Chapter 99

Go take his temperature.

Inside the elevator, Mao Jian fiddled with the forehead thermometer and suddenly asked, "Are you guys wearing bras?"

Huang Bingbing gave him a speechless eye roll.

"Is this something we can even talk about?"

"I wore a women's one, it's so hot, and there's no ventilation at all," Sun Li replied.

She spoke very seriously, but the other boys didn't take it seriously at all; some even had impure thoughts.

Of the seven new students who joined Yang Ding's team, four were boys, and all came from well-off families.

Some had parents working in law enforcement, while others were soldiers in the northern border region; naturally, they became Sun Li's prey.

Sun Li is currently striving for the highest level, surpassing many students in the second-tier class. All the high-quality resources she has access to are obtained through her sexual encounters.

"Wearing it won't help. The parasites can kill you first, then rip off your bras."

After Yang Ding finished speaking, the elevator reached the 200th floor.

This floor houses 500 people in 250 rooms, all of whom are newlywed couples. Each room is only 15 square meters.

Since the group only had one forehead thermometer, the others were mainly responsible for knocking on doors, while Mao Jian and Sun Li were responsible for taking temperatures.

Yang Ding and Huang Bingbing guarded both sides of the corridor.

As required by the law enforcement bureau, anyone with a body temperature below 35 degrees Celsius should be closely monitored.

Fifteen households were quickly woken up.

"Everyone, including children, stood at the door to have their temperature checked."

Seeing that these people were all carrying weapons, the residents did not dare to be careless and obediently stepped forward.

Soon a girl recognized Mao Jian.

"Hey, Mao Jian, you've really made something of yourself now, working for the law enforcement team?"

"Yeah, he got accepted into the martial arts academy, so this is what he'll be doing from now on. What about my brother Song?"

"He's taking a cold shower in the bathroom, go in and take his measurements."

After Mao Jian went to the bathroom to take his temperature, the girl said, "Have you heard? There was a guy on our farm who died. They say his brain was sucked out."

"When?" Mao Jian stopped what he was doing.

"The body was found in the barn just yesterday."

"Has the enforcement team investigated?"

"The body has been taken for an autopsy, but there has been no investigation yet."

"I suspect we're short-staffed. Which farm is it?"

"Farm No. 55"

Mao Jian pulled Yang Ding aside and whispered, "Brother Ding, Farm No. 55 is in this building, and that parasite should also be in this building."

Yang Ding agreed with his view, because the parasites could not stay away from the human body for too long, otherwise they would die.

"Take your temperature carefully. It's hot now, and it's easy to miss it while you're chatting like this."

"Okay."

After hearing that there was at least one parasite in the building, everyone became nervous.

After measuring all the residents on the 200th floor for nearly an hour, they found nothing.

"Brother Ding, at this rate, we won't be able to finish in a week."

"Tomorrow, have Huang Bingbing find a way to get 10 more forehead thermometers. We'll work together, otherwise it'll be too slow."

"Bingbing is indeed incredibly influential."

By the time the group reached the 192nd floor, it was almost midnight, and they still hadn't found anything; it was time to leave work.

Yang Ding found the intercom system next to the elevator.

"Security, security, please open the elevator, we need to go downstairs."

He repeated it three or four times before he heard the child's voice coming from the intercom system.

"Hehe, elevator, elevator."

"Damn, that laughter is really creepy in the middle of the night," Mao Jian said.

"Little friend, is your dad asleep?" Yang Ding asked. "I'll ask him to get up and open the elevator."

"Daddy, get up! Daddy, get up!"

Just as Yang Ding was wondering whether he should take the stairs down, the elevator doors opened.

When we got to the first floor, the security guard from before was wearing a mask and standing in the security room, smiling and waving at everyone.

"Let's go, we'll come back tomorrow night," Mao Jian called out.

"Okay, okay, thank you for your hard work, students."

Yang got on the bicycle, rode for less than a hundred meters, and then stopped.

"Was the security guard not wearing a mask when we arrived?"

"Yes, but we took his temperature, and it's fine," Mao Jian replied.

"He's about to sleep, and the security room is completely sealed off, why would he wear a mask?"

"Just him and his son."

"Yes, it's him and his son."

"But his son's laughter is truly terrifying."

Yang Ding still felt something was wrong, so he turned around and rode back.

"Just in case, let's go check it out."

"Holy crap, bro, how did you manage to create such a spooky atmosphere?"

The security guard, who was about to lock the door, saw that the group had returned. Instead of opening the door to greet them, he quickly closed it.

Unfortunately, Yang Ding was faster than him, and pushed the door open in one swift step.

The security guard who was knocked to the ground was somewhat annoyed.

"What are you doing? Aren't you off work?"

"I forgot something."

"What is it? Where is it?"

"It's on the 197th floor. Can you help us go up and get it?" Yang Ding asked.

"Go get it yourselves, what does it have to do with me?"

The security guard was about to return to the security room when Mao Jian grabbed him and took his temperature.

"Beep! Body temperature 37.5 degrees Celsius, low-grade fever."

"Call your child out and measure him too," Mao Jian said.

The security guard immediately became agitated and shoved Mao Jian aside.

"Weren't you going to get something? Why are you taking your temperatures?"

"The enforcement team can measure whatever they want; you have to cooperate."

"I only work here and don't live in this building, so it's not your place to take my temperature."

"Why are you panicking?" Yang Ding asked, staring at him. "What happened to your son?"

He put his hands behind his back and gestured to his teammates, instructing them to block all the exits on the first floor.

"My son is fine, he's asleep."

"Why did you go in to take my temperature if I was asleep?"

The security guard took a short knife from a drawer in the room and confronted Mao Jian.

"Who knows who you are? None of you are allowed in."

Enraged, Mao Jian kicked him to the ground, saying, "You're asking for it."

He rushed into the security room, which contained only a bunk bed and was completely empty.

"Where's your son? Where's that other kid?"

"Mao Jian, look under the bed," Yang Ding reminded him.

He drew his black gold sword and strode over.

Mao Jian turned on his flashlight and looked down under the bed.

A little boy, about seven or eight years old, was pressed against the bed frame, his eyes bloodshot, looking at him with a half-smile.

Sudden.

Mao Jian felt the standard-issue knife on his back suddenly unsheathed and slash towards his neck.

Fortunately, Yang Ding arrived in time and used a sweeping sword technique to knock the knife away.

Mao Jian's knife struck the wall and then turned back towards Yang Ding.

The iron frames of the bunk beds were dismantled, forming a protective barrier in front of the children.

"Metal-based superpowers," Huang Bingbing blurted out.

"Release my father, and we'll pretend nothing happened. Otherwise, you'll all die."

Yang Ding was somewhat surprised, "You actually know how to defend your father?"

Mao Jian had already become a father, so he felt compassion.

"Brother Ding, do you think he's been parasitized, or is he a genius metal-type ability user?"

"Go over there and take his temperature."

"Why don't you go?"
