Chapter 1
Matthew
"Wake up, drink the medicine."
While unconscious, Li Fan vaguely heard the voice of an unfamiliar young man.
He moved his body, and a sharp pain immediately spread throughout his entire body.
"It hurts! It hurts so much!!!"
Li Fan felt as if his body was about to fall apart from the pain.
"What's wrong with me? Why does my body hurt so much...?"
In his daze, his memories pieced together in fragments.
"Oh right, I think I was in a car accident."
He remembered it as an ordinary night.
After working overtime, he was dragging his tired body home to get a good night's sleep.
But just as I was crossing the road, a large truck suddenly appeared out of nowhere and charged straight at me.
The two headlights on the front of the car were particularly dazzling in the dark night, instantly waking him up.
But it was too late; he couldn't dodge in time and crashed into the truck.
Just as his memories were racing through his mind, that unfamiliar male voice came again.
"The effect of medicine will decrease if it is left for too long after it has been opened."
Li Fan felt dizzy and lightheaded, and it took all his strength to barely open his eyes a crack.
My vision was blurred, but I could vaguely make out the white ceiling.
He breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness I survived. Am I in a hospital?"
He struggled to turn his eyes, and through the narrow slits, he saw a blurry figure.
"It's actually a male nurse, that's quite rare."
"I wonder if the insurance company can fully reimburse the medical expenses..."
"And another year, my perfect attendance record is ruined again..."
"But it's good that you're alive. Those who survive a great calamity are sure to have good fortune in the future."
"Matthew, did you hear that?"
"Um?"
"Is Matthew calling me?"
"Wait, what language is this?"
Li Fan was surprised to find that he had never heard this language before.
Strangely, he could understand the meaning behind the young man's words.
Something's wrong!!!
"He doesn't look like he's wearing a nurse's uniform!"
Li Fan suddenly opened his eyes, and the outline of the young man gradually became clear in his field of vision.
He stared blankly at the young man in the gray robe with freckles on his face.
"I...time traveled?"
Just as this thought flashed through his mind, a jumble of chaotic memories forcefully flooded into his mind.
"wizard?"
"The Tidal School..."
"The Realm of Winter?"
Li Fan felt a splitting headache. He pressed his head, which was almost filled with memories, and finally understood why he was here.
The original name was Matthew Claire.
He was a novice in the Tidal School.
Ten years ago, the Tidal School accidentally discovered a plane coordinate called the Winter Realm.
This plane belongs to a low-level world, and the Tidal School, together with three other major schools, successfully invaded it without much effort.
After completing the infrastructure construction in the Frosty Realm, the Academy urgently needs a large number of pioneers to explore the land.
Matthew was deemed an apprentice lacking potential because he failed the school's assessment.
At this critical juncture, he was naturally sent to the Winter Realm as a "special talent".
Although the Winter Realm is only a low-level world, its snow never melts, as if it were imprisoned by eternal extreme cold.
Furthermore, various bloodthirsty monsters roam the area, each of which is deadly to a novice apprentice like Matthew.
Many of the apprentices who were sent with him have died in the process of pioneering.
A month ago, he met by chance a high-level apprentice who came here from the main world to train.
The apprentice had a way to arrange some safe pioneering work for Matthew, but in exchange for completing a research project for her.
Although he knew there was danger, Matthew agreed anyway because he wanted to take a gamble.
He wasn't clear on the specifics of the research; his daily routine consisted of drinking a sedative and then lying on the experimental table. Initially, after several experiments, his body gradually became stronger.
Matthew thought he was a lucky guy.
However, he fell into a deep sleep on the lab table again that day.
Upon waking up, the body had a new owner.
"You're awake?"
The young man's words were like a large hand forcibly pulling Li Fan's thoughts back.
Looking at the young man's face, Matthew's memories flashed by, and a name popped into his mind.
"Todd? How did I get here?"
"When I passed by the garbage dump, I found you lying there. I saw that you still had a faint breath, so I carried you back."
"Your condition was very bad at the time; I thought you were going to die."
Li Fan remained silent; in fact, Matthew was already dead.
"I can't believe you managed to pull through, that's amazing."
"Do you remember Elisa? She's the girl who's good at fire elemental magic."
"She went missing while on a mission some time ago. Later, her remains were found in the forest. Her death was horrific; it is said that only half of her face was intact."
"And Yorick, while he was clearing the monster cave..."
Todd recounted what had happened during this period.
Hearing familiar names, even though Matthew didn't know them now, he couldn't help but feel heavy-hearted.
This is a world with extraordinary powers, filled with all sorts of strange, dangerous creatures and unknown phenomena.
Death is commonplace here.
"I wonder how long we can hold out..."
Todd did not continue speaking.
"Drink the medicine and get some rest."
……
After closing the door, Li Fan, or rather Matthew, lay alone on the bed.
Snow was falling outside, and the white snow covered the rooftops.
The cold air seeped in through the cracks in the house.
Although he was wrapped tightly in the blanket, Matthew didn't feel much warmth at that moment.
He looked at the familiar yet unfamiliar room and fell into deep thought.
I wonder how heartbroken his parents will be when they find out the news.
"Mom will cry her eyes out."
"As for Dad..."
"He'll probably hide away and cry."
"..."
After a long while, Matthew chuckled dejectedly.
However, there is some good news: the 30-year mortgage payment is finally waived.
At that moment, countless thoughts flashed through Matthew's mind.
"Why."
I opened my eyes to find myself in the wizarding world, where even survival was a problem.
I'd rather go back to the company and be a beast of burden...
In the Realm of Winter, these novice apprentices who were "exiled" here were like cannon fodder, nothing more than expendable resources.
What should we do next?
escape?
In this frozen world, where can I escape to with my small body?
Unless they can escape back to the main world, but the teleportation array is guarded by a level one wizard...
Sit and wait to die?
Having just transmigrated here, am I going to die again?
Completely clueless, Matthew looked at the white medicine placed beside the bed.
"Drink the medicine first."
He struggled to reach out his right hand to grab the medicine.
However, due to his extremely weak condition, his hands trembled so much that he could barely hold them steady.
"Damn it!"
The liquid in the test tube kept shaking, and a pungent smell wafted over, reminiscent of disinfectant from a past life.
Just as Matthew was about to tilt his head back and drink it down.
Suddenly, a series of notification sounds rang in my mind.
