Chapter 669
Better to Die Than Surrender!
At the same time, Rodriguez led ten officers out of Warehouse No. 3, their pistols and assault rifles firing simultaneously as they charged towards the three speedboats in the middle, their objective clear—to intercept the contraband inside. "Quick, stop them! We can't let them get away with the contraband!" Rodriguez shouted, leading the charge. His assault rifle fired continuously, the bullets accurately striking a mutant who was about to lift a box of contraband. The box fell to the ground with a clatter, its contents spilling out blue vials that emitted a pungent odor—the very drugs used in mutant experiments.
The mutants on the three speedboats in the middle, seeing the police officers rushing towards them, immediately split into two groups: one to fight back, and the other to move the contraband to the warehouse as quickly as possible. A fierce standoff ensued, gunfire, screams, and the clanging of crates mingling in the chaos. One officer was hit in the shoulder by a bullet fired by a mutant. He staggered back a few steps, supported by a colleague. He gritted his teeth, pushed his colleague aside, raised his pistol again, and fired at the mutants, his eyes resolute, showing no sign of retreat. Rodriguez's eyes grew even colder as he saw his teammate wounded. He raised his hand and fired, hitting a mutant carrying contraband in the back. The mutant fell forward, dropping the crate of contraband. Rodriguez immediately rushed over, stomped on the mutant's back, and subdued him, shouting to the officers around him, "Quick, move the contraband to the warehouse, store it properly, and don't damage it!"
At the top of the crane, Lynn saw the battle below in full swing. His eyes narrowed, and he said to his two teammates, "Go, down there, capture Varus!" With that, he took the lead, quickly scaling the steel frame of the crane, his movements light and swift, seemingly unaffected by the gunfire below. His two teammates followed closely behind, and the three of them soon reached the ground and rushed towards Varus's location.
Upon seeing the sudden ambush, Verus's disdainful smile vanished instantly, replaced by intense anger and astonishment. He never expected Lynn to have laid an ambush at the docks beforehand, and to act so swiftly. "Damn it! That bastard Lynn!" Verus roared, raising his hand and shouting to the mutants beside him, "Quick, stop them! Protect me as I leave! If I get out of here safely, Lord Cullen will reward you handsomely!"
Several mutants immediately abandoned their counterattack and turned to charge at Lynn and his group, their arms flailing with powerful force—they were all strength-type mutants, incredibly agile and thick-skinned, making them difficult to kill with ordinary bullets. The leader, a burly mutant over two meters tall with clearly defined black markings on his arms, roared and lunged at Lynn, his fist slamming into Lynn's chest with immense force, as if capable of shattering it.
Lynn quickly dodged to the side, the mutant's fist grazing his chest and striking the shipping container behind him with a loud bang. The container was dented, its metal shell severely deformed, demonstrating the immense force of the impact. Taking advantage of the moment, Lynn raised his hand and fired at the mutant's knee. The bullet struck him precisely, and the mutant let out a piercing scream, his legs buckling as he collapsed to his knees. Without hesitation, Lynn stepped forward and stomped hard on the mutant's head, completely subduing him.
Seeing his companion subdued, the other mutant's eyes grew even more ferocious. He roared and charged at Lynn, firing his assault rifle incessantly, bullets whistling towards Lynn. Lynn quickly dodged, simultaneously raising his hand to retaliate. A bullet struck the mutant's arm precisely, and the rifle clattered to the ground. Undeterred, the mutant continued his charge, attempting to punch Lynn. Lynn sidestepped the punch, simultaneously extending his right foot and tripping the mutant's leg. The mutant lost his balance and fell forward. Lynn immediately moved forward, smashing the mutant's head with the butt of his rifle. The mutant groaned and passed out.
Two team members were also engaged in fierce combat with two other mutants. One team member was punched in the chest by a mutant, staggering back a few steps, a trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth. He gritted his teeth, immediately adjusted his stance, raised his rifle, and fired at the mutant's head. The bullet hit its mark, and the mutant collapsed to the ground, lifeless. The other team member engaged in close combat with the mutant, skillfully dodging his attacks while constantly looking for an opportunity to counterattack. Taking advantage of a moment of inattention, he pulled out a dagger from his waist and plunged it deep into the mutant's abdomen. The mutant let out a scream, his body jolted violently, and he slowly collapsed to the ground.
Seeing the mutants around him being subdued one by one, Varus was filled with fear. He knew he was in a desperate situation; staying would only mean capture by Lynn. He gritted his teeth, turned, and ran towards a speedboat on the shore, hoping to escape. "Varus, don't run!" Lynn shouted, immediately giving chase, his rifle pointed at Varus's back, but he didn't fire immediately—he wanted to capture Varus alive, extract Karen's exact location from him, and completely destroy Karen's organization.
Verus ran incredibly fast, glancing back at Lynn as he went, his eyes filled with despair and resentment. He quickened his pace, trying to board the speedboat as quickly as possible. Just as he was about to board, Lynn raised his hand and fired at the speedboat's engine. With a loud bang, the bullet struck the engine precisely, causing it to malfunction instantly, emitting a hissing sound and emitting a plume of black smoke, never to start again. Verus stared at the stopped speedboat, his body stiffening abruptly, a look of despair on his face. He knew he was doomed.
Lynn rushed over, grabbed Verus by the collar, and slammed him against the hull of the speedboat. He stared at Verus with icy eyes, the rifle pressed firmly against his chest. "Verus, you can't escape now. Surrender!"
Varus struggled, glaring fiercely at Lynn, a cold smile playing on his lips, his tone laced with madness: "Lynn, don't be so smug. Even if you capture me, Lord Karen won't let you go. He will lead more mutants to destroy you, take control of all Honduras, and even the whole world. You will pay the price for what you did today!"
Lynn ignored his ravings, simply holding him down tightly to prevent him from struggling. At the same time, he pressed the earpiece and said to Jason and Rodriguez, "Varus is under my control. You two speed things up, completely eliminate the mutants, seize all contraband, and don't let a single one escape!"
"Understood!" Jason and Rodriguez's voices came through the earpiece. The battle was still raging. Jason's team had completely taken control of the two speedboats on the west side. Most of the mutants had been killed or subdued, with only one mutant still putting up a stubborn resistance. He was hiding in the cabin of a speedboat, constantly firing at Jason and his team, determined to fight to the bitter end. Jason led two team members, quietly circling around to the back of the cabin. One person was responsible for drawing the mutant's attention, while the other took the opportunity to launch a surprise attack from the side and subdue the mutant.
Rodriguez's team also made significant progress. Most of the mutants on the three speedboats in the middle had been eliminated, leaving only two. These two mutants, clutching a box of contraband, were hiding at the warehouse entrance, putting up a fierce resistance, trying to take the contraband away. Rodriguez, leading five officers, formed an encirclement and shouted at the two mutants, "Drop your weapons and surrender, or we'll shoot!" The two mutants didn't respond, continuing to fire at the officers, bullets leaving holes in the warehouse walls. Rodriguez's eyes turned cold. He gestured to the officers beside him. Two officers circled around to the left, two to the right, while Rodriguez drew the mutants' attention from the front, simultaneously opening fire, forcing the two mutants to keep their heads down. Soon, officers on both sides circled around behind the mutants and fired simultaneously, hitting two mutants in the knees. The two mutants fell to their knees, dropping the boxes of contraband they were holding. Rodriguez immediately rushed over, subdued them, and ordered the boxes of contraband to be moved to the warehouse for safekeeping.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps and shouts suddenly came from the entrance of the dock. Lynn heard Jason's voice through his earpiece, which sounded urgent: "Captain, it's bad! The Karen organization's reinforcements have arrived. There are about ten mutants rushing towards the dock, and they're moving very fast!"
Lynn's eyes narrowed, and he immediately spoke into his headset: "Jason, you take three team members to intercept the reinforcement mutants and prevent them from getting close to the core area of the dock. Protect the contraband and the subdued mutants. Rodriguez, you arrange for five officers to assist Jason in intercepting them. The rest of you continue to clear out the remaining mutants at the dock and inventory the contraband. I'll take one team member and escort Verus to a safe area, then come to support you immediately!"
"Understood!" everyone responded in unison, immediately acting according to Lynn's instructions. Lynn had one of his team members take out handcuffs, cuffed Verus's hands, and then led him towards the container pile on the west side of the dock, a relatively secluded and temporarily safe area. Verus struggled and screamed frantically, "Quick, save me! Lord Karen's reinforcements have arrived! You'll all be killed soon! Let me go!"
Lynn ignored his shouts, simply holding him tightly as he quickly walked behind the stack of containers, handing him over to the two officers who remained behind, and instructed them, "Keep an eye on him. Don't let him escape or get hurt. After the battle, we'll take him back for interrogation."
"Understood, Captain!" The two officers nodded and immediately pinned Verus against the container, keeping a close watch on him. Lynn turned, grabbed his rifle, and rushed towards the dock entrance. Meanwhile, Jason and his team were already engaged in a fierce battle with the mutant reinforcements.
The ten mutant reinforcements, all tall and powerfully trained, roared as they charged towards Jason and his team, their assault rifles firing relentlessly, bullets raining down on them. Jason led his men, taking cover behind containers, constantly fighting back. Although outnumbered, their excellent teamwork and the advantageous terrain allowed them to tenaciously repel the mutants' advance. One of his men was struck in the thigh by a bullet, blood instantly staining his combat uniform. He gritted his teeth and continued firing, showing no sign of retreat.
"Captain, backup's here!" Rodriguez led five officers, arriving quickly and immediately joining the battle, firing at the mutants and forming a pincer movement. Although the mutants were formidable, they gradually fell behind under the combined attack of the officers and team members, with mutants constantly being hit and falling. A particularly burly mutant roared and charged at Jason. His arms were thicker than those of ordinary mutants, covered in black markings, making him look exceptionally ferocious. Jason quickly dodged to the side, simultaneously firing a shot into the mutant's head. The bullet struck his cheek, blood gushing out instantly, but he didn't fall. Instead, he became even more frenzied, lunging at Jason again.
When Lynn arrived and saw this, he immediately raised his rifle, aimed at the mutant's knee, and fired two shots. The bullets struck his knee precisely, and the mutant let out a piercing scream, his legs buckling as he collapsed to his knees. Lynn seized the opportunity to rush over and smash the mutant's head hard with the butt of his rifle. The mutant groaned and passed out, completely subdued.
The remaining mutants, seeing their leader subdued, were filled with fear and tried to turn and run, but were held back by Jason and Rodriguez's team and the police officers, giving them no chance to escape. A fierce gunfight erupted again, bullets whistling through the air as mutants fell, their screams echoing across the dock.
One mutant attempted to flank the team behind the containers, but was spotted by a sniper on a high vantage point. The sniper gently pulled the trigger, and the bullet struck him precisely in the head. The mutant collapsed instantly, lifeless. Another mutant, seeing his comrades fall one after another, his eyes filled with despair. He lowered his rifle, intending to surrender, but was shot dead by a nearby mutant. The mutants of the Karen organization have always upheld the principle of dying rather than surrendering; those who surrender will only be killed by their own comrades.
The battle lasted about half an hour. All ten mutant reinforcements were either killed or subdued; not a single one escaped. The docks were littered with mutant corpses and blood. Contraband was neatly piled in Warehouse Number Three. Team members and police officers were busy cleaning up the battlefield, inventorying the contraband, and treating their wounded comrades. Exhaustion etched on their faces, yet their eyes remained resolute. (End of Chapter)
