Chapter 28

The King of the Sun, His Fame Endures Through the Ages

Chapter 28 A King for a Day, His Fame Endures for Generations

"No, this net is too small, and the point of contact with the net seems to be wrong."

The feeling is getting weirder and weirder; it doesn't feel like lifting, but more like prying!

Zhu Suihan said, "Does anyone have a Psychic-type Pokémon? Or, Abi, could you send Scizor and the others into the water? Otherwise, I'm going to send Lapras to blast through the water!"

A high-intensity surfing attack pulls you out of there; I want to see what's so heavy!

Abi decisively raised his hand: "Go, Pinsir, Heracross, Scizor, go into the water and help!"

Officer Jenny and her team stood to the side, at a loss. As for Officer Jenny's companions, the environment wasn't very friendly to Growlithe, and they couldn't do much to help.

"Ugh!"

A dazzling blue light shone in the dragon's eyes, and the waters she influenced parted into a small calm zone, making it easier for the three new helpers to safely enter the water.

Boom!

The entire body of water began to shake violently, and Zhu Suihan immediately felt the pressure in his hands ease considerably.

"Well done, everyone."

Get up!

Zhu Suihan and Jilidan exerted their strength at the same time, then stumbled, and the insect net bounced directly into the sky, causing the two of them to fall backward.

"Chicken egg!"

"Go, Growlithe!"

Joey caught his partner, and Katie barked once before running over and bracing Zhu Suihan with her body, giving him a chance to catch his breath.

"Holy crap, they're really trying to pry something off."

Zhu Suihan patted the Growlithe's head: "Thanks, but I don't want to do laundry."

Growlithe wagged its tail and barked.

"Waaah."

Chenglong moved closer, craning his neck to scrutinize Zhu Suihan from head to toe.

"I'm fine."

Zhu Suihan glanced at the explosive scene and said, "Abi, you told me to do this, so you're the one to take the blame."

Abi's lips twitched: "How could I possibly cheat you? Don't worry."

The water churned again, and the three Bug-type Pokémon swam toward the shore with expressions of "Oh my god, this is so heavy, I can't take it anymore," each carrying a huge gray object.

"Leave it to us."

Officer Jenny and the members of the arrest team quickly stepped forward to help, but as soon as they reached out, they were infected by the same expression from Scizor and the others, and they even lost the mood to shout slogans and exert themselves.

It's really heavy!

"What is this thing? Its weight is a bit outrageous."

Zhu Suihan leaned against Chenglong's body and took out a few energy cubes from the incense burner to replenish his energy.

"This is yours, Dragon."

Too lazy to even move, Zhu Suihan sat on the ground and tossed the energy cube into the air. Chenglong, displaying perfect teamwork, swallowed the energy cube with pinpoint accuracy and closed its eyes in satisfaction.

Abi was also feeding her Pokémon Energy Cubes to restore its condition, while she and the others looked at Zhu Suihan.

"See, I told you so. Whenever my friend takes action, it's bound to be effective."

Zhu Suihan nodded lazily: "Ah, yes, yes, you're right."

"Next time something like this happens, I still suggest you call in a super-strong person to keep things under control, otherwise it's really hard to say what will happen."

Slowpoke Well is small enough, but if it were a ruin in a place like the Snow Peak Temple or Mt. Coronet, no single Pokémon, without a whole team of big, strong Pokémon, could move the contents of the ruin on their own.

"What is this thing? Does anyone know?"

Upon hearing Officer Jenny's question, Abi rested his chin on his hand, circled the boulder once, and then shook his head.

"Aside from the shape being a little off, it seems like there's nothing different about it."

You can't exactly use a Pokémon's special move to test the effect; that would be tantamount to destroying cultural relics.

"Didn't you guys recognize what that is?"

Zhu Suihan poured a handful of crystal-clear energy beads into his hand. These were his own stockpile of food. It seemed that he would definitely have to prepare a full supply of food for his next long journey.

Abi's eyes lit up: "Just tell me, what is this?"

This guy's a living antique; it's not surprising he knows some secrets.

"This is the shell on Slowking's head. If you can't see it, move away a bit to see the overall shape. Step back to where I am."

Abi: ?

Everyone promptly stepped back, and Abi even squatted down and looked up to observe.

Sure enough, it looks just like the seashell on Slowking's head!

"But, a seashell this big shouldn't be like this."

Abi was dumbfounded: "If you calculate it proportionally, that Slowking, including its shell, would be as tall as a two-story house! Are you kidding me?!"

"It's not big, it's really not big."

Zhu Suihan said, "There used to be a very mysterious technology, or rather, a very strange radiation and magnetic field. Pokémon that were exposed to it would grow to the size of a mountain."

This is a classic Pokémon tactic.

When in doubt, ancient technology; when in doubt, a mysterious virus; when in doubt, a meteorite falling—of course, the last one usually represents a brand new Pokémon.

Oh, and there are mad scientists too. Don't worry about how they came up with their research; the villains always manage to use scientists' findings to cause trouble.

Even more outrageous are the Pokémon that came from outer space, represented by Deoxys.

There's also the otherworldly version of Necrozma.

In any case, the main point of these two so-called "visitors" is: "Have you eaten? If not, I'll punch you."

A two-story-tall Slowking is nothing! When Ash goes on his travels, he'll show you what a Gengar and Alakazam that are as tall as mountains look like.

Alright, having an elder in the family is like having a treasure, even though this treasure certainly doesn't look like an old person.

Abi pondered for a moment: "Based on conventional logic, this should be something left behind back then, a fossilized seashell left behind after Slowking's life came to an end?"

"It doesn't look like it."

Zhu Suihan and Qiao Yi shook their heads simultaneously: "It shouldn't be a keepsake."

Officer Jenny's expression shifted: "How so?"

"If it is a relic, then the Slowpoke Well should not be a place where Slowpoke likes to drink water, but rather a kind of worship, which is a relatively ancient group culture."

Zhu Suihan said, "Just like how wild Pokémon groups gather to compete in speed and strength, this culture also reflects respect for the deceased."

Joey added, "So, I'm more inclined to think of it as a form of spiritual support. If that heavy rain back then was real, then this seashell is Slowking's 'miracle'."

Abi touched the seashell: "So here's the problem: how can we be sure this is a genuine historical artifact and not a modern artifact? The Dark Team won't believe us without evidence."

"Why not just find a Slowpoke to experiment with?"

Zhu Suihan said nonchalantly, "Let's see if Slowpoke has any special feelings about this shell. Of course, I'll also put aside the King's Token that I fished out."

That is indeed a solution.

Time had passed, and after confirming that the Dark Team wouldn't be coming, Officer Jenny and the rest of the squad took the minor characters back, while Joey and Biscuit stayed put.

Zhu Suihan. Strictly speaking, he had nothing to do with this, but it was because he appeared that things took such a strange turn.

So Officer Jenny let it go. What if this guy could find something more valuable if he kept trying? Wouldn't that be a huge win?

"It's all gone, all gone, there really isn't a single drop left."

Zhu Suihan decisively refused: "Instead of bringing this up with me, you might as well take out your research materials and study them carefully, and think about how you can avoid embarrassing your mentor and the Cypress Dojo."

"It's already late at night. If I weren't really curious about this, I wouldn't be staying here with you guys as night owls."

Fortunately, Officer Jenny acted quickly enough. Her subordinates carried in a sleepy-eyed Slowpoke, its little white tail swaying from time to time.

"Oh, thud?"

Slowpoke blinked with the speed of a Zootopia civil servant processing business, somewhat confused as to why he had been picked up while he was sleeping soundly.

"Let Slowpoke go over there, then we'll step back a bit."

Living Antique and Joey began to give instructions, one of them holding an energy cube ready at any moment, and the other holding a wound spray.

"Oh, thud?"

Slowpoke glanced at the shell, took slow little steps over, tilted its head, and then, unusually, decisively lay down. Before long, it started to snore, blowing a bubble from its nostril.

Zhu Suihan:?

It turns out that this "snoring and blowing bubbles" technique really exists.

But then, a faint blue light shone on the shell, and Lapras blocked Zhu Suihan with a serious expression, while Scizor stood in front of Abi like a loyal knight.

buzz-

Ripples of light spread out in all directions, and the places swept by the light instantly changed into a different appearance, even the waters became dry and cracked.

Zhu Suihan raised an eyebrow. As a time traveler from the information explosion era, his ability to accept information was quite high.

As expected, it seems that Slowpoke needs to trigger some special mechanism to achieve this "scene reenactment" situation.

Slowpokes like to come here to drink water, and considering their racial characteristics, they have absolutely no idea that this is some kind of "pilgrimage"!

"Yay, thud."

In the scene, the giant seashell has turned into a protruding rock. A Slowpoke wearing the King's Mark looks around, surrounded by listless Pokémon of all types.

Slowpoke stepped off the rock and came to the middle of a group of Shellder, its eyes fixed on the largest Shellder in the group.

"Ya dong".

"Gurgle."

Shellder made up its mind, blew a bubble towards its group, and then used all its strength to climb onto Slowpoke's head, opening its shell to bite down on both the King's Mark and Slowpoke's head.

The light of evolution appeared, and the four-legged Slowpoke stood up, transforming into Slowking, standing in place and looking up at the sky.

A bubble floated out of Slowking's mouth, and the wise man of the sea slowly closed his eyes, his body radiating Psychic and Water-type light, which gathered towards the bubble in the sky.

Abi was somewhat surprised: "This, using the Sleep ability to recover stamina while simultaneously using Rain Dance, as expected, Psychic-type Pokémon are just unreasonable."

Boom!

Clouds gathered, lightning flashed, and thick, dense raindrops pounded down on the ground, as if a thick wall of water had been erected over the world.

The surrounding Pokémon were overjoyed. The Grass-type Pokémon, having recovered a little, unleashed pure Grass-type power, transforming into the most pristine grassy terrain, and together with the heavy rain, they repaired the environment.

As the rain and the grassy area gradually expanded, Slowking's size continued to grow until the rain subsided, at which point the expansion finally stopped.

"Yay, thud."

Slowking looked at his accomplishment and at the Clams, who were now in the river and ready to leave, and smiled憨厚ly.

The giant tongue shells want to see their king again.

"Ya dong".

Both those in the scene and Zhu Suihan and his group were inevitably shocked by what happened next.

Slowking removed its crown shell, and its body shone brightly once more. A small bishell Pokémon emerged from the large crown shell, still unaware of what was happening.

Aside from the fact that the crown shell remained unchanged, Slowking's size gradually decreased until it shrunk back to its original standard size.

"This is regression, and it's regression in self-control!"

Joey was stunned; this was completely different from what she had learned.

Pokémon can indeed control themselves from evolving, but I've never seen one self-degenerate!

"Ya dong".

Slowking raised its right hand and used its last psychic power to send Shellder back into the group. Unable to stand on two legs anymore, it reverted to Slowpoke's behavior.

The giant crown shell fell into the depths of the water with a thud. Slowpoke, now back in its Slowpoke form, tilted its head and trembled all over after five seconds, seemingly startled by the sound of the crown shell.

The Shellders circled Slowpoke a few times before drifting away with the current.

Slowpoke watched Shellder and the other Pokémon leave, then leisurely found a rock, lay down on it, and its little tail naturally fell into the water. Snoring and bubbles from its nostrils reappeared.

"Yay, thud~"
