Chapter 37
The Limitations of Magical Senses
Chapter 37 The Limitations of Magical Senses
Privet Road, Little Huigkin District, Surrey County.
Now, a week into the holiday, Avada has returned to the orphanage and reunited with his friends and caregivers. They asked him about his life at school, and he shared some interesting experiences that didn't involve magic, such as the "baking club" and the "super fierce chemistry teacher."
However, he always had a feeling that he had forgotten something very important.
Then, when he bought a train ticket alone and arrived in Surrey, wanting to see the savior in advance and make a pilgrimage, he remembered something he had forgotten—he had forgotten to remove the thread from his wand while he was still in school.
So, on this journey, he could only leave his wand at the orphanage and arrived at Privet Drive empty-handed. Without a wand, he cast an Illusion Charm on himself, and while observing Harry Potter seemingly washing dishes through the window, he felt a pang of emotion:
His "magical senses" are not omnipotent.
Although theoretically this ability allows him to perceive the magical structure of all things in the world, there are always some things that he cannot see despite having studied magic.
For example, time, fate, and love.
Although the magical world already has magic that involves these areas, such as time converters and divination, Avada has never observed any structure in magic that could possibly symbolize these.
Moreover, he searched for a year but couldn't find the curse that Voldemort had placed on his position as a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
He didn't understand why mental power could be split through killing.
The scene before him made him realize how limited his abilities were—Harry Potter, who was right in his field of vision, appeared to him to be a perfectly normal person!
There was no sign of being possessed by other soul fragments, nor were there any protective spells on his body!
If it weren't for the fact that his mental strength was similar to Professor Baker's, giving him a slight sense of incongruity, he would have doubted whether he had traveled to the wrong world!
He had been looking forward to seeing that powerful protective spell that could replenish its power through blood relatives and even reflect the Avada Kedavra curse, but he never expected it to end up like this.
This made him sigh, feeling a bit of a headache—things were getting more difficult.
In Voldemort's plan to bury Harry Potter, the fragment of his soul was the most difficult part to deal with. To destroy that fragment, Voldemort would have to wait until Harry turned seventeen, after the protective charm left by Lily had worn off, and then personally cast an Avatar Killing Curse on him. But if he did that, he would have to watch Voldemort resurrect, cause trouble, and kill people... How would that differ from the original stories?
That's why Avada was so eager to develop magic that could destroy Horcruxes without damaging the object itself. But today, he discovered he couldn't even find Voldemort's soul. In other words, even if the magic were successfully developed, it probably wouldn't work on Harry…
"If only we could capture and seal away Voldemort's remnant soul next semester, we'd have plenty of time..."
"Ha, how could that be? Even Dumbledore couldn't do it." Thinking of this, he couldn't help but laugh at himself.
The first book in the original series was actually a scheme orchestrated by Dumbledore specifically to trap and kill Voldemort. From bringing the Philosopher's Stone into the school, to recruiting Quirrell, to the defenses that first-year students could easily defeat—it was all child's play… no, it was child's play… But even so, Voldemort still managed to escape from Dumbledore's grasp.
Just how fast can that guy run?
Forget it, I'll just stick to putting the poison in Voldemort's father's ashes.
Frustrated, Avada lifted the illusion spell and turned to walk towards the station—it seemed this trip had been in vain.
"Voldemort's weakest moment was right in front of me, why couldn't I take advantage of it? Seal... seal..."
Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks and froze.
He came up with a very, very, very bold plan.
He was so audacious that he even suspected the Sorting Hat had put him in the wrong house.
……
Compared to life at Hogwarts, summer vacation at the orphanage was so ordinary, simple, and boring—but Avada still enjoyed the atmosphere; wasn't that what he wanted to kill Voldemort for?
Every day, I would play with my peers, tutor the younger ones, show off the cooking skills I learned at Hufflepuff in the evening, lock my room door after returning home, and secretly complete my Hogwarts summer homework... And so, the time finally came to mid-August.
"Hey, Avada, someone's looking for you outside. They say they're your friend. Is it the one you mentioned... Baron Shafik?"
Avada instinctively shuddered. He was so used to being called "Ken" at school, and coupled with his recent frantic scheming against Voldemort, he was now somewhat unaccustomed to even his real name.
"Baron? He's here? Just a moment, I'll be right there..."
Avada thanked his friend who had delivered the message, picked up his suitcase, and went downstairs. A few days ago, Baron had written to him saying that his parents welcomed Avada to visit and invited him to go to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies for the new semester. Since there was no restriction on casting spells during holidays in pure-blood families, Avada was happy to accept and packed his luggage.
As soon as he went downstairs, he saw Baron standing in front of a black sedan, surrounded by several orphanage children who seemed to be chatting happily with him. Beside him was a short, well-dressed old man, whose unnatural vitality suggested he was Shafik's house-elf in disguise; he just didn't know where he got that outfit.
"Ken, over here!"
Baron spotted Avada as soon as he stepped out the door, and immediately waved and shouted in a voice that was not loud but still audible.
"I am coming."
Avada chuckled and walked up with his luggage: "What are you guys talking about?"
"Oh, school, huh? Haha, that's really interesting..."
"Pharmacy class? Uh... that's the chemistry class I was talking about, the one with the super fierce professor. That's what they call it in the local dialect of Baron..."
"No, no, we're from different colleges. His side isn't as good at baking as ours, but he has many other strengths, and he even won this year's championship..."
"A broomstick? That's what Baron calls it? Hahahaha..."
"Of course there are astronomy classes! Every Wednesday night we go to the Astronomy Tower and use the telescopes there to observe the stars... That's why I say this school is different."
"That old principal from last time? He didn't cut his beard; he liked that look..."
After chatting with the children for a while and watching them leave satisfied, Avada rubbed his forehead and said to Baron with a wry smile, "Well, I'm glad you're aware of the importance of keeping secrets, but calling it 'broomball' is a bit... If you really can't, just make up something like 'football' or 'basketball'."
"Thank goodness you covered for me, otherwise I would have been exposed sooner or later."
Baron, catching his breath after surviving the ordeal, reached out to the short old man beside him: "I haven't introduced you yet. This is Charlie, my family's house-elf, in charge of hygiene and daily life."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Charlie."
Avada greeted him, earning a smile from the old elf: "Just call me Charlie, Mr. Ken. Wizards don't need to use honorifics for house-elves."
"Alright, Mr. Ken, please hand over your luggage to me and get in the car with Young Master Baron—it should take about fifteen minutes to reach our destination."
He opened the back door and gestured for the passengers to enter.
Avada nodded and was about to hand the luggage to Charlie when she suddenly paused and asked, "By the way, I always carry a wand. If this vehicle were to use any magic, would it be detected by the tracking system?"
"Don't worry, Tracking isn't that capable."
Before Charlie could speak, Baron explained directly and then got into the car first. Avada was relieved and followed him in—the interior space seemed to have been expanded, appearing much more spacious than it looked from the outside, and the chairs were very comfortable.
"Please be seated, we're about to depart."
With Charlie's prompting, Avada heard a slight buzzing sound coming from the back of the car, followed by a loud bang, and then the view outside the window changed abruptly.
