Chapter 24 Return to the Academy
The silence around us was terrifying.
Daylight is crushed by darkness, stars twinkle, and as night falls and the sun rises, the dew on the grass reflects the stiff figures of the crowd.
Shuang Youyou was covered with a cotton quilt that should have been placed in the tent. Ye Jingqiu and Shen Qingqing had changed her into clean clothes, and a white handkerchief was covering her face.
Ye Jingqiu leaned silently against the big tree, but his gaze remained fixed on Shuang Youyou.
Lu Si'en saw everything, took the bird eggs that Song Liyang had just baked, and walked towards her.
Ye Jingqiu suddenly felt a figure blocking the light beside her. She looked up blankly and saw a bird egg in front of her. "Lu Si'en?"
Lu Si'en placed the bird egg in Ye Jingqiu's hand, then sat down beside her. "You haven't eaten anything since yesterday, eat something."
"I can't eat." Ye Jingqiu lowered her head.
Lu Si'en narrowed his eyes and said, "I know you're upset, but that's just how it is in Douluo Continent—the strong prey on the weak. This isn't your fault."
"The relationship between soul beasts and humans is inherently like this; the relationship between hunter and prey can change at any time, it's either you die or I die."
Ye Jingqiu turned to look at Lu Si'en, "But she could have lived a good life. Did you see the knife on Thunder Tiger's body? Do you remember the group of people we encountered when we left the academy?"
Lu Si'en looked directly at Ye Jingqiu. "I remember."
"I think this matter is inextricably linked to them. It was originally a personal feud between me and them, but now innocent people have been dragged into it."
Lu Si'en said, "Then let's settle our scores and avenge our wrongs. Today's matter will be settled in blood. I will help you."
Ye Jingqiu turned her head and looked at Lu Si'en with some surprise. She had no evidence. Lu Si'en was always a very calm person and would not be so impulsive. But at this moment, he stood on her side without hesitation.
Ye Jingqiu nodded vigorously. "Song Baiyu, I will not let her go."
The midday sun is the most scorching, and when it shines on a person, it feels like being in a steamer.
Shuang Zuozuo successfully absorbed the spirit ring and stood up with a happy expression. "Thank you everyone for your help. I am now a Great Spirit Master."
But no one could laugh; their expressions were all extremely serious.
Shuang Zuozuo stared blankly at everyone and asked cautiously, "What happened?"
She then looked around in the crowd but couldn't find Shuang Youyou. Ye Jingqiu lowered her head and walked to the side, followed closely by Shen Qingqing. As the two left, the corpse on the ground was exposed in front of Shuang Zuozuo.
Shuang Zuozuo turned her head in disbelief to look at Xie Yue, who lowered his head to avoid her gaze.
Shuang Zuozuo stumbled forward, her hands trembling as she lifted the white cloth. Even though she could no longer be recognized as a human, Shuang Zuozuo still recognized Shuang Youyou at a glance.
The connection between bloodlines is not as simple as just physical appearance.
Shuang Zuozuo knelt beside Shuang Youyou, her hands trembling, wanting to touch her charred face, but they fell limply to her sides.
A mournful cry rang out, and Ye Jingqiu felt a pang of sadness. She quickly walked to the side and looked away.
Almost instantly, Lu Si'en's gaze fell on Ye Jingqiu, but this time he did not go over, but silently observed her condition.
"What's going on?" After a long while, Shuang Zuozuo's hoarse voice rang out.
Xie Yue stepped forward and told her the whole story, but he didn't mention that they suspected Song Baiyu and his group were behind it, since there was no concrete evidence.
Upon hearing this, Shuang Zuozuo immediately said, "It must have been done by that group of people. Zhang Wanhao was in the same class as my sister and me. We sisters are not very talented, but because we are sisters, we can use the Martial Soul Fusion Technique. Therefore, our cultivation speed is faster than his, and he has always held a grudge against us."
"We just refused him, and that guy is vindictive; it must be him!"
Seeing that Shuang Zuozuo was on the verge of a breakdown, Xie Yue quickly stepped forward to comfort her, "We will report this to the academy when we get back, and they will receive the punishment they deserve."
Shuang Zuozuo nodded vigorously, then lowered her head to look at Shuang Youyou, but Lu Sien did not miss the fleeting hatred in her eyes.
The group did not stay there for long. Now that Shuang Zuozuo had finished absorbing the soul rings, and they were in the Soul Hunter Forest, their teacher, who had been with them, was nowhere to be found.
To prevent a repeat of what had just happened, everyone quickly left. During this time, Xie Yue noticed that Shuang Zuo Zuo was struggling to carry Shuang You You on her back, so she offered to help.
But Shuang Zuozuo refused.
Compared to their relaxed state upon arrival, the group now appeared incredibly heavy-hearted.
Because of the two Zuo Zuos, the group's return journey was noticeably slower.

Ye Jingqiu stared at the academy gate, lost in thought for a moment.
Lu Si'en's eyes hadn't left Ye Jingqiu the whole way. Seeing her stop, he quickly walked up to her and asked in a low, worried voice, "What's wrong?"
Ye Jingqiu then came to his senses, shook his head, and said, "It's nothing."
As soon as they stepped into the gates of the Spirit Hall Academy, they saw Song Baiyu and the others standing not far away, while the teacher who had initially assigned the tasks was also standing in front of them, seemingly saying something.
When Song Baiyu saw Ye Jingqiu, the corners of his lips curled up, revealing a malicious smile.
Yan, who always had a fiery temper, didn't care about anything else and rushed forward, shouting, "You despicable and shameless scoundrels, did you bring that thousand-year-old soul beast here?"
Zhang Wanhao, the chubby boy next to Song Baiyu, spoke up, "What are you talking about? What thousand-year-old soul beast? We don't understand at all!" He then sneered.
Yan stepped forward and punched Zhang Wanhao in the face with all his might, instantly giving Zhang Wanhao a dark circle under his eye.
Zhang Wanhao gave a strange laugh, then turned to look at his teacher. "Teacher, the academy's rules stipulate that students cannot fight anywhere other than the Soul Fighting Arena. You were watching from the sidelines."
Yan, with his temper, couldn't stand this and went up to throw another punch.
Xie Yue quickly stepped forward and pulled him back, then turned to the teacher and said, "There was a slight accident in our team, and he's a bit emotionally unstable."
Yan glared angrily at Zhang Wanhao.
The teacher frowned and asked, "Are you familiar with the academy's rules?"
"I know," Xie Yue said.
"Since you knew, why did you fight in front of me? What do you mean by this?" The teacher looked at the two of them with a displeased expression.
Ye Jingqiu stared at the smug Song Baiyu for a long while, then stepped forward and casually tossed something to his teacher, saying, "So what if we fought today?"
