Chapter 1488
Valerius's Flattery
Chapter 1488 Valerius's Flattery
There are no alternative energy sources.
As the only available energy source to sustain the Beast Soul System, the Burning Beast's fate was inevitable.
But now, a new Burning Beast has appeared!
Valerius stood by the window on the top floor of his mansion, his mood better than ever before. He pondered how to win over the little Burning Beast's heart after dawn, hoping to get it to stay in Anniemo...
The urgent knocking startled Valerius awake, and he realized that the city outside the window had been completely plunged into darkness.
"Come in!" Valerius frowned, turning to ask the butler who entered, "What's going on here?"
The butler came to report: "Your Grace, the sudden power outage across the city has been investigated and found to be caused by the sudden disappearance of the earth's energy supply..."
"I understand." Valerius waved his hand to stop him. "I almost forgot, the Burning Beast has already been taken away. Crystal City's energy is entirely supplied by the earth's vein energy, so the interruption is normal."
The butler was taken aback, clearly having just learned of the news, but quickly lowered his eyelids, nodded, and asked.
"We have received many messages inquiring about this matter. How should we respond? In addition, how will we address the energy issue? Jingyao City relies on energy to maintain its elevated state, and a prolonged energy shortage will lead to serious consequences."
"Immediately connect to Silvermoon City's energy to maintain Crystal City's daily operations," Valerius ordered without hesitation. "The only response should be equipment upgrades and adjustments; nothing else is required."
"Yes." The butler had already bent down and started operating the terminal. "Silvermoon City's main energy supply has been connected to Crystal Radiance City's backup pipeline. Connection successful..."
As soon as he finished speaking, the dark room lit up.
Outside the window behind Valle, Crystal City, like a giant machine restarting, was brightly lit again.
"The unified reply has been sent," the butler's fingers flew across the keyboard, but he dared not look directly at Valerius. "The backup energy pipeline is operating normally. Your Highness, what should the replacement period be set to..."
Silvermoon City has abundant energy reserves. However, these reserves have always been used exclusively for Silvermoon City.
In theory, it would be more than enough to maintain the daily operations of another Crystal City.
However, the problem is that maintaining Crystal City's floating state requires far more energy than usual.
As a result, in order to ensure a sufficient energy supply for Crystal City, Silvermoon City will inevitably face an energy shortage.
Those troublemakers in Silvermoon City are not easy to deal with.
If it's a short time, it's fine, but if it goes on for a long time, the aftermath... it's troublesome just thinking about it.
Valerius squinted at the window: "Don't worry about that for now. Nothing is more important than the Burning Beast. Go down."
"Isn't the Burning Beast dead?" the steward muttered to himself, but outwardly nodded obsequiously in agreement.
"Wait!" Valerius suddenly called out. "Go and prepare gifts. Any kind is fine, all kinds are welcome, they must be valuable and of good quality. They will be used after dawn."
"Yes," the butler nodded. "May I ask who this gift is for?"
Vallejo's face suddenly turned cold: "Don't ask what you shouldn't ask!"
The butler's heart skipped a beat; realizing he had said the wrong thing, he immediately bowed slightly and apologized.
"The goods must be of the highest quality, with everything imaginable." Valerius's face was grim, his voice icy. "I will present it with the ultimate luxury of Crystal City, and indeed the entire Annemo, an unparalleled honor in the world... You know how to prepare, don't you?"
"Yes! As you wish, sir." The butler, his voice trembling, slipped out of the room.
I walked through the corridor until I reached the corner where no one could see me at the bottom of the stairs, and then I weakly leaned against the wall.
Unparalleled honor in the world... only beast gods can enjoy such glory!
Then consider the missing ley line energy, and what about Silvermoon City...
This Crystal City... is probably about to undergo a major upheaval.
The Finch family.
The beautiful open-air courtyard was filled with all sorts of gifts, big and small, making it look like a nouveau riche showing off their wealth.
Adrian leaned against a stone pillar in the entrance hall, watching Valéry bow obsequiously, following closely behind the little black cat, meticulously introducing the gifts as it struggled to navigate the narrow passages. All these things had certainly piqued Chitose's curiosity. It stepped on the gifts, looking here and there…
Adrian inwardly scoffed, simultaneously regretting that he hadn't thought of a gift offensive; he'd only focused on professing loyalty…
“That’s so unfair.” Antonio stood next to Adrian, holding a plate full of food, chewing something loudly. “Has he forgotten that you’re having a funeral?”
Adrian glanced at Antonio, thinking to himself: You don't seem to care about my family's funeral arrangements at all.
“No!” Antonio didn’t wait for Adrian’s reaction and walked down the steps. “I have to get closer and protect Sui Sui’s safety.”
Are you sure it's not because you can't hear clearly from too far away, but because you want to watch the show up closer?
Adrian watched speechlessly as Antonio followed behind the man and the cat, carrying a plate and eating as he went, his expression of watching the spectacle quite obvious.
As soon as he went down, Impelli, who had been standing on the steps just like Adrian, followed him down.
"Aren't you going to keep an eye on things together?" Adrian turned around and asked Lin Fan, who was standing by the gate.
"No need." Lin Fan stepped forward, looked at the people in the courtyard who were forced to walk in a single line within the narrow path, and crossed his arms. "No one can change His Majesty's will."
"So, you mean if it wants to stay and become the Beast God of Annemo, you won't object?" Adrian raised an eyebrow. He had thought their relationship would become even closer.
"What grounds do we have for objecting?" Lin Fan replied casually. "Would you interfere with someone else's decision under the guise of doing what's best for them?"
Adrian thought for a moment: "I won't interfere with ordinary people. But if we're close, and I feel that the choice is clearly wrong or harmful, then I will..."
Lin Fan glanced over and realized he had spoken out of turn.
"I'm not saying that becoming the Beast God was a mistake..."
"Don't bother explaining to me," Lin Fan said, unconcerned about his thoughts. "Whether you revere it or yearn for it, since you place your hopes on its powerful abilities, why do you think it's a fool?"
Adrian choked.
"Your Burning Beast was born here and grew up here. Whether it was the emotions or the environment you created, it all led to an outcome it had no other choice about. It probably never realized until its death that it had been trapped in a supreme cage that you had specially built for it."
Lin Fan watched as Qian Sui, completely unconventional, jumped from several gifts to a distant pile of gifts.
As for Valerius, whether he was genuinely old or trying to gain sympathy, he deliberately pretended to be inconvenient, panting heavily, and having gone through great hardship to get there.
Before he could even say two words, Qian Sui ran off again. The old man couldn't get angry, so he could only whine and groan as he chased after her.
"It's not the Burning Beast you keep in captivity." Lin Fan smiled as he watched Qian Sui toy with Valerius, his words carrying a warning. "You're too naive. You only see its immense power, but you haven't considered the consequences of being devoured by that power."
Adrian's heart skipped a beat, but he began to defend himself.
"I didn't think about anything at all. Although I did think about it before. But now I've gotten what I wanted. I've treated you all as friends, okay? Haven't I been treating you with the utmost courtesy and hospitality? I even went to the auction house to save you yesterday. Aren't these the best proof?"
He didn't go there to save anyone. But given the current situation, it's safe to say he went in a positive light.
Lin Fan smiled at him. The smile was gentle and faint, yet it seemed to see through all the hidden thoughts in Adrian's heart.
Just as he was about to argue for himself a few more times, he saw Lin Fan extend his index finger and lift the restraint ring around his neck.
"So when will you be able to unravel this for your friend?"
I recently discovered that dark mode is more comfortable than eye protection mode.
I used to use a light green interface, I don’t know when it became popular, people said this color is good for the eyes.
It's better than white, but the brightness is still not low.
Then recently I accidentally used a black background and dark gray text, and it felt much better. Haha. After that, I adjusted everything I could to a darker color.
This makes the white background appear as if a light is on, making it even more glaring.
I don't know if it's really a good thing. Anyway, let's leave it at that for now.
