Chapter 100
The Heavenly Marriage is Finalized
After Xuanbao finished speaking, the hall fell silent for a moment. Xihe and Changxi exchanged a glance, their eyes both showing a strange light.
Chang Xi chuckled first, her eyes crinkling: "Nephew Xuanbao, your matchmaking skills are quite impressive. You even managed to persuade the Sage Nuwa to act as your go-between?"
Seeing Chang Xi's relaxed tone, Xuan Bao also breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "To be honest, there was indeed a divine warning about this matter. Sister Nuwa's red embroidered ball sensed that the opportunity for a heavenly marriage was approaching, which should have been related to the demon Emperor Jun. However, after discussing with Sister Nuwa, the three masters believed that Emperor Jun was not a good match, so they thought of Uncle-Master Fuxi."
Xihe nodded slightly, her expression becoming more serious: "My sister and I have long heard of Fellow Daoist Fuxi. When we listened to his teachings at Zixiao Palace, we observed his composed demeanor and profound insights; he is indeed a man of high moral character. However…" She paused, "the matter of marriage is no small matter and requires careful consideration."
Chang Xi also put away her joking expression and said softly, "Junior niece, you may not know this, but since my sister and I took human form, we have lived on the Taiyin Star, living a life of peace and tranquility. Although we do not reject the possibility of becoming Daoist partners, we have never thought about it deeply. Moreover, the concept of celestial marriage involves the merits of the Heavenly Dao, and the karmic consequences are profound. I wonder what Fellow Daoist Fuxi thinks of this?"
To be honest, innate deities like Xihe and Changxi have no concept of what a Daoist partner is. But if you say it involves merit, then in the prehistoric world, if not 100%, then 99% of people would not refuse such a good thing.
Xuanbao said solemnly, "Please rest assured, my two senior uncles, this matter is not something to be forced. Sister Nuwa is concerned about my brother's lifelong path of cultivation, which is why she sent me to inquire first. If you two senior uncles are interested, Sister Nuwa will naturally discuss it in detail with Uncle Fuxi; if not, she will not force you. As for the cause and effect and merit, my master, the Three Pure Ones, has already calculated it. If it is a good match, it will benefit both of our cultivation, helping you two senior uncles to make further progress in the Way of Taiyin, and also helping Uncle Fuxi to perfect the principles of Yin and Yang creation."
Xihe pondered for a moment and said, "Nephew Xuanbao, could you tell me more about Fellow Daoist Fuxi's recent situation? My sister and I have heard about his preaching and teaching among the people, but we don't know the specifics."
Xuanbao was delighted, knowing that she had already considered it, so he calmly began to speak: "Since the birth of the human race, Uncle-Master Fuxi has always lived in human tribes, blah blah blah blah..." Xuanbao recounted how Fuxi gave up his identity as a demon to follow his own path.
"What's even more remarkable is that Uncle-Master Fuxi is gentle in nature, dislikes fighting, and acts only in accordance with the natural order, without competing with the world. When he deduced the secrets of heaven, he mostly did so to help people avoid disaster and seek good fortune, and never used it for personal gain. When I was in Kunlun, I often heard my three masters praise him for 'following the natural way and having a clear mind,' saying that he was a true immortal who had attained the Dao."
Xuanbao's praise almost made Fuxi sound like the only man in heaven, and absolutely no one else on earth.
Chang Xi listened intently and said softly, "In that case, he is indeed a true gentleman."
A hint of appreciation flashed in Xihe's eyes, but she still cautiously said, "My sister and I have remembered what you said, niece. However, this matter is of great importance and needs to be discussed carefully with us. We also need to see what the will of Heaven is."
Xuanbao understood and rose to bow, saying, "Of course. I have troubled you for a long time today, so I will take my leave now. You two senior uncles may take your time to consider this. If you have any doubts or would like to know more about Senior Uncle Fuxi, you may send a message to Kunlun at any time. As for Sister Nuwa, once you two senior uncles have made a decision, I will invite her to come and discuss it formally."
Xihe and Changxi also rose to return the greeting. Changxi said, "Thank you for your trouble, my nephew. We appreciate your kindness."
Xihe said gently, "Nephew, please take your time. If you have free time another day, you can come to Taiyin Star to discuss the Dao again."
Xuanbao smiled and said, "Definitely. Please wait a moment, my two senior uncles."
Leaving Taiyin Star, Xuanbao was already seventy or eighty percent confident. Judging from Xihe and Changxi's attitudes, they were not opposed to Fuxi, and even quite admired him. As long as Nuwa and Fuxi reached an agreement, the matter would most likely succeed.
Upon returning to Kunlun, Xuanbao went straight to the Sanqing Hall to report. The Three Pure Ones and Nuwa were still talking in the hall, and when they saw Xuanbao return, they both looked at him with inquiring eyes.
Xuanbao reported his journey to the Taiyin Star in detail, and concluded by saying, "In my opinion, the two Taiyin Goddesses have a good impression of Uncle-Master Fuxi, but they are cautious about matters of marriage and need some time to consider it. They have no good impression of Dijun and the Heavenly Court of the Demon Clan, and have stated that they do not want to be pawns. Therefore, there should be no obstacles to the change of fate in the Heavenly Marriage."
Nuwa's face lit up with joy: "That's wonderful. I'll go and tell my brother right away."
Lao Tzu stroked his beard and smiled: "Excellent. If this matter succeeds, it will be a good match for my junior brother Fuxi, a good outcome for the Taiyin Star, and a good story for Kunlun. The great calamity is approaching, and every bit of good fortune we can gain adds to the variables."
Yuanshi rarely smiled: "Xuanbao handled this matter properly. The merit of the Heavenly Marriage should not have fallen into Dijun's hands. He has already been blessed by Heaven to obtain this opportunity. If he is still greedy and insists on demanding Taiyin, he may suffer a backlash."
Tongtian laughed heartily: "That's wonderful! That scoundrel Dijun is ambitious, he deserved this fate. If Junior Brother Fuxi can obtain this good opportunity, his cultivation will surely advance further."
Nuwa stood up and said, "There's no time to lose. I'll go to the human race to find my brother now. My three senior brothers, farewell for now. My brother Xuanbao, you will come with me."
Xuanbao nodded and left the palace with Nuwa.
At this moment, a great weight was lifted from Xuanbao's heart. If this matter succeeded, it would not only change the fate of Xihe and Changxi, but also allow Fuxi to usurp Dijun's position and go further on the path of cultivation. Furthermore, it would weaken the fortune of the demon race's Heavenly Court, achieving multiple benefits in one fell swoop.
Meanwhile, in the human tribe, Fuxi, who was teaching the people to observe the stars to determine the agricultural season, suddenly sneezed three times in a row. The ominous premonition in his heart grew stronger, but Fuxi soon found out why.
In the blink of an eye, Nuwa and Xuanbao arrived in the human territory. They saw crisscrossing paths and orderly houses, a far cry from their initial state. People were cultivating the fields and hunting and fishing in the forests, everything was well-organized. In the center of the tribe, on a simple star-gazing platform, Fuxi was instructing several human elders on how to observe the stars and determine their positions.
Upon seeing Nuwa and Xuanbao arrive, Fuxi was taken aback at first, then revealed a gentle smile: "Why have you come, sister? And nephew Xuanbao, what a rare guest."
When the surrounding humans saw Nuwa arrive, they all knelt down and shouted, "Greetings, Mother!" "Greetings, Father!"
"Alright, alright, get up now," Xuanbao interrupted them before they could finish speaking, which was somewhat awkward.
The humans were quite sensible; seeing the scene before them, they knew it wasn't something they could hear, so they all retreated, leaving the space to the others.
After everyone had left, the three entered Fuxi's simple bamboo hut. The hut was simply furnished with only a futon and a wooden table. On the table were several bamboo scrolls, all of which contained records of Fuxi's calculations of the Eight Trigrams and the human calendar.
After Nuwa sat down, she asked directly, "Brother, have you ever thought about finding a Daoist partner to jointly explore the Great Dao?"
Fuxi's hand trembled, spilling a few drops of tea from the bamboo tube he had just picked up. He smiled wryly and said, "Why did you suddenly ask about this, sister? Since I took human form, I have been focused on comprehending the ultimate principles of heaven and earth and have never thought about this matter before."
Xuanbao chimed in, "Uncle-Master, there is indeed a divine secret at play here. Sister Nuwa's red embroidered ball sensed that a heavenly marriage was imminent, and it was supposed to bring together the demon Emperor Jun and the goddess of the moon, Xihe. However, after discussing it with Sister Nuwa, my three masters felt that Emperor Jun was not a good match, and instead thought that you, Uncle-Master, were kind and gentle, and followed the natural way, making you a perfect match for the goddess of the moon."
Upon hearing this, Fuxi was first taken aback, then his expression turned thoughtful. He calculated with his fingers for a long time before saying, "No wonder I've had this strange feeling these past few days; it must be related to marriage."
Nuwa was secretly pleased to see that her brother had not refused outright, and quickly said, "Brother, the two goddesses, Xihe and Changxi, are both innate deities with profound roots and noble character. You saw them when you listened to the Dao at Zixiao Palace, so you know that what I said is true."
Fuxi recalled, "Indeed. Goddess Xihe is dignified and elegant, and Goddess Changxi is lively and intelligent; both are virtuous." He paused, "However, matters of marriage are of utmost importance and require mutual consent. Moreover, I now bear the responsibility of educating and guiding the human race; if I were to find another partner, I fear I would be distracted."
Xuanbao said, "Uncle, you are mistaken. The two goddesses of the moon reside on the moon star and are detached from worldly affairs. If they could form a bond with you, Uncle, they would not only help you perfect the principles of yin and yang, but also benefit your teaching of humanity."
Fuxi's eyes flickered slightly, clearly indicating that his thoughts had been touched upon. His understanding of the Eight Trigrams was based on the transformation of Yin and Yang, and the Way of Taiyin resonated with the Way of Yin and Yang. If he could form a connection with Xihe and Changxi, it would indeed greatly benefit his cultivation.
Nuwa pressed her advantage, saying, "Brother, I've already sent Xuanbao to the Taiyin Star to sound them out. Xihe and Changxi are quite fond of you, but they said they need time to consider it. If you're interested, I'll formally use the red embroidered ball as a matchmaker to tie the knot for you."
Fuxi remained silent for a long time before slowly saying, "Since it is Heaven's will, and my sister has gone to such lengths, I cannot simply refuse. However…" He looked at Xuanbao, "Nephew Xuanbao, now that you have met the two goddesses, do they still have any concerns?"
Xuanbao truthfully replied, "The two goddesses are mainly concerned about two things: first, marriage involves the merits of Heaven and the karmic consequences are profound; second, they don't know much about their master. I have already told them everything about their master's deeds in the human race, and they were quite impressed after hearing it. As long as their master is willing, Sister Nuwa will personally go and explain, and I think there should be no major problems."
Fuxi nodded, finally relenting: "In that case, I'll trouble you, sister, to make the arrangements. But there's one condition: if the other party truly has no intention, do not force them."
Nuwa exclaimed happily, "Of course! I will return to Taiyin Star immediately to formally propose marriage!"
The celestial marriage began in this way.
