Chapter 6
Reunion
Chi Yuan saw Jiang Haochen again a month later, by which time his manager had changed to Sister Hong.
Hongjie didn't want to accept him at first, but somehow Chang Lei managed to get her to agree.
Chi Yuan wanted to develop his career in this industry. He had changed agents and wanted to make a good impression on them, so when Sister Hong told him to dress up and come to the Crown Hotel, he obediently came.
He didn't have much money, and his clothes weren't designer brands, but he had a good figure, so as long as the clothes weren't bad quality, they all looked good on him. When Sister Hong saw him, she was very satisfied.
If this child in front of me is obedient, he has the potential to succeed.
"Sister Hong," Chi Yuan greeted her politely.
Hongjie is a woman in her thirties, of average appearance but with a great demeanor: "When Chang Lei asked me to take you under my wing, I didn't want to."
Chi Yuan pursed his lips and remained silent.
Hong Jie continued, "I've learned some things about what happened between you and Chang Lei. It's good that a newcomer knows how to protect himself, but with this precedent, I'm also very afraid that I might become the next Chang Lei."
Chi Yuan looked at Sister Hong: "Sister Hong, would you drug the artists under your management?"
Sister Hong: "I wouldn't do something so despicable, but I'm not exactly a saint either. You may not like the unspoken rules, but there are plenty of them in this industry. As my artist, you'll encounter them too, but I won't force you."
Chi Yuan's expression softened: "As long as you don't force me."
Seeing Chi Yuan's response, Sister Hong thought he was someone who could be taught: "Sit down, I'll take you to meet a director, so do your best later."
director?
Chi Yuan asked, "Which director?"
Sister Hong: "He's a new director, but he has a powerful background. He's currently investing in a film, so try to get a role."
Chi Yuan thought to himself, shouldn't one read the script first before trying to get a role? But then he thought, what director would possibly look at someone as insignificant as me? Sister Hong brought me here just to make me known.
He was a little nervous because he hadn't been to this kind of event often before.
"Knock knock".
Sister Hong immediately stood up and greeted him with a radiant smile: "Director Yang."
"Sorry I'm late."
"No, no, we just arrived too." Sister Hong said as she introduced them, "This is the artist I recommended to you, Chi Yuan."
It's him!
Chi Yuan had met this person before; he was a stranger he had met once on set. He never expected that he was actually the director.
"Hello, Director, I'm Chi Yuan." Chi Yuan didn't expect the other party to still remember him.
Director Yang extended his hand to Chi Yuan and said, "Hello, I'm Yang Ling."
Chi Yuan had no choice but to reach out and shake hands with the other person. The moment their palms touched, Chi Yuan felt the other person gently pinch him.
Chi Yuan was taken aback and looked at the other person's expression, but the other person had already turned around and started chatting with Sister Hong.
Chi Yuan then realized that he had been overthinking things.
For the next twenty minutes, the three of them talked about the new drama. Director Yang discussed his script, Sister Hong recommended Chi Yuan's acting skills, and Director Yang said that there were indeed suitable roles for Chi Yuan, but they would also need to consider the producer's opinion. Chi Yuan simply sat to the side the whole time, only occasionally interjecting a word.
Soon after, Director Yang had to leave, but he said he would give Chi Yuan a chance to audition for the second male lead.
The second male lead, Chi Yuan, has never had such an important role since he entered the industry.
He was somewhat agitated.
The private room was empty. Sister Hong asked Chi Yuan, "Do you want this role?"
Chi Yuan nodded excitedly: "I will do my best to prepare for the audition."
Hongjie suddenly chuckled, "Didn't you notice at all?"
Chi Yuan was puzzled. What did he see?
Sister Hong: "Whether this role is yours or not, the audition is not important. The key is whether you want it or not."
Chi Yuan instantly understood: "You miss me, but Director Yang isn't that kind of person. He didn't say that at all."
At least he didn't hear it.
Sister Hong said speechlessly, "Who says something like that so bluntly? I'm asking you, have you seen him before?"
Chi Yuan was stunned.
Sister Hong: "Why do you think it's such a coincidence that I found a role with a director you've met? It's because he took a liking to you first."
Chi Yuan's face turned deathly pale.
Sister Hong continued, "I'm not afraid to tell you, the reason I changed my mind and took you on is because of Yang Ling. Although Yang Ling is a new director, he has powerful backers. If you work with him, even if you don't become famous in his movies, he can still get you into other movies."
Chi Yuanmu's face was blank, his hands clenched tightly.
Sister Hong: "Compared to Wang Ming, Yang Ling's looks and figure are definitely a good deal for you. Just think of it as a short-lived romance."
But there's only one person I want to be in a relationship with.
Seeing that Chi Yuan remained silent and didn't urge him, Sister Hong knew that taking this step would require a mental struggle: "I've said it before, I won't force you. Here's the room key. If you've thought it through, go upstairs by yourself before ten o'clock. If you haven't, we'll pretend today's events never happened, but it will be difficult for you to get ahead again."
After saying that, Sister Hong got up and left without lingering.
Inside the private room, only Chi Yuan remained, along with a table full of untouched food and drinks.
Before 10 o'clock, Chi Yuan glanced at the time and realized there was only half an hour left.
This half hour will determine his fate in the entertainment industry.
Chi Yuan opened his phone, tapped on the photo album, and looked at the various photos of Jiang Haochen he had collected, flipping through them one by one. Suddenly, he understood.
Sure enough, he still only wanted to date Jiang Haochen.
Chi Yuan let out a long breath, then picked up his chopsticks and devoured all the delicious dishes that had been neglected on the table. By the time he finished eating, it was already past ten o'clock.
He got up and left the private room, took the room key to the front desk, and left the key there.
Behind him, Jiang Haochen had just come down from a dinner party and was a little tired. He planned to check into a room at the front desk to rest and happened to see Chi Yuan returning the room key.
With Chi Yuan's income, it's impossible for him to afford a hotel like this, so there's only one possibility for this room key: someone else has their eye on him.
Indeed, he does have a very appealing appearance. This is yet another rejection, but how many times can he keep up with this kind of rejection?
Jiang Haochen seemed to see a future where a clean young man would eventually be tainted by this industry.
"Ah Chen, is the room ready?" Cui Dong came downstairs, reeking of alcohol.
Jiang Haochen was about to reply when he suddenly heard the front desk clerk communicating via walkie-talkie: "A guest needs a shuttle bus, please arrange it."
The Crown Hotel is a manor hotel, and it's a ten-minute drive from the main entrance to the hotel lobby. To provide a better stay experience for guests, taxis are not allowed inside, but most guests who choose to stay here own their own cars.
The shuttle bus is only provided for very rare situations, and the passenger who just went out was only one person.
Chi Yuan, and Chi Yuan doesn't have a car.
"I have other things to do, you can stay here by yourself." Jiang Haochen quickly left the hotel.
