear?"

Thinking of this, she couldn't help but let her imagination run wild: "Could it be—you have another identity, like the new godfather of the Italian Mafia or something?"

"Watch less movies. Do I look Italian?"

"I honestly can't tell where you're from; all I know is that you're good-looking," Sofia shrugged, then added, "Can they really incite extreme animal rights activists to do those things?"

"Yes," Bane affirmed.

"You really have a lot of faith in them."

"It's not that I have confidence in them, it's that I have confidence in the madness of extreme animal rights activists," Bane laughed.

Then, he reclined the car seat a little, put his hands behind his head and continued, "Let me tell you, most extreme animal rights activists have a strange sense of superiority."

"The River Rat Gang doesn't hide their true origins."

"Based on this, HSUS members and volunteers would instinctively feel that the River Rat Gang members are several levels below them."

"But it was the River Rat volunteers, who were several levels below them, who did something like streaking in the stadium, and then boasted about their achievement during the protests."

"In this situation, if you were an extreme animal rights activist, what would you think?"

Sofia replied without hesitation, "Of course I'm not convinced."

Then, she drew inferences from one instance to another: "So, they will definitely try to prove that they are better than the River Rat Gang."

""

"They'll go head-to-head with the River Rat gang, who's planning to throw mud at the Detroit Museum of Art, so they might go even further than the River Rat gang."

At this point, Sofia, whose eyes were becoming increasingly bright, couldn't help but lightly tap the brakes.

Then he turned to look at Bane, who was half-reclining in the passenger seat, and sincerely praised him, "I must say, you are indeed a good teacher. I have learned a lot from you during this time."

When I go to Europe, I will definitely carry forward your operating methods and theories to repay your teachings and not let you down.

"Forget about repaying me. Just don't expose your teacher if you cause trouble in the future." In this situation, Bane couldn't help but utter that classic phrase.

But Sofia clearly didn't understand the joke.

She said solemnly, "Don't worry, if anything happens to me in the future, even if it involves you, I will not betray you."

Seeing how serious Sophia was, Bane suddenly felt a little lonely.

If this were in China, at least people would understand my jokes.

Having stayed in Detroit for so long, I haven't met a single Chinese person, nor have I heard of anyone who speaks Chinese.

There was an Asian woman with Conrad, but I heard she was from Japan.

"Sigh~~"

Bane sighed deeply.

People in Ford's public relations department were also sighing.

At this moment, they were having a meeting in a large conference room. Clarissa, who had left the association 11 days ago, was among them.

At the rectangular conference table, a man sat at the head of the table; he was none other than Jerry, the head of the public relations department.

To be honest, this name could easily be paired with Tom from General Motors to form a pop duo.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the information Ms. O'Connell brought is accurate. I have checked with the police in Wayne County and Detroit, and there are indeed four NG0s that have filed for protests, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. tomorrow."

Jerry finished speaking.

The people in the public relations department looked at each other with varying expressions.

The main problem is that there have been so many protests against Ford over the years that they've become somewhat numb and indifferent.

Clarissa secretly observed their reactions, feeling somewhat dissatisfied.

How can I sell my solution to them when they seem so relaxed and unhurried?

So she looked around at everyone and added, "In addition, I just received a message that their protests are very likely to take place tonight."

That's right, Bane made the River Rat gang run naked partly to put pressure on Ford's public relations department.

But Jerry, the person in charge, shrugged and said, "A protest tonight? But I haven't heard of any record of it."

"Does every protest need to be registered? Can't we protest in an illegal way?" Clarissa retorted.

"So, what methods do they plan to use to protest?"

"I don't know about that, but there's definitely going to happen tonight, maybe even something big." Clarissa wouldn't say it outright.

Her goal was to make the PR team work overtime, really overtime, until their brains were a complete mess and they were exhausted from dealing with everything.

"Is the information accurate?" Jerry asked repeatedly.

"Jerry, I think you might not understand the situation yet. You think this protest against you is the same as before? You're wrong. This is a siege against Ford."

"Of course, you can choose not to believe me, but whether you believe me or not, it won't change the predicament you're about to face." Clarissa shrugged, adopting an indifferent attitude.

Jerry quickly explained with a smile, "You've misunderstood. I don't distrust you; we're business partners—"

"No, no, no, I didn't take a single penny from you. I just didn't want to see Wall Street take over Detroit, so I chose to tell you what I knew."

I'm currently just an anonymous insider, but who knows, maybe one day I'll have a flash of inspiration and come up with a great solution to your huge problem—”

At this point, Clarissa paused, then smiled and said, "At that time, perhaps we would truly be partners."

She said those things to pave the way for selling her proposal.

Having laid the groundwork, she was too lazy to stay any longer. She slowly rose from her chair and said, "You all continue the meeting. I have some things to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."

Seeing this, Jerry didn't want to stop him, so he got up and saw him off.

After Clarissa left the office and the door closed again, someone finally asked in the meeting room, "Jerry, can we trust Clarissa O'Connell?"

"She was recommended to me by higher-ups, and so far, all the information she's given us seems to match up." Jerry's tone also carried a hint of helplessness.

As he finished speaking, a woman shrugged and said, "Gentlemen, I think you might be overthinking it. Which month in Detroit hasn't there been protests against Ford?"

Even the association Clarissa used to belong to protested against us for months. But what happened? It didn't have any effect; they even disposed of our waste for us.

I think these NGOs just want to get money from us. Why don't we have someone from the Ministry of Government and Public Welfare talk to these associations and get them a donation of one or two hundred thousand? That should settle things.

The woman's words were instantly met with everyone's agreement.

If they could rely on people from the "Government and Public Welfare Department" to talk to the association, then their public relations department wouldn't have to work so hard.

They can even take the opportunity to shift the blame.

If there are any problems with public opinion in the future, it can be said that the people in the "Government and Public Welfare Department" are incompetent and failed to quell the protesting associations.

In fact, Jerry shared the same idea.

But as the person in charge, he naturally couldn't be as optimistic as his employees.

So he tapped the table and said, "I have to remind you that the higher-ups are also paying attention to this matter. Therefore, everyone stay and work overtime tonight to monitor the situation."

Upon hearing this, people in the meeting room began to complain and grumble.

However, the complaints did not change Jerry's mind, and he still forced them to stay and work overtime.

They increased it to 8 points, and nothing happened.

Now, everyone's resentment could no longer be suppressed!

"What a waste! I had plans to see a movie with my girlfriend tonight, but now it's all ruined because of that fake news about the red-haired environmental celebrity!"

"Jerry, I told you long ago, that woman's words aren't to be trusted. It's 8 o'clock, where's the protest?"

"Maybe it's a dream!"

As the complaints from the crowd grew louder, Jerry began to regret his decision.

Those people have already decided to protest tomorrow, so how could they possibly hold any illegal protest activities in advance tonight?

Isn't this unnecessary?

He muttered "Shit!" under his breath.

He planned to let his colleagues who were working overtime go home.

Just as he was about to speak, a new employee who had been diligently monitoring public opinion in the corner and hadn't said much suddenly exclaimed.

"Oh my god!"

"Something's happened, everyone!"

"Someone just ran naked in protest at the Palace of Auburn Hills holding up HSUS signs and slogans!"

The sudden exclamation silenced the complaining crowd in the office area.

The manager, Jerry, quickly went over and stood directly behind the employee, bending down to look at his computer screen.
