Chapter 67
Internal and External Troubles
Because of his status, Joffrey always forgets one thing.
Cersei is a very controlling woman.
He was proud, willful, ambitious, and believed himself to have a great talent for politics.
In her view, the only thing that prevented her from displaying her talents was that she was missing something.
Just as her doting affection for Joffrey was unshakeable, Joffrey had no way to control her for the time being.
What can he do if they insist on staying in King's Landing?
Let's temporarily assign her a sinecure as Minister of Justice and let her have her own fun.
According to the division of power, Cersei can indeed mobilize the Gold Robes.
But now we are in wartime, in a special period.
All the soldiers in King's Landing were placed under the unified command of the Hand of the King and Regent, Eddard, with Jaime and Barristan assisting them.
With these three powerful and influential figures sitting there, Cersei couldn't cause any trouble at all.
Of course, Joffrey is qualified to offer some advice.
However, he felt he lacked the ability and with a formidable enemy at hand, he decided to delegate military power to a more suitable person.
The great loyalist Varys was right in instigating it.
According to the law, the king must live through his sixteenth name day before he can reclaim power from the regent.
But Ed didn't care about any of that.
He had already involved Robb in politics when he was in Winterfell, and he continued the same approach when he arrived in King's Landing.
In addition, Joffrey showed remarkable maturity, indicating that he valued the King's thoughts and actions quite a bit.
If it were Tywin Lannister, these good days wouldn't be possible.
Because he is that kind of man with a very strong desire for control.
King's Landing is still mostly populated by roughnecks, and the few who are willing to use their brains are only thinking about scheming and infighting.
Joffrey's many brilliant ideas could only be handled by the little devil.
As the saying goes, the more people a doctor dies, the more skilled he is.
The better the Imp did, the more work Joffrey gave him.
Over time, his power as Chancellor of the Exchequer became much broader than nominal, and he carried considerable weight in core decision-making.
But this is exactly what Cersei found fatal.
The son no longer relies on his mother and goes to see his most annoying uncle every day.
So her jealousy was about to burst out.
Moreover, she has been trapped in that prophecy.
"VALONQAR will strangle your pale neck and take your life (Valelian, meaning brother)."
Therefore, it's not surprising at all that she would do some subtle things to Tyrion that others couldn't see.
And what about the little devil?
Back in Casterly Rock, no one paid him any attention except Jaime.
Deep down, he always longed to be needed and recognized.
However, due to Joffrey's intervention, Tyrion was imprisoned in the Eyrie for two months before being rescued and brought down the mountain.
Then they returned to King's Landing with the main force.
Therefore, he now has neither a mountain clan nor Xueyi.
Not even Podrick Pine.
All that was left by him was Polon, who kept chasing him for debts and arguing with him every day.
Therefore, he cherished the opportunity when he was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer.
He often worked overtime until midnight and took the blame for a lot of things that Joffrey did.
"I'm not tall, and many people look down on me."
"But they always had to call me 'Young Master Tyrion' against their will. Now, thanks to you, I'm 'Lord Tyrion'."
"Because they know that I have the entire Lannister family backing me up."
Tyrion sighed wearily.
"But you will be my enemies."
"All I'm left with is a hunchback and short legs."
Joffrey fell silent.
broken.
It seems that this person has been assigned too much work, and the pressure is overwhelming.
Cersei likely already caused trouble before.
Tommen was probably just a tool Tyrion used to test his feelings.
Because of his strong personality, Joffrey didn't notice anything unusual until he said it himself.
Joffrey reflected on his actions.
He took the crossbow that someone had given him and pulled the trigger repeatedly to scare them.
Joffrey really wanted to slap himself twice.
He stood up, poured himself a glass of wine, and handed it to Tyrion.
"Uncle, I was wrong about what happened just now."
"We're family, how could something like 'being my enemy' happen?"
It should be "with us".
"As for my mother..." Joffrey scratched his head.
"Why don't you move to Meige Building? From now on, we'll eat and live together."
Tyrion opened his mouth.
Then he picked up his glass and drank it all in one gulp.
"Good nephew, this won't do."
The little devil took a deep breath and suddenly regained his usual expression.
"Sansa will be angry if I take over your house."
"Her wolf is kept in a kennel and howls all day. What if it gets commanded to pounce on me and bite me when I'm out for exercise?"
Joffrey was taken aback.
"The lady is very well-behaved; it's Namelia who likes to shout nonsense."
"I don't care which one it is, I get scared as soon as I see it." The little devil shook his head.
"Your big white deer isn't any better; it's just like the mischievous creatures in stories..."
He rambled on and on, mostly about nonsensical things.
Although his voice still carried a hint of hoarseness and sob, a smile returned to his face.
Finally, he said, slightly drunk.
"Alright, I haven't eaten much, but I've had my fill of wine."
"If there's nothing else, I'll head back now."
Then he jumped off the chair and limped away.
He stopped at the door, his back to Joffrey.
"Don't worry, I'm really fine now."
"There's still another battle waiting for us."
Then he pulled the door open forcefully and walked out with firm steps.
But he bumped headfirst into the hound's rump.
"How come you've been eating for so long?" The hound turned around and smirked.
"Stannis is here."
……
"Stannis's coming for me?"
Earl Riverey threw himself at the foot of the Iron Throne: "Prime Minister, that's exactly what I'm worried about!"
"His Majesty has mobilized all the soldiers to King's Landing, but Stannis has yet to show up."
"He's been waiting for this opportunity! Taking advantage of the fact that the people from the various castles are away and unable to support each other, he's brazenly launching a direct attack on Twilight Town!"
"Please, send troops to our aid immediately!"
Ed raised his hand and gently pressed it down.
"What's the panic?"
"Duskvale has a thousand soldiers, strong walls, and ample supplies. Even if Stannis sends out all his troops, he won't be able to conquer it in a short time."
"Moreover, the lords of Crab Claw Peninsula have already gathered at Raven's Nest Fortress and have begun their southward march."
"They will definitely discover the situation in Dusk Valley and then turn to provide support."
Count Riverley's expression softened somewhat, but unease still lingered between his brows.
"But...but what if they don't go..."
"I will go," Ed interrupted him, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"King's Landing has organized a thousand cavalrymen, all seasoned veterans, specifically to deal with this situation."
"I will send a fast horse to inform the lords of Crab Island, instructing them to cooperate and attack from both sides. Stannis will be attacked from both sides and will have to retreat back to the sea."
Count Riverley finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Prime Minister... Thank you, Your Excellency..." He bowed repeatedly.
Just then, a sweet voice drifted out from the shadows.
"Your Excellency, your hopes may be dashed."
The eunuch chuckled, his hands tucked into his sleeves.
"The little bird has brought a message."
"The correspondence between the Crab Claw Peninsula and Dragonstone Island has been quite frequent these days."
