Chapter 106

The Burning Lion Port

Chapter 106 The Burning Lion Port

Lannisport is much smaller than King's Landing and Oldtown, but much larger than Gulltown and White Harbor, making it the third largest city in Westeros.

At this moment, the city is surrounded on three sides.

Renly stood firmly in the most conspicuous place, with two knights attending him on either side.

The man on the left was exceptionally tall, more imposing than many of his knights, and only slightly smaller than a hound.

Renly's self-glow swept past silently, and he couldn't help but shake his head inwardly.

Unfortunately, she was a woman who fantasized about being a knight.

Brienne of Targaryen earned her the title of honorary bodyguard by defeating many of his knights, including Loras.

Renly first met Brienne during his Great Tour of the Stormlands when he came of age and visited the Isle of Tars.

Back then, she was just a girl, and not nearly as striking as she is now.

His good upbringing led him to treat the monster with gentlemanly manners, and then old Selwyn put the man in Storm's End.

"Why did you take her in?" Loras had asked him not long ago.

Renly simply smiled in response.

"Other knights follow me either for honor or for land, but Brienne is willing to die for me."

"Besides, it's not her fault that she's ugly."

She loves him; even a blind man could see it.

Lanley, of course, wanted to make good use of this.

Moreover, Loras, who is on the right, was someone he had known for a longer time, was more handsome, and had a closer relationship with.

At a very young age, he was fostered by the Duke of Mace at Storm's End and served as Renly's squire.

At this moment, Loras was riding a horse clad in silver armor and green robes, his beautiful eyes gazing at the distant city walls, where a restless light flickered within.

Lan Li snapped out of his thoughts and scanned the entire battlefield.

His army, numbering approximately ten thousand, focused its main attack on the south gate of Lannesport.

More than 5,000 of them were the main force of Storm's End and Highgarden, his most elite troops.

Outside the east gate, five thousand men are launching a feigned attack, commanded by Earl Berry Dondelion.

Based on prestige, Selwyn should have held this position, but the good-natured man claimed that his leg injury had flared up and only sent a little over a thousand infantrymen to get by.

This behavior is quite suspicious; Renly currently trusts the nobles of the Reach the most.

Most of the families in Stormlands did not fully support him.

Gurian Sven was only forty years old, but he said he was too old and useless, and only agreed to send his son over.

Astan Selmi, that fine young man, insisted he was sick and sent a distant relative instead.

They seemed perfectly fine when they were on their expedition to Eagle's Nest not long ago, but now, after only a short time, their health has started to deteriorate.

It's clear they're taking advantage of having someone working for Ed to bet on both sides.

The Clinton family is the most despicable.

Red Roland spent all his wealth to raise a large army and sent them out in full force. Not a single soldier was left at Eagle's Nest. Renly was very moved at the time and thought he would reward him with some land in the future.

Not long after, news came that this guy had led a rebellion.

That's true. The Nest Castle is too close to Storm's End, and he knew he couldn't defend it, so he simply didn't bother.

There was only a sickly father left inside. After Renly had him arrested, he even sent a maester to take good care of him.

The Tully, Peck, Florent, the two Fossowaries, the Red and Green Apples, and many other Reach lords were all at the North Gate, led by the Earl of Landau.

They needed to both attack and contain the direction of Casterly Rock to avoid being caught in a pincer attack by Tywin's hidden army.

On the sea, Earl Parker led the fleets of Green Pavilion Island and Old Town to patrol outside the harbor, ready to land and launch a pincer attack at any time.

The time had come, and Renly began to move forward.

His siege camp was well-fortified, the moats outside the city had long been filled in, and the resistance forces in the southern part of the western border had been completely wiped out.

The storm archers lined up in front of the formation, raising over a thousand bows simultaneously. The sound of the bowstrings vibrating merged into a deep hum, and arrows soared into the air like black clouds before raining down on the city walls.

The crossbowmen in the west fought back desperately, but they were outnumbered and their crossbow bolts were no match for those below the city.

Arrows rained down on the battlements, felling one after another the defenders who had no time to dodge, their screams echoing throughout the city.

The siege tower gradually approached the city wall.

"Hey-ha-hey-ha"

Hundreds of soldiers pushed from behind the tower, their shouts deep and powerful, their sweat splattering on the ground, accompanied by the creaking of the wheels rolling over the earth, each inch forward carrying immense force.

The bridge planks at the top crashed down, slamming into the wall and sending up a shower of rubble.

Before the dust had even settled, the heavy infantry charged forward, shields raised in one hand to protect their heads and faces, swords in the other, shouting as they charged into the enemy ranks.

The sounds of fighting erupted from the city walls.

Metal clashed, screams and groans filled the air, swords cleaved through helmets, and shields shattered armor.

Some were stabbed in the abdomen, their internal organs gushing out with blood; some had their arms severed, the severed limbs clutching longswords as they fell to the ground below the city walls; others were pushed off the walls, tumbling and falling through the air, adding a graffiti-like stain to the crimson earth.

Blood flowed down the battlements, forming thin red streams that gleamed dimly in the sunlight.

The battering ram smashed through the city gate, revealing the deep darkness.

"Go into town."

The knights charged forward on horseback, trampling through the broken city gates and kicking up splinters of wood.

However, they were met by a line of crossbowmen.

The crossbow bolts whistled, exploding into sparks on the plate armor.

The first row of knights fell from their horses.

The retreating men pulled out the crossbow bolts from their bodies and found that the arrowheads were as long as a finger, forged from fine steel, and had an amazing armor-piercing ability.

This type of crossbow bolt has never been seen before; it is clearly a recent product.

"Shield Wall".

The infantrymen quickly advanced, forming a moving iron wall.

The crossbow bolts pierced through the thick oak shields and into the soldiers' palms, but most were blocked, preventing them from harming those behind them.

Seeing that the situation was not good, the enemy crossbowmen quickly disappeared into the houses and into the depths of the alley.

Renly's gaze swept over the surrounding buildings as he carefully considered what other tricks Tywin might have up his sleeve.

At that moment, someone in the front row screamed.

They fell to the ground, clutching their feet and groaning in pain, as they reached out and pulled out something with four sharp corners.

Barbed caltrops.

This thing has four sharp spikes, with one side always facing upwards, specifically designed to pierce the hooves of horses and the soles of soldiers' feet.

The western border has abundant mineral resources and is close to the Iron Islands. The two sides fight back and forth, but they also do some business together.

Tywin, that cunning old lion, knew that the narrow alleys would hinder the cavalry's maneuverability, so he set up this insidious trap in the city.

"keep going."

The infantrymen endured the stinging pain, slowed their pace, and carefully avoided the spikes hidden in the mud and gravel.

Urban warfare has begun.

The western garrison retreated into the city and relied on the familiar terrain to resist layer by layer.

They threw stones from the roof, rushed out of the cellar to slash the horses' legs, and shot arrows from the windows.

A young soldier had just turned the corner when he was pierced in the abdomen by a spear lying in ambush. Blood splattered all over the ground. He opened his mouth as if to shout something, but only made gurgling sounds.

Renly's soldiers were filled with hatred.

Their homeland is being ravaged by the enemy, and they are determined to take revenge.

"burn."

Flames licked the dry wood, quickly spreading, billowing smoke and shooting red light into the sky.

Shouts of battle could be heard in the distance.

Outside the North Gate, Landau launched an attack.

Parker also began landing from the sea.

Renly gripped his unused warhammer, awaiting the fall of the city.
