Chapter 17
The Gray Zone
Selena wiped the bloodstains from her hands with a handkerchief, walked out of the room, and saw Gar waiting for her at the door. She immediately leaned on Gar's shoulder.
"Ugh, the treatment was a success! I'm so hungry."
Garr was also somewhat relaxed at this moment. The church and the first batch of believers had completed the plan as scheduled and had gained a foothold, which allowed him to relax a little.
Thinking of this, Gar patted her head: "Let's relax for a bit now, how about we go out for a nice meal?"
"No, please." Selena shook her head, resting her head on her shoulder. Then she ran to the basket, took out a loaf of bread, waved it at Gar, and took a bite. "We'll need money for many more things in the future, this loaf will be enough."
Gar watched silently as Selena ate her adorable meal.
"What's wrong? Do you want some too?" Selena felt a little embarrassed by his gaze, broke off half a piece of bread and held it to Gal's face: "Ah~ open your mouth."
"Idiot, isn't there bread in the basket over there?" Gal flicked Selena's finger, but didn't refuse. He picked up the half-bread and ate it in small bites.
His thoughts began to wander, and he started to think about the current situation and its future development.
After Eugenie becomes a member of the church, how should she contribute to the church? The church needs to establish a contribution system, specifying what kind of reward should be given for what level of contribution; the church needs to be repaired; and funds also need to be replenished, otherwise subsequent development will certainly be hindered.
Gar suddenly felt that there were still many things to do. He had just relaxed a little and was thinking things through when he inevitably became tense again.
Thinking of this, Gar sighed helplessly; the task ahead was arduous and the road ahead was long.
But that makes sense too. Rome wasn't built in a day; it was built step by step.
As the sky gradually darkened, Garr decided what he would do next.
-
In stark contrast to the nights at Nidhoggburg, the outer city of Blacktwilight City seemed to have little nightlife. At night, there were no streetlights, and the world was pitch black. Without candles, one could only see the road by the faint starlight.
After Selena fell asleep, Garr went to the church alone.
After confirming that no one was around, he took a deep breath, raised his staff, and a necromancy summoning array appeared from beneath his feet. Purple light instantly illuminated most of the church, making the dilapidated church appear even more eerie.
Gar currently possesses three Gold-level undead, which are his most powerful trump cards to date.
Using Hephaestus's staff, Gar summoned them with a small amount of magic.
Hans, needless to say, was an assassin who believed in the god of death.
The other two undead are the Death Knight and the Elegy Singer.
The Death Knight wore jet-black, form-fitting armor, holding a shield in one hand and a sword in the other.
The elegiac singer wore a tattered robe and carried a large staff that was longer than himself.
This was the first time Gal had summoned them since his transmigration, so he took out the management manual and checked their panels.
[Necromancer: Grayson Hart]

[Necromancer: Ian Morgan]
【Contract: Necromancer's Contract】
[Rank: Lv26 (Gold)]
[Faith: The God of Death]
Occupation: Elegy Singer
[Blessing: Requiem, Words of the Dead]
Gar nodded slightly. The three necromancer contracts that Andrew had once made were relatively balanced: Grayson was in the front row to tank damage, Ian was in the back row to provide support, and Hans was infiltrating the shadows to launch a surprise attack.
It can be said that Gal was able to single-handedly form an army.
However, as a necromancer, Andrew only knows two skills that are neither offensive nor defensive: Necromancer's Contract and Necromancer's Summoning. His early development is really difficult. Even if the necromancers become stronger, their masters are still the most vulnerable point. When fighting against intelligent races, necromancers will inevitably become the target of everyone's attacks.
However, this problem changed after Garr received the blessing of the God of Light. He also gained his own offensive and defensive capabilities. Given some more time... with even the necromancer himself possessing extremely high combat power, who could defeat him in a one-on-one fight?
Garr had already envisioned his invincible path, but he was only daydreaming about it; for now, he was still a noob.
Gar quickly assigned tasks.
"Ian, you wait here and alert me immediately if anyone approaches the church."
"Hans, infiltrate the darkness and follow me secretly. If we encounter danger, ambush and protect me."
"Grayson, you stay behind me and your main job is to defend me from attacks. You are not allowed to attack."
After giving his instructions, Garr removed his mask, combed his hair forward, and quickly transformed into Andrew's appearance.
After donning the black cloak he had prepared beforehand and wrapping the magic crystal on his staff in black cloth, Gar felt reassured as he headed towards the inner city.
The situation in the inner city was slightly better than in the outer city. The streets were illuminated by glowing crystals, some workers were still moving goods overnight, and there were also guards patrolling in groups.
Following his memory, Garl arrived at a tavern. This tavern looked no different from the others, but Garl knew that it held a secret within.
In stark contrast to the desolation outside, the tavern was bustling with activity, filled with people drinking, chatting, and playing drinking games. Several burly men shouted, "Open! Open! Open!" followed by a chorus of sighs.
Garr selectively ignored the group and approached a bartender with a gruesome scar on his face, lowering his voice to speak:
"Praise death."
The bartender scrutinized Garr from head to toe, his gaze lingering on the Death Knight beside him.
"To the black market?"
"Nonsense!" Garr roared, his gaze turning icy as he stared at the bartender. "Why would I be here with you if I didn't go to the black market?"
The bartender withdrew his scrutinizing gaze, shrugged awkwardly, and led Gal to the end of the tavern.
After climbing a few steps, they reached the end of the road.
On the surface, this place appears to be a dead end with three stone walls, but when the bartender pressed down hard on a stone, the wall at the front began to sink, revealing a deep corridor.
The bartender immediately gestured for them to proceed.
"Go straight ahead from here and you'll reach the black market, Master."
Garr nodded slightly and stepped into the secret passage. Shortly after he entered, the stone wall behind him closed again.
Gar remained calm. The glowing crystals around him illuminated the path, and Gar continued forward. After walking for about five minutes, his view finally opened up.
An underground black market covering several acres came into Gal's view. The street was lined with stalls and masked merchants selling all kinds of weapons and equipment, magic scrolls, alchemy materials, and so on.
These stalls were arranged in an orderly manner according to the black market, and the few buyers scattered along the road went to the vendors to buy items.
It appears that order is stable here, but Garr knows very well what's going on.
This is a gray area.
