Chapter 72

The Great Injustice

Chapter 72 The Great Injustice

A few minutes later, the press conference officially began.

Professor Mu stood on the podium, the spotlight illuminating his kind and gentle face. A slight smile played on his lips. "Thank you all for coming today. Today I will be presenting two research findings from our laboratory over the past two years."

The first slide lights up.

"The first item is Qingzhang Slow-Release Tablets."

Professor Mu spoke calmly and deliberately, as if lecturing to students in a classroom, "A protective drug developed for people who have been exposed to low concentrations of miasma for a long time. Some residents in Yingwu District and Hanjiang District have already participated in clinical trials. Data shows that after six weeks of continuous use, the miasma residue in the subjects' bodies decreased by an average of 67%, and the improvement rate of respiratory-related symptoms exceeded 70%."

Some people in the audience were talking in hushed tones.

Professor Mu did not interrupt, but simply smiled and waited a few seconds before continuing to turn the page.

"The second item is a microscopic inhibitor. This is a drug that inhibits the activity of the pseudo-human's energy core. It has already passed animal experiments and Phase I clinical trials. With the cooperation of the Containment Department, it has been tested on pseudo-human samples from Lv1 to Lv3. Data shows that after injection, the activity of the pseudo-human's energy core drops below the danger threshold within 30 seconds, resulting in loss of individual mobility. The duration varies from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on individual differences."

At this point, the hall became very quiet.

What does this mean? It means that the group of pseudo-people is very likely to become a thing of the past.

Professor Mu raised his head, his gaze sweeping over the faces below the stage, a hint of gentleness in his expression. "This means that in the future, the Secret Service and the Threshold Guard will have a non-lethal means of control when carrying out missions. It also means that victims parasitized by the fake humans will have the possibility of being saved."

The next second, enthusiastic applause erupted.

Professor Mu gave a slight bow, as if in response to everyone, and then closed his manuscript.

"These are the laboratory's current preliminary results. Further research is ongoing. Thank you for your attention."

Snap, snap, snap—

The applause rang out again, even louder than before.

After Professor Mu finished speaking, the applause from the audience gradually subsided, and the crowd dispersed, forming new small circles in twos and threes.

Senior Brother Aiwas, who seemed to have finished eating as well, swallowed the last piece of pastry, dusted off the crumbs on his hands, walked over to Bai Yuzhe, and gestured with his chin towards the crowd. "Are you full? Since we're just killing time anyway, how about I introduce you to some of the beauties over there?"

He stretched out his finger and pointed a few times in the crowd, as if he were picking out watermelons at a market.

"Do you see that woman in the white suit?"

Bai Yuzhe followed his finger and saw Yuan Liuli sitting on the sofa in the lounge area, legs crossed, holding a cup of tea. Her gold-rimmed glasses gleamed slightly under the light. She sat alone, and no one dared to get too close, as if they were separated by some invisible aura.

"Yuan Liuli, CEO of Yuanshi Technology Group. Don't let her gentle appearance fool you; she has enough patents to fill a room. See that hearing aid connected to her glasses next to her ear? That's actually a brain-computer interface. It can distinguish fake humans, sense the location of nearby abyssal monsters, and even if you stand right in front of her, she can tell you anything wrong just by looking at you."

Brain-computer interface?

Bai Yuzhe's heart stirred slightly, but his face remained expressionless.

Senior Brother Aiwas continued, "The young man next to her, Yuan Cheng, is her son. His personality is different from hers; he's an honest guy. If you run into him in the future, you can get to know him. And the one next to him in the pink dress is Yuan Yazi, her daughter. She looks quite sweet, but she's actually a very controlling person."

Aiwass moved his finger again.

"That guy in the kimono over there is Fujiwara Seiichiro, the eldest son of the Fujiwara family. His father is the real old fox; he's not here today."

The woman behind him is his daughter, Fujiwara Chizuru. She's very quiet, but don't be fooled by her appearance. The fewer words a member of the Fujiwara family speaks, the more complex their thoughts are.

Bai Yuze nodded.

"The next one over there is Oda Shinichiro, the eldest son of the Oda family. I've met him a few times at academic conferences before. He's alright, at least he's not pretentious. The one next to him playing on his phone is his sister, Oda Kaoru. She's a total internet addict, loves anime and manga, and seems innocent, but she's actually quite cunning."

Aiwas's finger finally landed in the direction of the White Tea family. "Over there, due south of the White Tea family, the head of the White Tea family. I heard he's preparing to run for the governor of the Eastern Japan Autonomous Region this term. He's probably here today to try and win over you, teacher."

Bai Yuze followed his gaze.

Bai Cha Zheng Nan stood at the edge of the crowd, talking to someone from the Xia Federation.

Standing next to him was a girl in a light purple dress, her hair tied up, revealing her slender neck, named Shirocha Chika.

She was holding a glass of champagne, her gaze casually sweeping across the crowd.

Then, she noticed Bai Yuze's gaze.

The two looked at each other. Bai Cha Qianxia raised her eyebrows slightly and curved her lips into a half-smile, as if to say: What, have you fallen for me?

Bai Yuze pursed his lips and looked away.

Aiwas followed his gaze and paused for a moment.

"Do you know him?"

"She's my classmate," Bai Yuze said. "She's my class monitor."

"oh."

Aiwas nodded, didn't ask any further questions, and stuffed another pastry into his hand. "Your class monitor is quite pretty."

I think so too.

Aiwas glanced back at him, then suddenly laughed. "Let me tell you, if you're looking to get a girlfriend, it's best to avoid rich girls like them. Don't be fooled by their cheerful exteriors; deep down, they've already calculated how much you're worth. One moment they might be all lovey-dovey, and the next they'll sell you off."

The words carried a strange emotion, which surprised Bai Yuzhe. He knew that since entering the laboratory, he had rarely seen his senior brother reveal his inner emotions. There must be a story behind this!

Just as he was about to ask a question, the host on the stage announced Ai Huasi's name. "Next, please welcome Researcher Ai Huasi from the Bioengineering Laboratory of Holly University to share the laboratory's interim results in the application of abyssal biological agents."

"What a hassle."

Aiwas sighed softly and patted Bai Yuze on the shoulder, "Junior brother, wait for me a moment, I'll be down soon."

After saying that, he straightened his collar and walked onto the stage.

The light followed and fell on him, illuminating his face, which always had dark circles under his eyes, clearly.

He stood in front of the podium, and his demeanor suddenly changed, completely different from the tone he used when chatting with Bai Yuzhe.

Bai Yuze shifted his gaze from his senior brother and glanced at the audience below.

Then he paused for a moment.

The young ladies in the front row, who had been looking rather bored, suddenly started to raise their heads.

Some people put down their game consoles, while others tucked their loose hair behind their ears.

There was something off about their gazes; some were curious, some were scrutinizing, and a few carried some inexplicable meaning.

Whoops!

Could it be that Master Tian has connections with all these young ladies?

Before he could think about it further, the commotion on the other side caught his attention.

Bai Yuze turned his head and saw Bai Chaqianxia standing in the middle of the crowd, looking unwell, as if she had eaten something she shouldn't have and was feeling uncomfortable, unable to swallow or vomit it up.

Standing next to her was her father, Shirakawa Masanao, and opposite Shirakawa Masanao was Tokugawa Niun.

Tokugawa Niun had his usual lazy smile on his face as he spoke.

The sound wasn't loud, and Bai Yuze couldn't hear it.

But he could see the expressions on the faces of the people around him. Some were watching the show, some were whispering, and some were pretending not to see but had their ears perked up.

Tokugawa Takeshi stood a few steps away, his face so gloomy it could drip water, his fingers gripping a champagne glass, his knuckles white.

Bai Yuze withdrew his gaze.

The senior disciple was still speaking on the stage, his voice steady, occasionally throwing in a few technical terms.

The young ladies in the audience listened attentively, nodding occasionally.

Time flew by, and the press conference began and ended with applause.

Senior Brother Aiwas put away his speech and stepped down from the stage. Some people came over to hand him their business cards, and others came over to shake hands.

They clearly wanted to chat more, but when they saw their senior brother's haggard appearance from staying up all night, they immediately stopped themselves from doing so.

If the other person suddenly dies while you're chatting, then it's all over.

On the other side, Bai Yuze stood aside like an inconspicuous table or chair, looking around and broadening his horizons.

His gaze lingered for most of the time on a man in a gray coat, who, like him, did not speak to anyone from beginning to end, but simply stood there, looking at Senior Brother Aiwas.

After the press conference, he disappeared as if he had never been there.

As Bai Yuze withdrew his gaze, the two Tokugawa brothers had somehow arrived at the pillar not far in front of him.

Tokugawa Takeshi's expression was not good.

His fingers gripped the champagne glass so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

As they were talking, Tokugawa Niun remained as lazy as ever, occasionally offering a word or two in response.

Their voices weren't loud, but Bai Yuze's ears twitched slightly, and he heard them.

"Tokugawa Nikuun, when you were talking to Shirocha Masao just now, there were so many people watching. Do you know what people will say outside?"

Tokugawa Takeshi's voice was low, but each word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, "Do you still care about the Tokugawa family's dignity?"

Tokugawa Nikuun swirled his glass, his voice laced with a hint of nonchalance and mockery: "Decent? Brother, aren't you tired of living?"

"you--"

"The Hakucha family was originally part of our Tokugawa family. When I win over their daughter and take over the Hakucha Supply Company, I'll make the Tokugawa family bigger and stronger. What's so undignified about that?"

Tokugawa Takeshi's brows furrowed even more, and a vein throbbed on his forehead.

"I can't control who you want to pursue, but don't do it in this kind of setting. Our Tokugawa family can't afford to lose face like this."

Tokugawa Niun chuckled twice, lowered his head to drink, and ignored the other person.

"You'd better watch yourself!" Tokugawa Takeshi snorted coldly and left.

Tokugawa Nagaku watched the other person's back and chuckled a few times. He turned around and his gaze swept over Bai Yuzhe. A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but he quickly regained his lazy smile.

He walked over with a wine glass in his hand, but not towards Bai Yuzhe; instead, he looked at Aiwas standing next to him.

"I've heard so much about Researcher Aiwass."

Tokugawa Niun raised his glass with a gentle smile, "Professor Mu's lecture today was wonderful. I believe that your name and Professor Mu's name will be remembered in the history of humankind in the future."

Aiwas paused for a moment, then quickly picked up his cup: "Mr. Tokugawa, you're too kind."

The two clinked glasses.

Tokugawa Nakiyun took a sip, his gaze inadvertently falling on Bai Yuzhe, lingering for less than a second.

"Who is this?"

"My junior brother, Bai Yuze."

Aiwas glanced at Tokugawa Zhuyun and Bai Yuze, then introduced them gently.

"Oh?"

Tokugawa Nagaku glanced at Bai Yuze, smiled, and said, "Young and promising."

He raised his glass, and Bai Yuze also raised his glass; the two touched it lightly across the glass.

Tokugawa Nakikumi didn't say anything more and turned to leave.

Aiwas watched Tokugawa Zhuyun's departing figure, then turned his gaze to Bai Yuze beside him and Bai Cha Qianxia not far away, and suddenly said, "Junior brother, tell me honestly, you don't have an affair with the young lady of the Bai Cha family, do you?"

"Huh? Senior brother, what did you say!"

"As everyone knows, Tokugawa Niun has been pursuing the young lady of the Shiracha family, and just now you were exchanging flirtatious glances with Shiracha Chinatsu. I don't believe you two aren't having an affair."

Bai Yuzhe stared at his senior brother in shock. "Wait, senior brother, aren't you supposed to be oblivious to everything else and only focused on your experiments? How come you're paying attention to these things?"

He looked like he'd seen a ghost.

Aiwass rolled her eyes at him. "I do enjoy doing experiments, but that doesn't mean I only care about experiments. You don't think I'm some kind of experimental freak, do you?"

what?

Is not it?

Bai Yuzhe wanted to say something, but he noticed that his senior brother had been lost in thought for a moment before walking towards Professor Mu and saying something.

Before long, Professor Mu was already chatting with Bai Cha Qianxia's father, Bai Cha Zhengnan.

Bai Yuzhe, who was standing to the side, was slightly confused when he saw this. What had his senior brother said to Professor Mu?

Professor Mu was very polite to everyone just now, but he was too polite. He basically ended the conversation after a few sentences. But the situation is obviously different now.

But Bai Yuze couldn't get close to them. After all, he was just a nobody who came along with Professor Mu and the senior brother to freeload.

Just then, Aiwas walked back to Bai Yuze's side and patted him on the shoulder: "Let's go, we still need to organize the data when we get back."

"Senior, what did you say to Professor Mu just now?"

"I'll introduce you to a girlfriend."

"what?"

"Just kidding. It's mainly to attract sponsorship. To put it nicely, this press conference is an announcement of our research results. To put it bluntly, the lab is out of money and needs to find a sucker who's willing to pay but can't interfere. And just now I thought about it, and it seems like the Bai Cha family is the only suitable sucker here."

Bai Yuzhe: "...

'
