Chapter 15: The Final Circle Has a Voldemort
"Dwarf, you're done for!"
Singrev's attacks became increasingly spaced out, and his engagements with his opponent gradually shifted from offensive to defensive.
Leopold, however, entered an abnormal state of excitement, wielding his saber with a fluttering wind, completely disregarding the wear and tear on his weapon. He swung, slashed, and stabbed with abandon, forcing the dwarf to parry and leaving him no chance to unleash an explosion.
Mr. Aller, knowing his limitations, did not intervene in the battle. Hill, having dealt with the situation on one side, did not remount but instead took the crossbow from his back and strung it with his foot. Then the ranger set up the crossbow, and although the dwarf and Leopold were entangled in a fight, Hill, with his height difference, boldly and accurately pulled the trigger.
The crossbow bolt flew straight towards him with tremendous momentum, and Leopold caught it with just a glance. His reaction was far beyond that of an ordinary person. He easily twirled his sword to protect his chest and skillfully deflected the ranger's attack.
"Not enough! Not enough! I, Leopold, a knight of the Empire, am not someone you scum can defeat! Even if you all came at me together, it wouldn't be enough!"
Leopold could no longer control himself and increased the force of his blow, slashing down fiercely. The impact made the dwarf who was blocking the blow feel numb in his hand, and it also made Singrev secretly startled.
The knight who had initially faced Singrev adjusted his stance and was about to help Leopold when he suddenly separated from his horse and fell to the ground.
He was held down by a huge, invisible hand, sinking into the soft riverbank soil, his chest unable to exhale properly but unable to inhale.
Ribs... are breaking...
Soon a new sensation came over him; a large hand ignited a raging fire, enveloping him completely.
"Everyone else, get out of the way!" Rorschach roared. The dwarf, the ranger, and Mr. Aller looked over and saw that the young mage's eyes and the veins on his exposed skin were glowing blue. The three of them retreated in unison.
Leopold sensed something was wrong, snapped out of his frenzied excitement, and cautiously stopped fighting the dwarf. He quickly pulled out some kind of ointment, smeared it haphazardly on his face, then rubbed it onto his longsword and charged at the mage.
"roll!"
"Magic Condensation" + "Repulsion" + "Projectile"—this time, it wasn't a hare that was sent flying, but a knight weighing hundreds of pounds and a heavily armored warhorse. Leopold was thrown backward as if he had hit a wall, flying into the water, only to be lifted up and firmly held by an invisible force.
"Is this the power of a mage?" Leopold remained calm, merely gazing into the air in awe. His years of combat experience, his martial arts skills, and the blessings and enhancements he received from Mother Earth were all utterly suppressed before the mage.
Like the previous knight, the mage's hand that gripped him transformed into a burning hand, and Leopold's skin would be carbonized in just a few seconds.
A flash of fire illuminated the shimmering river surface and the face covered in old and new wounds. The man did not use his powerful muscles to resist, nor did he pray to Mother Earth; he simply watched the madman with remarkable composure.
Then a sudden change occurred.
Thick yellow-green smoke burst from Leopold's body, spraying and spreading at an explosive speed.
"Retreat! Retreat!"
It was too late. Thick smoke billowed along the ground, instantly engulfing the entire convoy. Horses and men alike experienced rapidly blurred vision, then lost consciousness. The creatures within the area were less knocked unconscious than their consciousness was impaired by the intrusion of the smoke.
As the thick smoke dissipated, Leopold was completely unaffected. He had fallen back into the water, struggled to climb ashore, and walked to the unconscious Rorschach.
Torn outer garments, charred inner armor—the man removed them all. The last rays of the setting sun sank completely below the horizon, as if announcing the end of the battle.
The usually aloof man smiled. He had suffered many new wounds, but under the influence of Mother Earth's ointment, he could only feel the joy of victory.
"Some herbs only take effect when burned."
The monk kicked the boy, but received no response.
"Ha! Haha... Hahaha!"
On the riverbank where only one person stood, a wild, unrestrained laugh, like that of a wild beast, echoed.
boom.
The man, who had been victorious just moments before, had lost part of his head. To be precise, part of his right sphenoid bone, part of his left parietal bone, and other tissues.
Two men stood up from the hill to the side, one of them holding a shotgun—not made of gunpowder, but powered by magic, firing alchemical bullets capable of penetrating low-level defensive spells.
"After watching so much drama, I'm exhausted from lying down."
"I'll take a piss, and you can see if that kid's still breathing." One of them ran to the riverbank and started.
Another man crouched down next to Rorschach and put his finger in front of Rorschach's nostrils.
"There's gas, there's gas. The last bit of smoke should just be a strong inhaled anesthetic."
"That's interesting."
"What's the point? Oh, I need to pee too, I'm dying to pee..."
"That rider's last push was interesting. This kid can really go all out. Our boss was right about him."
At this moment, Luo Xialu's skin still glowed with a blue light. If she were to have her blood drawn now, the nurse would be able to find her vein immediately—it was glowing!
"Stop with the nonsense, come on, let's deal with this thing, and remove our footprints too. Let me think... let's finish off all those knights, and then take what's in their bags."
……
Hill was the first to wake up; she had been run over by the horse and had to struggle to her feet.
The scene was a mess under the moonlight.
There was no sign of Leopold, only a pool of congealed blood beside Rorschach. Hill approached to examine it; the blood disappeared as it reached the riverbank.
"Has he left? Did he achieve his goal?"
Thinking of this, Hill quickly checked Rorschach's breathing. Faint, but still there. Hill breathed a sigh of relief.
One by one, the other people and horses also woke up. What was terrifying was that the enemy's heavily armored warhorses were nothing but pustules of pus, and the other knights, after fainting, were mostly corroded by this pus.
There were no casualties, and no loss of goods. But Rorschach remained unconscious.
"His breathing is relatively steady, so let's not force him to wake up. I think Mage Rorschach's condition was not quite normal at the end, so he must have been very exhausted." Aller gathered the others and decided on the next plan.
"We're about to leave the cult's area of activity and head to the town. We'll reach the next town in about five days. Mage Rorschach has arranged for us to rest in the supply wagon, and his horse is in wagon number two. We've all survived this ordeal thanks to our mage. If we're still not awake by the time we get to the town, we'll go find the Magic Guild."
After the coachman returned to his post, Mr. Aller said anxiously to the two adventurers, "Did you see Leopold at the end? None of the other knights survived, but he disappeared."
"The bloodstains next to Rorschach must be Leopold's. He must have left; the bloodstains end at the riverbank."
"We beat that kid pretty badly, and he lost his horse. He shouldn't be able to cause any trouble now!"
"I hope so... Thank you everyone. With one less combatant, please be extra vigilant."
"OK."
"Don't worry, boss, if that guy who asked me to teach him comes back, I'll give him a few more whacks!"
