Night Tours are a Fine Tradition of Hogwarts
Chapter 27 Night Tours are a Fine Tradition of Hogwarts
Hogwarts provides six-person dorm rooms for first-year Slytherin students, with silver lanterns hanging from the ceiling for illumination. The rooms contain six four-poster beds, each with green silk curtains and silver-embroidered bedspreads. Their luggage has already been placed under each bed.
The ancient stone walls were covered with medieval tapestries, the tapestries depicting exquisite scenes outlined in gold and silver thread. Upon closer inspection, Rice felt his blood pressure rise, for the scenes depicted the adventures of the great wizard Slytherin.
Looking at the story on the tapestry, Rice's face gradually became hot, because the story could be summarized as "The Wonderful Adventures of Slytherin and His Three Automatic Spellcasting Wands".
Fortunately, the other three couldn't see what was on the tapestry, otherwise Rice would have had to run away again.
After finding his own bunk, Rice took off his robe and hung it by the head of his bed. Then he saw Malfoy and his two henchmen, Crabbe and Goyle, staring at him.
"What? Would you like to try some more cake?" Rice looked at Draco Malfoy with a half-smile, while the latter looked away, not daring to reply.
If he were forced to eat cake in front of his classmates, he would really have to reconsider going to Durmstrang.
"If there's nothing else, go to sleep early." After saying this, Rice climbed into bed, drew the curtains, leaving Malfoy standing outside, his face turning red and then pale.
Bressa Binni and Theodore Nott, who followed them into the room, exchanged bewildered glances: The atmosphere in the dormitory seemed a bit off. But a slightly off atmosphere didn't matter, as long as they didn't start fighting.
The two had no intention of getting involved in their roommates' conflict and quietly went to bed.
Seeing this, Malfoy could only take a few deep breaths and swallow his anger.
Lying in bed, he began to silently imagine the scene of Rice apologizing to him in the future. Sure enough, the soft mattress was indeed a warm bed for sweet dreams, and to the sound of the lake water lapping against the window, Malfoy drifted off to sleep.
In his dream, he defeated the arrogant Rice in front of everyone with his own strength, and looking at Rice lying in front of him, he laughed happily...
Soon, the dormitory was filled with a deep sense of sleepiness, and the young wizards, who had been up all day, slept soundly. Rice, however, opened his eyes while his roommates were fast asleep, gently pulled back the bed curtains, and got out of bed.
There will be plenty of time to sleep in the future, so I can't waste my time on this kind of thing—I slept for a thousand years before, so I should sleep less after I wake up.
However, Rice wasn't secretly getting up at night to study; the things first-year wizards learn don't require his attention yet. He had something important to do.
He needed to make sure that the successor principals had fulfilled their duties and reinforced the seal on the dungeon.
Listening to the intermittent snoring, Rice's lips curled into a smile: Young people have such good sleep quality, they fall asleep as soon as they lie down.
"Rice...you've finally met your match..." Malfoy's incoherent murmurs reached Rice's ears, causing his face to darken.
Is this never going to end? You're haunting me even in my dreams?! When will this ever stop?
He took out his wand and pointed it at Malfoy's bed. A tiny star, twinkling with a faint light, emerged from the tip of his wand and floated lightly into Malfoy's bed curtains, silently altering his dream.
Malfoy, who was laughing triumphantly after defeating Rice, suddenly felt someone tugging at his trouser leg. Looking down, he saw a ragged Muggle beggar.
"Let me go, you filthy thing!" Malfoy roared in fury: he would rather fall into a cesspool than let such a thing soil his robes.
"My son, I am actually your father—"
"Bullshit!!!" Malfoy jumped up as if he'd been branded with a hot iron.
"My son, he's right," came the weathered voice of his father, Lucius.
Malfoy looked toward the source of the sound and saw his father standing in the crowd, his expression complex.
"Yes, you are indeed his child."
That's the voice of Narcissa, the mother!
Malfoy: ? ? ?
The students discussed among themselves, their eyes shifting between themselves and the beggar. When he looked at the beggar's face again, he found that he really did look somewhat like himself!
The beautiful dream instantly turned into a nightmare.
While Draco Malfoy struggled in the mire of nightmares, Rice had already left the dormitory.
When he walked to the common lounge area, Rice was surprised to find that there were still people lingering in the lounge so late at night.
The lights came on, and Daphne sat by the fireplace, staring straight at herself.
"Why aren't you sleeping at night? What are you doing here?" Rice was quite surprised: Does this little girl have so much energy? Other young wizards are so tired that they fall asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow, but she can still stay in the common room and look at the lake view?
Daphne blinked: It doesn't seem wrong to ask you this question, does it?
"My hair was still a little wet after the shower, and I wanted to wait until it was dry before going to sleep—if I went to sleep with my hair not dry, I would have a headache when I woke up."
Rice glanced at her; the girl's silver hair was matted into clumps and was indeed wet.
"I'm afraid it will take a long time, won't it?"
With this much hair, it would probably take an hour to air dry naturally. The lounge is quite damp, so it will likely take even longer.
"My dad always helped me before," Daphne said, looking a little aggrieved. "He just used his wand and it was done in a flash."
There really is such a curse.
Rice took out his wand and waved it gently, removing the excess moisture from Daphne's hair.
"Thanks."
"Alright, you can go back to sleep now."
Daphne looked at Rice: "So what are you going to do? The dungeon routes are complicated, it would be bad if you got lost. I heard there are night watchmen patrolling at night, and if you get caught, you'll lose a lot of points and be put in solitary confinement."
"Nighttime strolls are a fine tradition of Hogwarts students," Rice scoffed.
Anyway, when he was in charge of the school, the students loved to get up at night and wander around the castle; there was even a famous saying among them:
[To have never seen Hogwarts at night is to have never attended Hogwarts.]
The founders also turned a blind eye to this behavior.
Only adventurous wizards can survive in this cruel world, not to mention that students who wander at night can also serve as patrols.
Rice turned and walked towards the lounge door.
However, as soon as he stepped out, he heard footsteps behind him, and Daphne came running out after him.
Seeing that Rice was about to say something, Daphne spoke up first: "Night outings are a fine tradition of Hogwarts students."
Rice: ...
Since you're so good at breaking school rules, you might as well transfer to Gryffindor!
"The chances of two people getting lost are always lower, and besides, I'm the daughter of the Greengrass family. If we get caught, you definitely won't be expelled with me by your side!" Daphne began to analyze the pros and cons.
Seeing the expectant look in the girl's eyes and her imitation of adults negotiating, Rice couldn't help but sigh.
"Keep up with me, don't get lost."
Sooner or later, I will eventually leave this world, and there are indeed some things that need to be passed down, and some younger generations should also know the secrets that the school has hidden.
The young girl from the Greengrass family in front of me is young and quite perceptive, so I'll pass on these traditions to her.
