Chapter 1201

Tan Delin

Chapter 1201 Tan Delin

Cheng Wenhui thought about the few tile-roofed houses in her home, "It really is time to build a new house. Look at our village, our house is the worst one. My parents will stay here while the house is being built, and they will spend the Spring Festival in town."

Although she didn't want to live with the elderly couple, she still had to say the polite things.

Tan Deming waved his hand: "Let's talk about it later. If it really doesn't work, we can ask a relative to stay with us for a while. The village is building houses, so we'll definitely have to keep a close eye on things. What if some materials are missing? Who's going to be responsible?"

Cheng Wenhui then stopped talking. Before the family split up, she wanted to take care of everything. Now that the elderly couple were living with Tan You, Cheng Wenhui wouldn't interfere much in their hometown affairs.

Tan You likes Cheng Wenhui's sense of boundaries.

Since they were at Cheng Wenhui's house, Tan You didn't have to cook lunch. Tan You sat down at the sewing machine for the first time in a long time and made a set of loungewear for Tan Yue using the fabric that Cheng Wenhui had collected.

"Dinner's ready," Tan Lin called from downstairs. Tan You folded her pajamas and put them aside before she and Tan Yue went downstairs hand in hand.

"Classes don't start until Monday. Have you been staying at your hometown these past few days?" Cheng Wenhui asked casually during lunch.

Tan You nodded: "Yes, the town is too lively, the countryside is quiet."

Cheng Wenhui smiled slightly: "The countryside isn't necessarily peaceful. You'll see when you get back."

Tan You didn't care: "That's my grandparents' business. I'm just lying at home. I'm really exhausted these past few days."

When Tan Deming heard Tan You say she was tired, he quickly put a piece of pork rib on her plate: "Go home and get a good rest for two days. Your grandma and I won't wake you up even if you sleep until noon. You're working too hard studying all the time."

Tan You smiled at Tan Deming, feeling that her grandfather truly understood her. Tan You used to love sleeping in, but now, as she completed her tasks one by one, that habit had gradually changed.

However, Tan You did receive the old man's concern.

After having lunch at Cheng Wenhui's house and buying some groceries in town, Tan You, Tan Deming, and Wang Hunü returned to their village. Because of the increasingly cold weather, not many people were out and about in the village, and the three arrived home without incident.

As soon as they got home, Wang Hu's daughter urged Tan You to go to bed: "Knowing you were coming back today, I aired out the quilt again the day before yesterday and changed the quilt cover to a clean one. Go to bed now, your grandpa and I will cook dinner."

"I'll call you for dinner then."

“Okay,” Tan You thought to herself, the old lady had never been this kind before. Ultimately, it was because she was now rich and successful. Thinking too much about it would be pointless, and Tan You didn’t want to lay everything out in the open.

After all, it's rare to be confused.

She was indeed exhausted. After two consecutive days of mental exertion, followed by a bumpy train ride all night, and then having to face various situations upon her return, Tan You was truly at her breaking point.

After taking a shower, Tan You lay down on the bed and started snoring less than two minutes later.

Wang Hunu peeked through the crack in the door: "She's asleep, still snoring."

Tan Deming felt sorry for his eldest granddaughter: "She never used to snore, let her sleep well..."

"Deming, are you home?" Before Tan Deming could finish speaking, a voice came from the doorway.

Tan Deming turned his head: "Delin? What brings you here?" Delin was from the same clan as him, and the two had a good relationship. Tan Delin was the village chief, responsible for managing people in the neighboring villages, resolving neighborhood disputes, and helping the village apply for minimum living allowances and other assistance.

Because the two had a good relationship, Tan Deming spoke to him without any formality: "Be quiet, Tan You just fell asleep."

Tan Delin smiled and lowered his voice: "You're back? I happened to be in a meeting in town today. I saw that the banner at the school gate has been changed again. You won first place in the national competition? And you were selected for the training camp? What kind of awards are these?"

Tan Deming didn't understand either, so he said what he knew: "The National First Prize is the national first prize. I heard from Tan You that there are only seven or eight people in the whole country who have won this prize."

"Tan You went to the capital for the exam this time. More than 300 students went, but only 60 were admitted to the training camp. Tan You was the only one from our province who was selected, and she was the only one who won the national first prize. I heard that a few students from our province won the second prize."

Tan Delin only grasped the key point: "Only Tan You from our province was selected? This is a one-of-a-kind! Well done, as expected of someone from our Tan family!"

Tan Deming's eyes narrowed with laughter: "I'm happy too, but I can't be too smug outside, so I just enjoy it secretly at home."

Tan Delin understood Tan Deming's meaning: "Did the school give any reward?"

"They gave it to us. The school gave us 10,000 yuan," Tan Deming said frankly. He knew that the news about the scholarships would eventually come out, so there was no need for him to hide it. "Later, the Municipal Education Bureau also came and gave us a reward of 100,000 yuan."

"That's 110,000." Tan Delin smacked his lips. "I've never seen anyone make money from studying before. Tan You has been studying since she was little, just like you."

Tan Deming likes it when people say that Tan You is like him, but it has to be said that Tan You's personality is indeed like Tan Deming's in every way.

"I'll have dinner at home tonight, and I happen to have something I want to ask you." Tan Deming had been thinking about building a house, and now that his younger brother from his own family was visiting, how could he let this opportunity pass?
Tan Delin also wanted to get closer to Tan Deming, firstly because of Tan You, and secondly because Tan Deming was a good person, honest and kind.

The two hit it off immediately and started discussing building the house in the main room.

When it came to the budget, Tan Delin was a little worried: "To build it well, it probably won't be less than 300,000. Do you have that much money? Even 110,000 won't be enough."

Tan Deming knew that Tan Delin was tight-lipped, so he revealed a little about it to him: "Tan You has been submitting manuscripts since the middle school entrance exam, and he has already published two books. The novel 'The Wandering Swordsman' that has been playing recently was written by Tan You."

Tan Delin stared in surprise, then suddenly realized something: "Did Tan You buy the house for Tan Lin and the others in town?"

Tan Deming smiled but remained silent. Tan Delin understood and lit a cigarette: "From now on, you two won't have to worry. Okay, I'll take care of the building permits for you."

Tan Delin said with emotion, "I used to see you suffer, but now I don't have to worry about you anymore."

Tan Deming poured Tan Delin a cup of ginseng tea: "It's all thanks to her own hard work. Her grandmother and I don't have any other skills; we can only help her take care of the house and make sure she has a hot meal when she comes home."

"We can't help her with her studies, so this is all we can do to take care of her."

Tan Delin laughed and said, "You only have one granddaughter, but she's worth ten sons for others. Fortunately, she's family. Who knows how far she'll go in the future?"

The two women were discussing building a house in the living room, while Wang Hu's wife was preparing ingredients in the kitchen, washing and chopping as needed. Seeing this, Tan Delin called his wife over as well, and the two old ladies began to chat quietly in the kitchen.

Tan You was awakened by a fragrant aroma. She twitched her nose and wondered why this didn't seem like Wang Hu Nu's cooking. It looked more like Grandma Gui Hua's signature dish, braised chicken in soy sauce.
