Chapter 14

Grimm's Travels and Rowling the Witch

Chapter 14 [Grimm's Travels] and [R.K. Rowling] (Please continue reading)

The first day of the new year in the year 1005 of the Holy Radiance Calendar.

Since the Rock Bear Knight and Frostwolf Knight were attacked, there have been occasional reports of evil spirit attacks in various places, but their authenticity is unknown.

In response to the recent spate of evil spirit attacks in various regions, the Church of Holy Light claims that one of its bishops has developed a holy water for exorcising evil spirits that is extremely effective: "Holy Light No. 1".

Simply take one bottle once every seven days, and after a month you will be immune to all evils.

Once the holy potion was released, it was priced at ten gold coins per bottle. The first batch of three thousand bottles sold out in a week, achieving an astonishing... zero negative reviews.

Regarding this behavior, Li Wei remarked that the nobles of this world are really easy to fool.

However, it's understandable, as I come from the modern world and naturally don't understand these people's fanatical faith in the church.

"Since that incident, the frequency of these evil spirits appearing has been increasing."

"Wizard, oh wizard, how can I find any trace of you?"

Li Wei was rummaging through some parchment books in his father's study. At this point in time, there was no papermaking or printing technology in this world.

Therefore, even in an aristocratic family like my father's, the collection of books in the house was very limited.

In the end, nothing was gained.

Sir Fred rushed into the study, his face beaming with excitement, and said to Levi, "Young Master, I've brought you a birthday present you'd never expect."

Li Wei was curious to see the usually composed Sir Fred so excited. He saw Sir Fred order his men to push a wheeled cage covered with a curtain.

Knight Fred lifted the curtain, revealing three furry creatures huddled in the corner.

"A bear?" Li Wei's expression was strange.

Before him stood three bears, each the size of a calf.

Why would Sir Fred give himself three bears?

"Young master, this is no ordinary bear; it's a cub of a giant northern bear."

"What? A giant bear from the North?" Li Wei exclaimed in surprise.

He had heard of this thing; it was a beast that, once fully grown, rivaled even a full-fledged knight.

"Last night, a farmer's wife discovered something had sneaked into her yard and was eating her chickens. Then she found this little guy. The little guy tried to run away, but was caught by the militiamen on patrol. Don't underestimate this little baby; it took a lot of effort to catch him."

Knight Fred picked out one of the black and white teddy bears, grabbed it by the scruff of its neck, and the bear bared its teeth and claws, trying to attack Fred, but to no avail.

There were still some chicken feathers around the little bear's mouth. It's hard to imagine that such a small creature would one day become the infamous giant bear of the North.

The other two bear cubs whimpered, seemingly worried about their brother.

None of the three bear cubs are fat; for a bear, they are practically skin and bones.

It was clear that they had been starving for a long time, and if they hadn't been discovered by Sir Fred, they probably would have starved to death in a few days.

"Where is their mother? Will she come looking for us by following the scent of the cubs?" Li Wei was a little worried. He was no match for the giant bears of the North now.

"Don't worry, it looks like their mother is probably dead or abandoned them a long time ago. This is usually the time when bears hibernate, so if they're not in their dens at this time, it means something happened to their mother."

"If these Northern Giant Bear cubs were put on the black market, they would be worth more than a hundred gold coins each. Many nobles and royalty would like to tame these beasts from a young age, so that when they grow up, they can have a powerful knight-level pet."

"However, I suggest we raise them ourselves. Northern giant bear cubs are a rare sight, but feeding them is quite expensive."

Knight Fred was in a good mood and strongly urged Levi to adopt the three bear cubs.

"Alright, let's keep them. Put them in the castle for now and have some people take good care of them." Li Wei came to the three bear cubs, carefully examined them, and said, "This gray one will be called Little Gray, that white one will be called Little White, and this mixed-breed one will be called... Little Fatty, since it's the fattest one."

Li Wei instructed his servants to take good care of the bear cubs. These little guys would need at least seven years before they could be of any use, and given that they were wild, it was uncertain whether they could even survive. Therefore, he couldn't pin his hopes on these external things; improving his own strength was the most important thing.

After seeing the howling bear off, Levi looked at Knight Fred and asked, "Lord Fred, how's your search for books about wizards going?"

Fred laughed, "You're really interested in wizards, aren't you? Don't worry, I've already sent people to look for them. They're mostly just biographies of wandering knights or stories from novels, nothing to take seriously. I found a book here, which I got from a traveling merchant. It records a legend about a wizard. You can take a look."

Sir Fred handed over a scroll of parchment, which was very old and worn.

Grimm's Travels

The author is a person who calls himself "Green," which is obviously a pseudonym, and no one knows who he is.

Li Wei returned to his room, opened the travelogue, and began reading it from the beginning.

Green himself described himself as a traveling merchant. His travelogue is not very long, mainly recording some strange and unusual things he heard on his journey, including one about wizards.

"In the year 847 of the Holy Radiance Calendar, on the sea east of Stormwind City in the Emerald Kingdom, the merchant ship I was on wrecked by a storm. I clung to a plank of wood and prayed to the Father of Heaven, asking to survive this disaster. Perhaps my devout faith moved the Father of Heaven, and I survived. I was washed ashore on an unnamed island. I didn't know where I was. I was starving and thirsty, so I searched for food everywhere on the island. Then I saw many magical creatures that defied my imagination."

"There was a three-legged toad with a beautiful woman's face on its back; there was a swan with six pairs of wings, pure and beautiful, like a twelve-winged angel beside the legendary Father of Heaven; and there was a red mushroom that could run, and damn it, that thing could even talk! It even tore off a piece of its own flesh and fed it to me. After eating the mushroom, I drifted off to sleep, and I vaguely remember a beautiful lady sitting beside me..."

"I don't remember what happened after that. When I woke up, I was back on a fishing boat. The fishermen said they found me floating on a plank and rescued me. I think I might have encountered a legendary wizard. Only wizards would research and create such strange creatures. Moreover, I found that after eating the flesh and blood of that mushroom, the chronic illness that had plagued me for many years disappeared. I was younger and stronger than before. This must be the power of magic. The witch saved me! Later, I made a lot of money in business and wanted to go to that island to find that beautiful witch. However, the island seemed to have vanished into thin air. I went to sea seven times, but all my attempts ended in failure, until now my hair has turned gray."

"To go to sea, I became penniless again, and my relatives and friends abandoned me. They said I was crazy, but I knew I wasn't. I really met the wizard. I rallied my strength, sold my mansion in the royal city, and I was determined to go to sea for the eighth time. Before this voyage, I wrote down everything I had experienced and self-published one hundred copies. If I don't find the legendary wizard, I hope that those who read this book will continue the search."

"Oh, right, I vaguely remember that in the conversation between the red mushroom and the beautiful witch, the mushroom called the witch...Ms. Rowling."
