Chapter 69 Selection

The next day, after Bai Yuze had arranged Qianye Mengyu's affairs, he finally had time to turn his attention back to himself.

Still in the library near the window, Bai Yuze had a stack of recruitment materials spread out in front of him.

Genji Technology Group, the Special Operations Bureau and Containment Division under the Security Bureau, and medical positions related to the Abyss in various hospitals.

There was also the option of staying at the university to continue his graduate studies under Professor Mu. He reviewed these materials several times.

He crossed out the Secret Service without even thinking about it.

Jiang Yu's face was still vivid in his mind, and he had no intention of going to her.

He wasn't very familiar with the Containment Department, but based on his experience delivering medicine to his senior brother last time—the several-meter-high alloy door, the four guns always aimed at him, and the stench of the fake humans that he still remembered vividly—he knew that it was probably easy to get in but difficult to get out.

He doesn't want to end up in jail!

On the other hand, he didn't really consider the hospital either. Okasan needed food, and he couldn't very well give them a corpse from the morgue.

Putting aside the question of morality, he didn't want his wife to suffer this injustice.

As for staying at the school—

Professor Mu and his senior brother were indeed good to him, but he didn't want to stay in the ivory tower for the rest of his life.

After all, he still has an old man to take care of.

Finally, Bai Yuze extracted the Genji Technology data separately and placed it on top.

When he first started looking at interview materials, he just wanted to know what positions the company was most short of and what positions he could apply for. But as he flipped through the materials, he noticed something was off.

Genji Technology Group is hiring every month.

Job postings are released frequently, and the positions are listed in detail, including the Ecological Simulation Aquaculture Department, the Special Individual Breeding Department, and the Deep-Sea Biological Resources Department.

Each department has job postings. The requirements aren't high; as long as your major matches, it's fine, but if it doesn't, as long as you can work hard.

The salary is very high, almost double that of others in the industry, and it also includes room and board. If there's one downside, it's that it seems to only cater to people from the Parrot District and Hanjiang District.

It's not that the Maple Leaf area isn't recruiting, but they're releasing very few openings, only two or three.

Bai Yuzhe thought for a moment and typed a line in the search bar of the library's computer webpage.

"Employee of Genji Technology Company."

"Employee of Genji Technology Parrot District Company".

"Compensation and benefits at Genji Technology Company"

"Benefits in the Parrot Zone of Genji Technology Company"

The former's videos, though few in number, do exist. Aside from complaining about having to work overtime all the time, they highlight the excellent benefits. In addition to the regular two days off per week, they even get a day off during the week.

It's called Employee Psychological Counseling Day to help employees release psychological stress.

However, the latter search returned only job postings and a few unimportant news reports.

There were no employee sharing sessions, no forum discussions, and not even a single comment from any of the Parrot Zone employees themselves. It was as if these people disappeared from the internet after they went in.

Bai Yuzhe paused for a moment, then closed the webpage.

It's still early; the internship interviews at Genji Technology are in early May, and it's early April now.

A month should be enough. In the days that followed, Bai Yuze's life became very simple.

I went to the library in the morning to look up information and prepare interview materials. At noon, I sent them to Chiba Yumeyu and asked her to help me organize them.

Practiced piano in the afternoon.

I work part-time at Moji Cafe in the evenings, and occasionally I'm called to rehearse by Shiracha Chika.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere of the school's anniversary celebration is getting stronger every day.

Colorful ribbons were hung at the entrance of the teaching building, and the corridors were covered with posters drawn by students. There were people setting up a stage in the square, and you could hear the sound engineer testing the sound as you passed by.

The sunlight shone on the colorful decorations, making the whole school look like it had been repainted, which improved people's mood considerably.

But Bai Yuze wasn't in the mood to appreciate it.

The rehearsal intensity increased, with rehearsals going on and on, until fingers were burning hot on the keys.

Bai Cha Qianxia was even busier than him. She needed to rehearse a duet with Su Xue and also accompany his piano music. She was running between the two, and every day after rehearsals she was covered in sweat, her hair was stuck to her forehead, and her skirt was all wrinkled up.

I don’t know when it started, but after rehearsals she would just collapse on the sofa in the music room and stretch her legs out in front of Bai Yuzhe.

"I'm exhausted, Bai Fei, could you give me a massage?"

Bai Yuzhe paused for a moment, glanced at her calf encased in white stockings, then at her matter-of-fact face, and resignedly placed her calf on his thigh.

The moment his hand touched her leg, she groaned in pain and frowned.

"Could you be a little gentler!"

"Bear with it, your muscles are too tense."

"Be gentle—"

'

"Okay, okay."

Her calf muscles were indeed very taut, hard to the touch. He softened his pressure and gently kneaded, gradually loosening the stiffness.

She leaned back on the sofa, closed her eyes, and her breathing gradually calmed down. Occasionally, she would let out a soft "hmm," whether from pain or comfort, it was hard to tell.

After a long while, Shiracha Chika suddenly spoke up, "I got angry at those old guys again yesterday."

"What's wrong?"

"During the meeting, I said something three times, but they acted like they didn't hear me. As a result, a problem arose, and they turned to my dad and said that I didn't know anything and was just giving orders blindly."

As she said this, there was still a hint of grievance in her voice, "My dad actually believed it."

Bai Yuze's hands didn't stop. "And then?"

"And then? Later, my dad went to negotiate himself, and those people didn't dare to say a word. They obediently signed the papers."

"Then what are you angry about?"

Bai Yuze applied a little force with his hand. "What's infuriating is that something your dad could have resolved with a single sentence, but they insisted on making things difficult for you?"

Hakucha Chika didn't speak, but her silence was the answer.

Bai Yuze gently massaged her tense calves, thought for a moment, and said, "Next time your dad asks you to go talk to him, don't go by yourself."

"Then who will go?"

"Take your father's secretary with you."

Hakucha Chika was stunned for a moment.

"With your dad's secretary standing there, those people will naturally know who's behind you. They might not give you face, but they'll have to give your dad face. You don't even need to say a word; the secretary will know what to say."

Bai Cha Qianxia paused, then lowered her voice, "Doesn't that make me seem useless? I rely on my dad for everything, what can I do myself?"

Bai Yuze continued working, slowly saying, "There are indeed many geniuses in the world, but this world is ultimately a world of ordinary people. Those old guys are so subservient to your father because he's been in that position for over a decade, working his way up step by step. You've only been in this position for a short time, and you already think you can leap over it all?"

He paused, then softened his tone.

"Give yourself time to grow. Leveraging resources isn't useless; it's smart. Your dad's secretary is a tool, and your dad is a tool too... If you don't use a tool, are you just keeping it as decoration?"

The music room was quiet for a few seconds.

Bai Cha Qianxia opened her eyes and looked at him. There was no weariness in her almond-shaped eyes, only something indescribable, like surprise, or like a sudden realization after being awakened.

"So you're just a tool to me too?"

"Squad leader, what you said is a bit disheartening."

Hakucha Chika chuckled and began to speak again.

She said that the always smiling supplier turned around and quoted her an exorbitant price; she said that the cooperation she finally managed to secure was snatched away by someone else the very next day; she said that every day when she got home, her mind was still racing with those trivial matters, keeping her awake at night.

Bai Yuzhe listened, occasionally responding with a word or two.

He could tell that she was indeed a little confused at the beginning, but the rest was just a simple outpouring of her feelings, and all he had to do was listen.

After a long while, Shiracha Chika suddenly spoke up, "Shiracha-kun, it's a shame you're not a psychologist."

"I studied deep-sea biology."

"The creatures of the abyss don't need a brain like yours."

"Class monitor, are you praising me?"

"you guess."

She chuckled, pulled her legs back, sat up, took out a few banknotes from her pocket, and slapped them down next to his hand.

"Good job, here's a reward for you."

"oh."

Bai Yuze sat there, glanced down at the few banknotes in his hand, and then looked at the closed door.

My first instinct was to stuff the money into my pocket, but wait a minute, something seems off.

hiss~

Am I being kept by a sugar daddy?

Oh well, so be it. The class monitor really does pay a lot, after all.

A
