Chapter 9

: Translating at the Banquet

"Brother, Aunt Li from next door said she wants to introduce you to a wife, her cousin."

When Lu Chen returned home, he was playing with Xiao Yao in his arms and making her laugh when Lu Xiulian brought the dishes to the dining table and sat down and said...

"Let her introduce them."

Lu Chen always maintained an indifferent attitude towards such matters, letting things take their natural course without forcing anything.

Lu Chen settled Xiao Yao on the chair, told her to eat her meal before having snacks, and then the family began to eat dinner.

"Oh dear, it's everywhere!"

Lu Xiulian took out a cloth and wiped the rice grains off Xiaoyao's face. Xiaoyao always liked to bury her whole head in the rice bowl when she ate, which resulted in her face being covered with rice.

Xiao Yao was amused by Lu Xiulian, her little face twisting and turning.

Watching this scene, Lu Chen's heart was filled with tenderness. It's so good to have family by your side in this world.

Lu Chen had considered having his sister and Xiao Yao leave Shanghai, given his sensitive identity; any mishap could lead to the destruction of his family.

But with war raging outside, it's not safe to go anywhere. There's fighting everywhere, so Lu Chen can only feel at ease if he keeps them by his side.

Therefore, he had to be extremely cautious! He couldn't let the enemy find even the slightest opening!

"Brother, you're not getting any younger, it's time to settle down. Look how old Xiaoyao is!"

After tidying up Xiubu, Lu Xiulian began to worry about Lu Chen's important life events.

Lu Chen just listened and smiled without saying anything.

The meal finally ended amidst Xiao Yao's antics and her younger sister's nagging.

Afterwards, Lu Chen returned to his room, thinking about his next actions and plans.

Huang Dayong has now completely begun recruiting me, which is a good opportunity to investigate the arms trade thoroughly.

Lu Chen knew that as long as he could infiltrate between Huang Dayong and the Japanese army, the mission would be nearing its end.

Now, all Lu Chen needs to do is study Japanese diligently. Once he has mastered it and becomes Huang Dayong's translator, he can finally begin his own actions!

......

......

"I didn't expect this body to have such a high aptitude for Japanese. I mastered Japanese in just one month."

Walking down the street, Lu Chen was impressed that even if he were standing in front of a Japanese person right now, he could still have a fluent conversation.

In a full month, he had completely mastered the Japanese language.

Lu Chen first said goodbye to Yang Huaiyuan, telling him that he would no longer come to class, and then went to a park near the French Concession.

I stepped into the phone booth and dialed the number I remembered from the last time.

"Feed? Who?"

Zhang Xiaolin's worried voice came from the other end of the phone.

It's been over a month since the mouse last delivered a message. There's been no news for so long. Could something have happened?

"Boss, it's me. I'm here to report on the progress of the task."

Lu Chen hesitated for a moment, thinking that it shouldn't be a problem for him to call the leader directly.

If it weren't necessary, he really wouldn't want to take such a big risk to report, after all, he didn't know if Huang Dayong had someone watching him right now.

But I'm living with my sister now, and if people from the organization come to me again, the risk is still too great.

"A mouse? It's you!"

Zhang Xiaolin slammed his hand on the table and stood up abruptly. The rat, who had been out of contact for over a month, finally had news!

mouse?

Hearing the excited voice on the other end of the phone, Lu Chen paused for a moment. This must be his code name...

His lips twitched. Without even thinking, it must have been Wang Yan who said it. What kind of weird code name is this?

"Squeak squeak".

The mouse inside Lu Chen's sleeve suddenly squeaked twice, and for a moment Lu Chen felt that the mouse was saying that the code name suited him very well.

"Yes, it's me. I've recently mastered Japanese, and Huang Dayong invited me to be his translator. I've decided to infiltrate the enemy's ranks to better investigate this batch of weapons."

Lu Chen didn't think much of it. It was just a code name. In fact, the fewer people who knew his real name, the safer he would be.

Upon hearing Lu Chen's report, Zhang Xiaolin was surprised again. It turned out that the reason there had been no news of rats during this period was because he had gone to learn Japanese.

You learned Japanese so quickly? You're really got the makings of a spy!

"Good job, you did a great job. If you encounter any difficulties, be sure to tell the organization in time. The organization will help you solve anything that can be resolved!"

Lu Chen agreed, then hung up the phone. He looked around and, finding no one paying attention, turned and quickly left.

When Lu Chen arrived at the building again, he immediately spotted Huang Dayong's Lincoln. He walked over and knocked on the window.

"Big brother, I've learned Japanese now. Where's Brother Huang?"

There was only one driver in the car; Huang Dayong was nowhere to be seen.

Lu Chen decided to become Huang Dayong's translator for two reasons: first, to better complete the task, and second, to earn some extra money—a win-win situation!

"Brother Lu, I'm here."

As they were talking, Huang Dayong patted Lu Chen on the shoulder from behind.

The driver told Huang Dayong what Lu Chen had just told him, and Huang Dayong looked at Lu Chen with surprise.

"You learned it so quickly? Well done! Perfect timing, I'm going to a banquet tomorrow, come here early and I'll take you there."

Huang Dayong gave Lu Chen an appreciative look, gave him some more instructions, and then got into the car and drove away.

"Huang Dayong must have investigated me before, otherwise he wouldn't be so at ease."

Lu Chen stroked his chin and walked towards home.

From the first time Huang Dayong sent people to follow him, Lu Chen could tell that Huang Dayong must be a meticulous person.

So the reason he trusts me so much now must be because he has thoroughly investigated me.

"banquet?"

Lu Chen felt it must be a Japanese banquet, otherwise they wouldn't have brought him along as a translator.

Back home, Lu Chen first hid the pistol somewhere. He was going to a banquet with Huang Dayong the next day, and he knew he would be searched when he went in, so Lu Chen decided not to bring the gun.

"Wait for my signal tomorrow. Once you receive my signal, remember the scent of the person in front of me, understand?"

Lu Chen held the mouse in his hand and assigned it tasks for tomorrow.

"Squeak squeak".

The mouse squeaked several times, and Lu Chen, seeing that it had responded, then placed it on the ground.

As soon as it landed, the mouse couldn't wait to run to the corner by the wall, where there was a small broken bowl.

This is leftover food that Lu Chen specially prepared here to feed the rats.

Lu Xiulian had previously said that it was just some leftovers and should be thrown away, but Lu Chen said that he would be of great use to him, so he kept it.

After leaving the house and closing the door, Lu Chen went downstairs, and the family began to eat dinner.

Xiao Yao was at the age where she loved to play and make a fuss, and she was not well-behaved at the dinner table, which made Lu Chen laugh out loud. Lu Xiulian scolded her while feeding Xiao Yao.

The meal ended just like that. After washing up, Lu Chen lay on the bed, planning for tomorrow.

Huang Dayong's gathering with the Japanese must be related to business, and it must also have a significant connection to arms dealing.

After gathering intelligence tomorrow, I will report back to the organization. We will also need to find a way to infiltrate the Japanese army.

Lu Chen had a headache just thinking about these problems. In short, whatever decision he made now, he had to be very careful, because one wrong step would mean certain death!
