Chapter 24

We Are Underground

The route to the farm is a regular one. These pig transport trucks make several round trips every day to deliver the pork to the pre-cooked vegetable processing plant in the city.

Once you leave the abandoned city area, you'll find yourself in the vast wilderness.

There was only one bumpy asphalt road, with lush grasslands and forests on both sides.

"We have now entered a high-risk zone. Please do not stick your heads out of the cage."

The machine guns on the drones were also in place.

Although martial artists don't like carrying guns, their combat tools are generally equipped with firearms, which are sufficient for suppressing fire, especially when dealing with some low-level alien beasts.

"This thing won't kill us, will it?"

Soon, everyone noticed that holes could be seen from time to time along the roadside, some as large as three or four meters in diameter and others as small as forty or fifty centimeters.

The closer you get to the farm, the more densely packed the burrows become.

The students watched with trepidation, thinking about having to work on the farm for the rest of their lives, living in constant fear, and couldn't help but envy Yang Ding even more.

"What's in there?"

"Don't peek out. The enforcement team has deployed so many drones to protect us; isn't their intention obvious?"

"I've heard that people often go missing at the farm."

"What do you mean missing? They must have been dragged into this cave and eaten by a monster."

The farm is not far from the city, only half an hour's drive away. It is located outside mainly for hygiene reasons; otherwise, given the population density in the city, the stench would be unbearable.

If swine fever were to break out, all the ordinary people in Jiangling City would suffer.

Soon, a giant building complex appeared before everyone's eyes.

The Jiangling breeding farm has 200 buildings, each 50 stories high. 80 of them are used for raising chickens, 110 for raising pigs, and 10 for slaughtering and processing plants. There are connecting corridors between each building.

The farm has a very advanced breeding system, and electricity is mainly supplied by biogas digesters.

Students from the pig farming department were assigned to help out in buildings 1 through 20, with 750 students in each building.

Yang Ding and Hu Feng's group were assigned to Building 9.

Xiang Bin got out of the car and shouted to the students, "Take your luggage and go straight to the pigsty to work. For the next five days, you will be eating and sleeping with the sows and piglets. Be on your best. If anyone is negligent and causes the piglets to die, I guarantee you will regret it for the rest of your life with my ruler."

Yang Ding noticed with his sharp eyes that his ruler had been changed; it now had a leather sheath and the wooden handle sticking out.

Clearly, this is not an ordinary steel ruler; it is most likely a knife or sword.

Hu Feng originally wanted to keep his distance from Yang Ding and not work on the same floor, but Xiang Bin specially arranged for the two of them to work together.

Hu Feng was filled with unease. Even the sound of Xiang Bin's footsteps could send chills down his spine and make him break out in a cold sweat.

Yang Ding knew exactly what this guy was up to.

Everyone put their luggage on the rack and started working.

There were already many staff members assisting with births on site, their faces expressionless as they mechanically went about their tasks.

No one was whispering or chatting, because there were surveillance cameras inside, and anyone caught doing so would be punished.

The oppressive atmosphere made Yang Ding realize once again how wise Ye Rou was to let him enter the martial arts academy.

This godforsaken place is no place for humans.

After everyone was in place, Xiang Bin glanced at his watch.

"It's 10 a.m. now. You'll work until 10 a.m. tomorrow before you can rest. You'll sleep at the entrance of the pigsty and take turns getting up to stand guard."

"Everyone has 30 minutes of toilet time per day. They have to apply for permission each time. If they exceed the time limit, they have to defecate and clean themselves in the pigpen."

After saying that, he found a quiet room and went to sleep.

Because more than 10,000 students from Gangneung University came to help with the delivery, the law enforcement team strengthened security at the farm and dispatched a full 800 law enforcement officers to patrol.

Fang Dalong was naturally among them. He and seven colleagues formed a group and patrolled back and forth continuously.

This group consists of one earth-type ability user, one fire-type ability user, one metal-type ability user, and four martial arts-type users.

The farm is surrounded by a ten-meter-high wall, and the barbed wire on the wall is electrified. The security here is almost as strict as that of a prison.

"High-voltage electricity is usually fine for dealing with ordinary monsters, but these White Walkers can burrow underground and will never climb up."

"If we can't find their lair in Jiangling City, we'll never be able to wipe them out. They're as cunning as fucking gophers," Fang Dalong replied.

"It's strange, even with the situation so dire, the governor won't let everyone quickly explore the lair and find the Queen of Ghosts' habitat."

Fang Dalong's team patrolled until 10 p.m. before they got off work. They had temporary dormitories and slept fairly comfortably.

Remembering Ye Rou and her sister's instructions, Fang Dalong tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

After thinking it over, I got up with a yawn and prepared to go to Building 9 to check on Yangding's situation.

When Fang Dalong arrived at Building No. 9, he found that the building was teetering on the verge of collapse.

He thought he was just too sleepy and his eyes were blurry, so he rubbed his eyes a few times.

That's right, Building 9 was indeed shaking, and students could be heard crying for help from inside.

"Holy crap, did they dig up the foundation?"

As Fang Dalong spoke, he rushed toward the gate.

boom!

A deafening roar shook the earth.

The entire Building 9, a giant structure reaching a height of 180 meters, has sunk underground.

Fang Dalong, who was originally as insignificant as an ant, can now reach the rooftop with just one step.

The red alert at the farm was blaring, and soon hundreds of law enforcement officers rushed over.

Captain Zhao Hu arrived immediately and was so frightened by the horrific scene before him that he remained silent for a long time.

"Boss, what should we do?"

"Send a distress call to headquarters and mobilize all A-level and above earth-type ability users in the city, including instructors from Jiangling University, to see if we can pull the building out. We need to be quick."

"Captain, should we go in?" Fang Dalong asked.

Zhao Hu quickly shook his head, "Those beasts must have dug an astonishing number of holes to be able to dig such a big and deep one. Going down there rashly would be suicide."

"But there are thousands of living people inside."

"Save your own life first, don't bother me," Zhao Hu roared.

Building No. 9, which had sunk underground, had its emergency doors locked instantly, and the emergency power supply was activated.

But many windows were shattered, and the monsters could get in at any time.

Xiang Bin, still half asleep, got up from the ground and looked at the students running around in confusion.

When he turned to look out the window, he found only a mud wall with water dripping from it into the house.

"Where am I? What's going on?"

"Counselor, we're underground."

"Underground?"

Xiang Bin felt a chill run down his spine.

He just took a nap, how did he end up in the underworld?

The distress call from the farm quickly reached Jiangling University.

The person on duty who answered the phone today happened to be a martial arts instructor, Ye Rou's colleague, who also relayed the matter to Ye Rou.

Ye Rou panicked on the spot, rushed to the room, opened the wardrobe, and after facial recognition, took out her Soul-Severing Spear, worth five million, from the safe.

She put on a black leather jacket and combat boots, disregarding her pregnancy, and sprinted from the rooftop, leaping a thousand meters into the air.

She performed a clean front flip at a height of 1,000 meters, landing on a rooftop two kilometers away.

Then he leaped forward, and with a flick of his right hand, the metal rod, which was originally three feet long, popped out of its concealed gun barrel with a clicking mechanical sound, instantly becoming two meters long.
