Chapter 663
A Death Without a Burial Place!
The mutant with the scar on his face, seeing the muscular mutant subdued, had an even more sinister look in his eyes. He waved his hands rapidly, and more black vines sprouted from the ground, wrapping around Lynn and his team, densely packed like a giant net, surrounding them.
"Quick, break these vines!" Lynn shouted, raising his hand to fire at the vines. The bullet struck the vines, snapping them instantly, but new vines sprouted endlessly. "This can't go on; we must find his weakness!"
Jason dodged the vines while observing the scarred mutant. He suddenly noticed that the mutant's eyes would become unfocused and his body would tremble slightly when manipulating the vines, as if he was expending a lot of energy. "Lynn, I've found his weakness! He needs to concentrate and it takes a lot of energy to control the vines. If we attack him now, we can definitely subdue him!"
"Alright!" Lynn nodded and shouted to his teammates, "Everyone, focus your fire and draw his attention. I'll go and subdue him!"
The team immediately concentrated their fire on the mutant with the scar on his face. Bullets whistled towards him, forcing him to focus on manipulating the vines for defense. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Lynn sidestepped, avoiding the vines, and charged towards the mutant with the scar on his face. He pointed his pistol at the mutant's chest and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
The scarred mutant was focused on manipulating the vines and had no time to dodge. The bullet struck him precisely in the chest. He let out a muffled groan, staggered back a few steps, and stopped moving his hands. The vines that were wrapped around him instantly lost their strength, collapsed to the ground, and turned into a pile of withered branches.
"Not good!" The gaunt mutant saw the scarred mutant get hit, and a flicker of panic crossed his eyes. He knew he was outnumbered and that staying would only lead to him being overpowered by Lynn and his men. He gritted his teeth and rushed towards the alleyway entrance, trying to escape.
"Don't let him get away!" Lynn shouted, raising his hand and firing at the mutant's leg. The bullet struck the mutant's calf precisely, and the mutant screamed in pain, staggering and falling to the ground, unable to escape any longer.
The battle was finally over. In the alley, the gunfire gradually subsided, leaving only the screams of the mutants and the panting of the team members. The muscular mutant knelt on the ground, covered in blood, his eyes still fierce, but unable to attack again; the scarred mutant lay on the ground, blood seeping from his chest, unconscious; the emaciated mutant, shot in the calf, lay on the ground, struggling to escape, but the team members quickly rushed forward, handcuffed him, and subdued him completely.
Lynn walked up to the gaunt mutant, squatted down, and looked at him coldly: "Tell me, are you from the Karen organization? Did Verus send you to stop us? Where is he now? Where is his secret base?"
The mutant gritted his teeth, glaring fiercely at Lynn, remaining silent and defiant. "Looks like you don't want to talk?" Lynn's tone turned icy. "No problem, we have ways to make you talk. Take him away, we'll go to the police station now and interrogate him and Marcus together. I refuse to believe we can't dig out some useful clues."
The team members immediately rushed forward, grabbed the emaciated mutant, and helped the injured team member towards the vehicle. The alley was littered with blood, broken vines, and wrecked vehicles. Passersby, terrified by the sight, scattered and fled, not daring to linger.
Soon, Lynn and his team arrived at the Honduran police headquarters with the captured mutant. Rodriguez, seeing them escorting a mutant, looked surprised and quickly approached, "Detective Lynn, what's going on? How come you've caught another mutant?"
“On our way to the police station, we were robbed by three mutants,” Lynn said calmly, without any extra emotion. “This is one of the ones we captured. The other two, one was wounded by us and the other was unconscious, and they have also been brought here. Officer Rodriguez, could you please arrange an interrogation room? We want to interrogate this mutant and Marcus ourselves. I need to know where Verus’s secret hideout is, and why there are so many mutants in Honduras.”
Rodriguez's expression instantly turned serious. He sighed and said, "Detective Lynn, you don't know this, but these mutants have only increased in number in the last year or two. Our police force is also overwhelmed by these mutants."
“Oh?” Lynn frowned. “They’ve only increased in the last year or two? Weren’t there so many mutants in Honduras before?”
“Yes,” Rodriguez nodded, a hint of helplessness in his voice. “Two years ago, mutants were almost nowhere to be seen in Honduras. Occasionally one or two would appear, but they were scattered and didn’t cause much trouble. But starting a year ago, more and more mutants have been pouring into Honduras. They mostly gather in places like La Ceva and Tegucigalpa, forming small groups that rob, fight, and even participate in drug trafficking, endangering public safety.”
“Our police force has organized numerous raids to hunt down these mutants, but their abilities are exceptional, and they are incredibly skilled. Our officers are no match for them. Each raid results in heavy casualties, and we can only capture a few mutants,” Rodriguez continued. “Moreover, these mutants seem to be supported by an organization that provides them with weapons and shelter, making it impossible for us to completely eradicate them. We suspect that these mutants are all members of the Karen organization, and that Karen brought them to Honduras.”
Lynn's eyes darkened, and he became even more certain that these mutants must be related to the Karen organization. The reason why Verus chose to flee to Honduras was not only because his secret base was there, but more importantly, because the mutants of the Karen organization were there to provide cover for him and allow him to hide safely.
"So, the Karen organization started laying the groundwork in Honduras a year ago?" Lynn asked.
“That should be it,” Rodriguez nodded. “We found out that a year ago, a mysterious organization entered Honduras, established strongholds in various places, recruited mutants, and provided them with shelter and training. This organization is very likely Karen’s mutant organization. Most of the mutants they recruited were homeless and desperate, and some were coerced by them. These mutants had no choice but to obey their commands and commit evil deeds everywhere in order to survive.”
“Moreover, these mutants are becoming increasingly arrogant. They not only rob ordinary citizens but also dare to attack our police officers and even intercept government vehicles,” Rodriguez said, his tone tinged with anger and helplessness. “We have requested support from our superiors multiple times, but Honduras’ police force is limited and its equipment is outdated. We are simply unable to deal with these powerful mutants and can only watch helplessly as they commit atrocities.” Jason frowned and said, “So, the Karen organization’s influence in Honduras is even stronger than we imagined? They not only have branches but have also recruited a large number of mutants and control many areas?”
“Yes,” Rodriguez nodded. “Their influence has infiltrated every corner of Honduras, especially the port of La Ceva, which has become their domain. They do everything from smuggling and drug trafficking to robbery. Our police force dares not venture there unless we have a large number of police officers to support us.”
Lynn took a deep breath, knowing that the pursuit would become even more difficult. The Karen organization had a powerful presence in Honduras, with a large number of mutants providing cover. Finding Verus, hiding in such an environment, would be extremely challenging. But he did not flinch; his eyes remained resolute.
“Officer Rodriguez, please arrange two interrogation rooms, one for Marcus and one for this mutant,” Lynn said. “We want to interrogate him ourselves. Send two officers to guard the rooms outside. Don’t let anyone near or pass any messages. I want to make sure the interrogation process is not disturbed in any way.”
“Okay, I’ll arrange it right away,” Rodriguez nodded, this time without being perfunctory. He immediately turned around to arrange the interrogation room and the guards. He also knew that these mutants and Marcus were related to Verus’s whereabouts and the security of Honduras. Only by interrogating them as soon as possible to obtain useful clues could these evils be completely eradicated.
The interrogation room was quickly set up. Lynn and Jason split into two groups: Lynn was responsible for interrogating the captured mutants, while Jason was responsible for interrogating Marcus. The team members stood guard outside the interrogation room, closely monitoring the surroundings to prevent any surprise attacks from the Karen organization or the secret transmission of information.
Lynn entered the interrogation room. The captured mutant was handcuffed to a chair, blood still seeping from the wound on his calf. His eyes remained fierce as he stared intently at Lynn, saying nothing. The interrogation room was dimly lit and the atmosphere oppressive. Only the ticking of the clock on the wall broke the silence.
Lynn walked up to the mutant, pulled up a chair, sat down, and looked at him coldly: "I'll ask you one more time, are you from the Karen organization? Did Verus send you to stop us? Where is he now? Where is his secret base?"
The mutant remained silent, gritting his teeth and glaring fiercely at Lynn, looking as if he would rather die than submit.
"Do you think we can't do anything just because you don't speak?" Lynn's tone turned icy. "I know you mutants are all coerced by Karen. He provides you with shelter and training, making you work for him. If you disobey, he will kill you. But think about it, following Karen, following Verus, will only lead to a lifetime of evil deeds, and in the end, you will only end up being brought to justice."
Lynn paused, then continued, "If you tell us now where Verus's secret hideout is, and information about the Karen organization, we can assure you that we will protect you, prevent the Karen people from harming you, and give you a lenient punishment. Think about it, you're still young. Do you want to live in fear and guilt for the rest of your life?"
The mutant's eyes flickered slightly upon hearing Lynn's words, a hint of hesitation appearing on his face. He remained silent for a moment, then slowly raised his head, looking at Lynn, and said in a hoarse voice, "Let me tell you, can you really protect me? Karen's people are very powerful; they won't let me go. If I reveal their secrets, they will definitely kill my family."
Seeing his softening, Lynn secretly breathed a sigh of relief and her tone softened: "I assure you, we will protect you and your family and will not let Karen's people harm you. Moreover, as long as you can provide useful clues to help us capture Verus and destroy Karen's branch, we will not only punish you leniently, but also arrange a new identity for you and your family so that you can live a peaceful life."
The mutant remained silent for a long time, his eyes flickering, clearly struggling with a fierce internal conflict. He knew that Karen was ruthless, and if he revealed the secret, he and his family would be doomed. But he also knew that following Karen would only lead to destruction, and Lynn's words might be his only way out.
Finally, the mutant took a deep breath and slowly said, "Okay, I'll tell you. We are indeed from the Karen organization. Karen sent us to roam the streets of Tegucigalpa, intercepting suspicious individuals, especially you federal agents from the United States, to prevent you from tracking Verus."
"Where is Verus now? Where exactly is his secret base?" Lynn asked hurriedly, his eyes sharpening.
“Velus did indeed land at La Ceva,” the mutant said slowly. “After landing, he took a speedboat to his secret base—an abandoned manor on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa. It’s an important stronghold of the Karen organization in Honduras, guarded by many mutants. It’s very well hidden and ordinary people can’t find it at all.”
"The abandoned manor? Where exactly is it located in the outskirts of Tegucigalpa?" Lynn pressed, taking out his notebook and quickly jotting down the relevant information.
“I’m not entirely sure of the exact location,” the mutant said. “All I know is that the abandoned manor is located in the mountains outside Tegucigalpa, surrounded by dense forests. There’s only one hidden path leading to the manor. The Karen organization has set up many spies and traps around the manor, and there are many mutants guarding it. Getting into the manor is extremely difficult.” (End of Chapter)
