Chapter 44
Clan Chief
A wide tunnel then appeared before the tribesmen.
Uchiha Gen followed beside the Grand Elder, standing at the front of the line, and slowly entered the tunnel.
At the end of the tunnel was the secret chamber where clan meetings were held.
The secret chamber was quite spacious, more than enough to accommodate these enlightened clansmen, but it was still not as large as the main hall of the Nanga Shrine outside.
When the crowd is gathered, the view is much clearer than when they are scattered outside.
Throughout the entire Uchiha clan, there are approximately two hundred members who have awakened their Sharingan. Among them, there are about thirty Jonin Uchiha who have awakened the three-tomoe Sharingan.
The entire Hidden Leaf Village currently has no more than two hundred Jonin, so you can imagine how valuable these thirty-odd Jonin from the Uchiha clan are.
In the ninja world, the only ninja clan that can rival the Uchiha in the number of Jonin is the Hyuga clan, which is also a top-tier clan in the ninja world.
The key point is that Uchiha with Sharingan are generally stronger than ninjas of the same level. Uchiha with three-tomoe Sharingan only need to hone their eye power and be able to skillfully use the series of abilities of the three-tomoe Sharingan. Not every one of them can become an elite Jonin, but they all exceed the average level of Jonin.
Clan leader Uchiha Hisasu sat at the head of the table, his face sharp and chiseled, his eyes gleaming with a sharp light.
The First Elder sat at the head of the first row below, with Uchiha Yu on his side and the Third Elder, Uchiha Hai, on his side.
The three elders are the second-highest level of management in the clan after the clan leader. The eldest elder holds the highest position, in charge of the clan's education and inheritance and resource allocation. He has the power to enforce clan rules and is the clan leader's deputy in managing clan affairs. The second elder is the clan leader's deputy in the police department, while the third elder is responsible for other matters, such as the clan's external intelligence channels, business operations, and internal production.
Seeing that everyone had arrived, Uchiha Hisasu, who was sitting at the head of the table, immediately spoke:
"This month, the clan has gained one new member who has awakened the Sharingan: Uchiha Gen."
Uchiha Gen, who was sitting at the very end of the last row, suddenly stood up, opened his single-tomoe Sharingan, and showed it to all his clansmen.
"I hope that you will live up to the family's expectations and use your eyes to protect the glory of the Uchiha clan."
"Uchiha Hisasu said in a deep voice."
"Yes, Chieftain."
Uchiha Gen bowed slightly.
"Okay, sit down."
For him, this clan gathering was simply a chance to show his face in front of his clansmen and let them know that there was one clansman who had awakened the Sharingan.
After this clan gathering, thanks to his Sharingan, he will be able to receive a monthly subsidy from the clan.
As a powerful clan, the Uchiha were naturally wealthy and generous, and they were never stingy with their members who awakened the Sharingan.
The difference between clan ninjas and ordinary ninjas is multifaceted, and not limited to ninjutsu and bloodline inheritance.
The clan meeting is still ongoing:
"...Two people's Sharingan have evolved. In particular, Jonin Uchiha Yama has evolved to three tomoe and has submitted an application for promotion to Jonin to the Third Hokage. Chunin Uchiha Yo also evolved to two tomoe during a mission the day before yesterday."
A young Uchiha man and a girl who looked slightly older than Uchiha Mikoto stood up and showed their newly evolved Sharingan to the clan members, going through the proper procedures.
"Clan assets' experience profit this month..."
The personnel changes within the Police Department are as follows…
Uchiha Gen sat below somewhat idly, listening for a while before starting to space out.
The matters being discussed at the clan meeting were irrelevant to him until the topic of the meeting shifted to war.
"Since the start of this Shinobi World War, the Third Hokage has prioritized the safety of Konoha and has repeatedly refused the police department's requests to participate in the war. A small number of clan members who are not affiliated with the police department have also not received orders to participate in the war."
Looking at the vast group of elite Uchiha before him, Uchiha Hisasu spoke:
"However, due to the incident the other day in which the Kumogakure delegation attempted to kidnap important figures in the village, all members of the delegation are currently being held captive. The village's leadership anticipates that the war with Kumogakure will escalate further and that they will face pressure due to a shortage of manpower, so they have agreed to the police department's request to participate in the war."
The tribesmen below, who had been silent, suddenly erupted in uproar.
The calls for help were incessant.
The Uchiha clan, possessing the Sharingan, has always been the most adaptable to war, the most eager for it, and the most enjoyable of battle.
Uchiha Hisasu turned his gaze to the elder, Uchiha Gen.
The latter nodded slightly to indicate understanding, then said loudly in an aged voice:
"quiet!"
As the eldest elder of the Uchiha clan, who was the most senior and had the deepest battle achievements, he was very prestigious within the clan. Most of the Uchiha present had heard of the eldest elder's name since birth.
In addition, his authority over the clan's criminal law and clan rules gave him a certain degree of authority.
The commotion quickly subsided under the guidance of the Grand Elder.
The elder tapped the ground with his cane.
"Listen to the clan leader."
Uchiha Gen sat cross-legged at the back, watching this scene with a thoughtful look in his eyes.
It seems that Uchiha Hisasu, the clan head, doesn't have much prestige within the clan and needs the help of Uchiha Gen, a highly accomplished elder, to barely keep the clan members in check.
That's true. They all have the three-tomoe Sharingan. You, Uchiha Hisasu, have neither awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan nor are you a Kage-level powerhouse. You don't have the strength to subdue other clan members of similar strength. How could the other arrogant Uchiha possibly submit to you?
It seems that Uchiha Hisasu's position as clan leader is precarious; at the very least, he cannot control all his clansmen.
"However, the number of participants is limited, and the clan cannot send every member to the battlefield. In addition, the normal work of the police department cannot be stopped. This is the basic premise for the clan's ninjas to participate in the war."
"Uchiha Hisasu said in a deep voice."
"Now, those clansmen who are not currently part of the police force but have received war deployment orders, rise."
Of the more than two hundred Uchiha, only a dozen or so clansmen stood up.
The police department is full of Uchiha, and most of the Uchiha who have awakened their Sharingan are in it, but that doesn't mean that all Uchiha have joined the police department.
Uchiha Gen was also among these dozen or so clansmen.
Orochimaru had already informed them in the morning that the squad had been incorporated into the strategic support force heading towards the Land of Rain, to serve as a second-line unit.
Although we certainly won't be going to those dangerous places to carry out missions, it's still part of the war front, just not on the very front lines.
"Next, Elder Er will read out the list of frontline combat personnel arranged by the Elders' Meeting."
"Yes, Chieftain."
Uchiha Yu stood up, took out a form, and began to read aloud:
"The following clansmen are hereby temporarily relieved of their duties in the police department and will be deployed to the front lines as combatants."
