Chapter 35

The Lord of Shadows and the Phantom Knight

Chapter 35 [Lord of Shadows] and [Phantom Knight] (Please continue reading)

Formal knights are of paramount importance to any noble power in the kingdom.

Even without his own territory, Li Wei could rely on his own strength to join the territories of other nobles, become their knight, and pledge allegiance to them.

But Li Wei, who was used to being a lord, certainly didn't want to be someone else's slave. He had had enough of being a capitalist's dog in his previous life.

In this life, he never wants to live by relying on other people's opinions like he did in his previous life.

"Breaking through to Knight level is something to celebrate. I won't be training today; I'll have the twin maids give me a massage tonight."

Under all kinds of pressure, Li Wei was like a machine that never stopped, practicing like crazy, working himself to the bone, forging iron, and making money.

Although it's incredibly fulfilling, people aren't machines, and they'll get tired eventually.

Today he felt it was time to relax for a few days. He didn't plan to practice breathing techniques for the next few days; he would just sleep and practice the Golden Cross Slash again.

A balance between work and rest is essential for a good life.

Cultivation is not the goal; longevity and living freely and unrestrained are the goals. Cultivation is merely a tool.

That evening, Li Wei soaked in the bathtub, having broken through to become a formal knight and expelled a lot of toxins. The twin maids massaged Li Wei's muscles all over his body, one on each side.

"Young Master, your body is too hard and rough, it hurts my hands." Ariel pouted, inadvertently revealing some of her chest, and said in a coquettish voice.

"Take a rest if you're tired. Let your sister take over. You two can take turns." Li Wei closed his eyes, enjoying the rare moment of peace.

Nothing happened that night. After taking a bath, Li Wei returned to his bedroom to rest.

"I hope Knight Fred has a safe journey."

Li Wei was still thinking about Sir Fred, not about the goods worth several hundred gold coins.

Sir Frederick was Levi's only remaining family member in the world, and he didn't want to lose him.

And so, Li Wei fell into a deep sleep.

……

The night was starry and all was quiet.

In the darkness, a figure clad entirely in black night clothes slipped into Blackwater Valley like a ghost. He arrived at the side of Black Serpent Castle, stood in the valley, and gazed at the towering castle built against the mountain, talking to himself.

"This castle is in a good location, easy to defend and difficult to attack, but unfortunately, it's just a decoration for me."

"After waiting for seven days, the Serpent Rider has finally left."

"Heh, Baron Levi, I, the 'Phantom Knight,' will accept your head without hesitation."

This person, dressed in night clothes and simple leather armor, was extremely agile. He was the Phantom Knight, a heartless assassin from an assassin organization whose members were spread throughout the kingdom: the Voice of the Deathbird.

This is an organization similar to an assassin guild, scattered throughout the country, and obeying the organization's five supreme leaders.

The targets of assassination can be commoners, nobles, or even formal knights and members of the royal family. As long as you pay enough, some powerful assassins will take action to complete your mission.

The Phantom Knight was one of the assassins, mainly carrying out assassination missions in the area around Icewind City. Some time ago, he received an assassination mission from a broker for a big client. The client was of very high status, and he didn't even know who the client was, but he didn't care who it was.

As long as the money is right, even if he's a formal knight, the Phantom Knight will find a way to take him down.

As a wandering knight, the Phantom Knight had no worries. After killing someone, he would flee thousands of miles away, and no one could catch him.

Since his debut, he has successfully completed numerous assassination missions.

The assassination list included a baron, three noble apprentices, a countess, and even two knights.

Therefore, he didn't think assassinating Li Wei would be difficult, after all, Li Wei's profligacy and cowardice were well-known in some circles familiar with the Black Serpent Knight.

However, a truly dedicated assassin will go to great lengths, even to kill a hundred-year-old woman.

Therefore, the Phantom Knight was fully armed, with grappling hooks, daggers, poison, quicklime, and everything else.

He cautiously approached the castle, where soldiers were patrolling below.

Under the cover of darkness, he surveyed the surroundings and decided to use a grappling hook to climb over the wall with the fewest soldiers, find Li Wei's bedroom, quickly assassinate the sleeping Li Wei, and then take Li Wei's head to collect the commission.

"A perfect plan," the Phantom Knight thought with a cold smile.

He found the weakest point in the defenses, and beneath that high wall, there was only a drowsy soldier.

He slowly approached, relying on his agility and skill to circle around to the soldier's back.

"By the Lord of Shadows." The Phantom Knight did not worship the merciful Father of Heaven, but a very obscure Lord of Shadows.

This deity's authority is killing, deception, and shadow; he is the object of faith for most assassins and a small number of conspirators and politicians.

Then, he cleanly and efficiently dealt with the soldier. The soldier was just an ordinary person. Although he had received training, he was far inferior to a formal knight like the Phantom Knight.

The soldier's body quickly grew cold in the season when the north winds came.

The Phantom Knight ignored the corpse; after all, he would have vanished into the wilderness before sunrise the next day.

Using the grappling hook, he vaulted over the high wall, leaped down lightly, and landed perfectly. He gracefully dusted himself off and then raised his head.

He then discovered three enormous shadowy figures, curiously observing him.

These three shadowy figures are none other than the three brothers, Little White, Little Gray, and Little Fatty.

Behind this weakest point in the defenses of the high wall lies the three brothers' bear enclosure!

The Phantom Knight never imagined that one day he would come face to face with a three-headed giant bear after infiltrating the castle.

"Damn it, that damned bastard Li Wei is raising a bear in the castle! By the Lord of Shadows, this isn't just any bear, it's a giant bear from the North, though it looks like it's still a child."

The Phantom Knight exclaimed inwardly.

The three brothers were also completely bewildered. When the Phantom Knight was outside, they smelled an unfamiliar scent approaching the castle.

Livy's training of them included familiarizing them with the scent of every soldier and servant in the castle, so that they could sense any strangers approaching immediately.

Therefore, the Phantom Knight thought he had infiltrated perfectly, but little did he know that he had already been discovered by the three brothers.

Now, he faces the attack of three giant bears from the North. Although they are still cubs, this makes even a formal knight like the Phantom Knight feel a sense of tension.

"Damn it, we need more money after this mission!"
