Chapter 81
Siren Crisis
Chapter 81 Siren Crisis
Ling Tianyu and Lingling attracted the attention of many villagers shortly after they appeared in Guangcheng Village.
Their remote fishing village was so unbearable that even the local young people couldn't stay there, yet young people from outside came to visit.
Whether it was an elderly person sitting in a rocking chair with their eyes closed, or a clever little child squatting on the ground playing with the mud, all eyes were focused on the two of them. Without exception, their clothes were all tattered and old, with many patches, and it was unknown how many years they had been there.
As expected of a fishing village, Ling Tianyu felt a strong fishy smell coming from the sea breeze, and in the distance, a vast expanse of blue stretched to the horizon.
Before long, an elderly man who looked to be over seventy years old walked towards the two of them.
"Could you be the demon hunters from the Azure Sky Hunting Grounds?"
His voice trembled slightly, like an old saw chopping dry wood, but this was contrasted by his robust physique and dark skin, honed from years of fishing.
"Yes, you are..." Ling Tianyu nodded and asked.
"I am the village chief of Guangcheng Village. Thank you for coming!" The old village chief said excitedly as he grasped Ling Tianyu's withered hand.
"Our entire village has only about a hundred people, and recently at least ten have already perished there. If this continues, we will have no choice but to leave this place where we have lived and been raised for decades!"
"This little girl is..." The old village chief turned around and kindly advised, "Little girl, why don't you come inside with us to rest? Your brother can handle anything."
"It's alright, Grandpa, don't underestimate her, she's very clever!" Ling Tianyu said with a smile.
"Grandpa, could you please tell me in detail what you know, such as when you first discovered that people were dying, and where the demons mainly operate and when they are active..." Lingling asked very professionally.
"Okay!" The village chief nodded and continued, "The earliest time of disappearance should be about a month ago. Old Xu from our village went out to sea to fish as usual, and there was no news of him for several days. We tried to search for him, but all our efforts were in vain. Since then, people have been disappearing every few days, and so far more than a dozen people have lost their lives."
"Then... is there any pattern to their disappearances?" Ling Tianyu asked.
"Yes! We've discovered that they've mostly disappeared near Rocky Island. That island used to be our paradise, with a high density and quality of fish, a vital pillar for our survival. Lately, for some reason, not only are large fish hard to find, but small fish are also scarce. Coupled with the recent disappearances of fishermen, I suspect there are demons on that island, but we don't know what kind they are..."
"Lingling, do you have any thoughts?" Ling Tianyu asked.
"It seems that some demons have turned this place into a canteen, first preying on the creatures of this sea area, and then setting their sights on humans who have more meat," Lingling said solemnly.
"Grandpa, has anyone here seen the size of that demon?"
"I think I saw someone from afar, who could it be... Oh, Old Li!" The village chief called out to the side, "Old Li, come here, I need to talk to you!"
"They're here!" An elderly man, around fifty years old, came out of a solid wood house to the left of the three. He first nodded kindly to Ling Tianyu and his companion, then said impatiently to the village chief, "Old Rong, what's the matter? Speak quickly!"
"Didn't you see a dark shadow on Rocky Island three days ago when you went out to sea to fish? Why don't you tell the Master right away!"
"That dark figure..." The man in his fifties, known as Old Li, couldn't help but shudder.
"It's the largest monster I've ever seen, bar none! When it stands upright, it's as tall as two adults, and it's extremely robust. Its shape has something like a fish's dorsal fin, and it seems to have claws. And what's more, its feet are huge! If I hadn't been so observant, I probably wouldn't have seen you all!" Old Li said, still shaken.
"Young men, I see you're not very old, so you'd better not get involved in this mess. Don't risk your lives here!" Old Li kindly advised.
"Don't worry, now that I'm here, there's no reason for me to back down halfway! I'm a mid-level mage, so you can rest assured!" Ling Tianyu said, revealing his mid-level plant-type star map.
"So young, and already at the intermediate level?" The two exchanged a glance, both seeing extreme shock in each other's eyes.
This young man in front of me looks like he just graduated from high school, yet he can already wield mid-level power?
"Alright, in that case, we'll take you there. That guy usually moves around in the morning and afternoon when the sun isn't too strong, and he generally stays on Rocky Island to rest at noon. It's safer for us to go now," Old Li nodded and said.
"Lingling, are you coming with us or staying in the fishing village...?" Ling Tianyu asked.
"I'm not a child, of course I have to go too!" Lingling said, adjusting her sun hat with an air of maturity.
"Besides, I'm well-equipped; ordinary warriors and demons can't do anything to me!"
"Alright!" Old Bao knew very well how much he doted on this granddaughter. She had at least a dozen or more pieces of good equipment on her, including many defensive magical items that could be triggered automatically.
It's fair to say that, in terms of sheer survival skills, Lingling is far superior to Ling Tianyu!
"Please wait a moment, I'll go prepare the fishing boat we need for going out to sea," Old Li explained.
…………
Of course, this small fishing village couldn't possibly provide Ling Tianyu and his group with any fancy ships. The "boat" Old Li prepared was, strictly speaking, similar to the small wooden boats used by the local indigenous people in the Amazon River basin, about one meter wide and four or five meters long, making Ling Tianyu wonder if the boat might capsize halfway through the journey...
In short, it's no wonder that few residents of this small village can escape unscathed after encountering demons. With just this small boat, even a slave-level demon could easily set sail with a little effort.
Currently, Ling Tianyu's naval combat is indeed a major problem. He is at a disadvantage in sea battles due to his plant-based, curse-based, mind-based, and spatial abilities. He himself is not very confident that he can eliminate the demons.
…………
"The esteemed mage has set sail!"
"He can definitely help us get rid of this harmful stench!"
Children often have an inexplicable trust in magicians, believing that demons are no match for them.
The claim in textbooks that humanity is the ruler of this world is nothing but self-comfort.
Adults are unwilling to shatter their fleeting, beautiful illusions, and the harsh realities facing humanity can only be discovered by themselves as they grow up.
