The Curse Takes Effect
Chapter 18 The Curse Takes Effect
"Ha!"
"Roar!"
The roars of the two wolves echoed through the factory, occasionally accompanied by the sound of teeth piercing flesh.
Battles between low-level demons are mainly melee combat. Whoever has stronger physical abilities can basically secure the victory. Magical attacks such as demon magic are secondary.
Although, at the same level, the Ghost Wolf Beast is slightly stronger than the One-Eyed Demon Wolf, it's clear that this One-Eyed Demon Wolf is nearing the advanced stage, with sharp bone spurs sprouting from its head and back. Meanwhile, Instructor Bai Yang's Ghost Wolf Beast is merely an ordinary servant, and in the ensuing exchange, Bai Yang's Ghost Wolf Beast found itself at a disadvantage.
But the one-eyed demon wolf wasn't stupid. The ghost wolf beast in front of him was enough to entangle him, and if the other human mages were free to deal with him, he probably wouldn't fare well either.
"Heh~"
The one-eyed wolf leaped onto a shipping container in the abandoned factory and then escaped through a window gap near the container.
"That beast escaped!" Bai Yang's gaze, however, was fixed on Ling Tianyu, his meaning ambiguous. "Hey, you plant-type kid, come with me, let's stop that one-eyed demon wolf!"
Ling Tianyu remained outwardly calm, nodded to the city's demon-hunting team, and disappeared into the night.
Trusting the military mages, Xu Dahuang and the others did not suspect Bai Yang's motives and focused all their attention on dealing with the other one-eyed demon wolf.
The speed of the Ghost Wolf Beast was much faster than Ling Tianyu. When he arrived, all he could see was the frenzied figure of the One-Eyed Demon Wolf, with a huge bloodstain on its back that was extremely terrifying. The Ghost Wolf Beast commanded by Bai Yang was positioned much further away from Ling Tianyu and the One-Eyed Demon Wolf, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
"Ha!"
With its one blood-red eye, the demon wolf naturally wouldn't let such a good opportunity pass by. It opened its blood-red maw and pounced on Ling Tianyu.
Ling Tianyu took a deep breath, the stench of blood filling his nostrils and assaulting his mind. His mind became unusually clear, and he focused his attention on drawing star trails.
"Vine Chase!"
A faint green light scattered, reflecting the boundless night. A dozen vines broke through the soil, tightly binding the one-eyed wolf in front of them, making it extremely difficult for it to move.
"Um?"
Ling Tianyu frowned, sensing a hint of longing emanating from the vines.
"So excited? Could it be that it can absorb the life force from the flesh and blood of demons?"
On the other side, Bai Yang was making plans, but he never expected that Ling Tianyu's strength was too far beyond his capabilities. His will was firm, and his magic release was comparable to that of an old Taoist mage, temporarily binding the one-eyed demon wolf.
"Well done!" Bai Yang had no choice but to take action in order to maintain his image as a military mage. This was also a good thing; if he were to break off relations and fight to the death, with the two attacking from the same side, Ling Tianyu might not be able to escape unscathed.
The demon wolf's sharp teeth bared, locking its jaws tightly around the one-eyed demon wolf's throat. The one-eyed demon wolf's body was briefly bound by the demonic vines, making it extremely difficult to even lift its head. It could only rely on its thick hide to withstand the attack, tearing at the tough vines with its claws in an attempt to break free.
Everything seems to be moving in a positive direction...
In reality, both of them had their own ulterior motives. Bai Yang was eager to find an opportunity to control the one-eyed demon wolf to create an "accident" to get rid of the plant-type genius, while Ling Tianyu suppressed his curiosity about the plant-type and observed the battlefield situation.
He needed to find the right moment to strike when both were weakened and deliver the fatal blow. Neither the berserk Cyclops nor the valiant Shadow Wolf could defeat Ling Tianyu in a one-on-one fight.
The Shadow Wolf Beast clearly had the upper hand, tearing off another piece of flesh in an instant, chewing it, and swallowing it. The intense pain spurred the One-Eyed Demon Wolf to exert its strength, breaking free from the vines, and its sharp claws slashed across the Shadow Wolf Beast's belly.
"Now!" Ling Tianyu's eyes darkened, a strong aura of curse permeated the air, and black and red star trails were reflected in his eyes.
"The Curse of Haze - Terrifying!"
Bai Yang was fully focused on directing the battle when he was suddenly attacked, and with such a bizarre curse power at that.
A dark red aura, imperceptible to ordinary people, swirled in Bai Yang's mind, penetrating his very soul. Bai Yang felt a sudden darkness engulf him, and visions of mountains of knives and seas of fire appeared before him, blood flowing like rivers beneath his feet, and corpses piled high like small mountains. The sheer gruesome scene terrified even Bai Yang, a member of the Black Church.
"Give me back my life!"
Bai Yang looked down and saw a hunched, withered arm clamping his calf; its owner's face was strangely familiar.
"Old Wang?" Bai Yang's heart skipped a beat. During a previous military operation, he abandoned Old Wang and fled alone. He even ordered the Ghost Wolf Beast to bite off Old Wang's thigh to attract demons with the scent of blood, giving him time to escape.
He did survive in the end, but Old Wang died a gruesome death. When he returned to that place, there was only a pool of blood on the ground, as if telling of his heartlessness and ingratitude.
Not only that, but the corpses around him were lying in disarray, all of them having died directly or indirectly from the mouths of demons because of his selfishness.
"Stop talking! You all deserve to die! Die!"
Bai Yang appeared deranged, clutching his head in agony, his face contorted in pain and deathly pale.
Already harboring a guilty conscience, Bai Yang's spirit was already on the verge of collapse with just a little provocation.
Unless one is devoid of desires, there are bound to be flaws in human nature. The strangeness of rudimentary curse magic lies in its ability to exploit these flaws, seizing every opportunity to break through the defenses of the mind and severely damage or even annihilate the soul.
At the intermediate level, its damage output becomes even more outstanding. [Well of the Evil Spider] summons nightmare spiders that devour souls, easily eliminating several intermediate mages of the same level.
