Chapter 60

The Essence of Horcruxes and Halloween

Chapter 60 The Essence of Horcruxes and Halloween

The third part of the book is a supplementary report to the second part, which studies the nature of Horcrux magic based on the phenomenon of "Death Power". After enduring the discomfort of reading this article, Avada finally understood why Professor Beck said that he "did not need to make Horcruxes in such an evil way".

The so-called "soul splitting through killing" actually involves using the power of death generated at the moment of the victim's death to tear off a part of one's own soul while extracting the soul of the deceased. Because one's main soul is still protected by spiritual power and life force, the torn soul fragments will not be extracted by the power of death, but will continue to remain in the world.

According to the analysis of mental energy structure, the mental energy during a "malicious murder" happens to meet a certain condition, making a portion of the mental energy near the soul's origin quite weak. This allows the soul to be torn apart by another force of death when the distance is close enough. This is why the original versions of Horcruxes required malicious killing, thus becoming the infamous most evil magic.

After cracking this principle, as long as another meditation method is designed, the restriction of "malice" can be bypassed directly, and even the condition of "killing" can be bypassed. Theoretically speaking, even if you stand next to a dying person and perform this meditation method, you can split your soul through his death power.

After finishing reading the third chapter of the book, Avada closed it and decided not to continue reading for the time being.

The knowledge in the book was still somewhat difficult for him to understand at his current level. Forcing himself to study it would take too much time and easily affect his main tasks. Moreover, he genuinely didn't want to read much of the content. Although he knew emotionally that knowledge was innocent and that the guilty researchers had been arrested by Professor Baker, he couldn't overcome his emotional aversion.

"call……"

Avada took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down before packing his things and leaving the Room of Requirement. He headed straight to the kitchen, intending to make some sweets to lift his spirits—although the Ecstasy Potion was more effective, it was like alcohol, addictive if consumed in excess, and besides, his condition wasn't that serious yet…

Then, as usual, he easily found himself in front of the painting next to the Hufflepuff common room. He gently scratched the green pear, which chuckled softly and then puffed outwards, transforming into a doorknob. Avada turned the handle and pulled it outwards—

"Be careful, wear gloves!"

"Don't touch the hot syrup directly...it's awful to get that stuff on you!"

"Milk! Does anyone have any extra milk?"

"We're running out of fruit vinegar... Wait a minute, I'll go get some more from the wooden barrels."

"Summers, come quick, this oven seems to be malfunctioning..."

As soon as Avada opened the door, he saw a bustling scene: Hufflepuff students were busy in the kitchen with their house-elves, some carrying ingredients, some mixing a bunch of bottles and jars, and others watching closely the color of the food in the pots or ovens...

"What are you doing?"

Avada was dumbfounded.

"Of course it's Halloween!"

The guy who was about to go to the barrel by the lounge to get vinegar was about to pass by him, and after hearing his question, he looked surprised: "You forgot? Tomorrow is Halloween, and we have to prepare desserts for the dinner party—although this is generally the job of house-elves, Professor Sprout always allows interested and timed students to make something they're good at and present it on everyone's table... Excuse me."

After Avada dodged to the side, the man carrying a large bucket jogged to the pile of barrels and started randomly banging on several lids. The next moment, one of the lids suddenly burst open, spilling a large amount of pale yellow liquid, but he had anticipated this and used his wand to hold it in mid-air before steadily scooping it into the bucket. His method was quite skillful.

"Luckily, it's apple cider vinegar."

The man sniffed the aroma from the bucket, nodded in satisfaction, and then turned to Avada, asking, "Want some? The apple cider vinegar tastes quite good on its own."

"...Thank you."

Avada used his wand to pick up a ball of vinegar, and without using a cup, as if he were in space, he simply separated a small portion of the floating vinegar ball and tossed it into his mouth. The sweet and sour taste immediately gave him a jolt, invigorating him considerably and gradually dispelling his bad mood.

"Are you still short-staffed? Do you need my help?"

"That's great! I just need someone to help me make the syrup..."

"Excuse me, may I bother you? Are you alright here?"

Avada turned his head and saw a student, probably a first-grader, standing timidly at the kitchen doorway, peeking out curiously, trying to see what was inside.

"That's me, so what?"

He apologized to the senior student who was carrying the apple cider vinegar, and then asked the student.

"Professor Quirrell asked me to pass on a message to you, saying that if you have time now, please come to his office."

"I understand, thank you—would you like some apple cider vinegar?"

……

After the student, wriggling and jumping around from the sourness, Avada simply tossed the last bit of vinegar into his mouth, then walked away, pondering why Quirrell or Voldemort wanted to see him at this hour.

"What happened during Halloween...?"

He hadn't read Harry Potter for a full twelve years. Even though he remembered most of the plot and settings, he couldn't be sure if it was broken down into monthly timelines.

"However, if we follow the storyline, the first semester is already halfway over, and some important events should be happening by now, such as Snape being bitten by a dog, a troll attack, or a Quidditch match..."

"But none of these are my turn!"

He shook his head, puzzled, and went to the third floor to knock on the door of the defense spell office, then activated the Occupy Central spell.

crunch--

A few seconds later, the office door slowly opened, revealing Quirrell's gentle smiling face and his mind, still dominated by Voldemort's dark golden mental energy.

"Professor Quirrell, you wanted to see me?"

He walked into the office, closed the door behind him, and asked.

"They arrived very quickly."

Voldemort gave him an approving look, then pulled out a chair for him to sit down as usual: "I've called you here today to ask you for a favor."

"Can I help you?"

Avada was startled, but still asked eagerly, "Is there anything I can do to help you, Professor?"

"Of course."

Voldemort nodded in satisfaction—Leggedness of the Mind was quite taxing on him in his current state, so after "seeing through" Avada's mind, he rarely used Legilimency on her anymore.

Then he opened his desk drawer and took out a small cardboard box, barely bigger than an eraser: "I want you to put this box in the basement classroom tomorrow at the Halloween party—and be discreet about it, and don't tell anyone."

"Why is that, Professor?"

"Tomorrow's Halloween, and as a professor, I naturally want to give my students a little surprise," Voldemort chuckled. "And a surprise, of course, has to be a secret; otherwise, what kind of surprise is it?"

"I understand. So, what should I do after I put the box away tomorrow?"

"Just come back and continue attending the banquet; don't worry about anything else."

"I understand... Is there anything else, Professor?"

"It's alright, you can go back... Oh, and I also have to tell you, as a reward for helping me, I'll teach you some more interesting magic in the lessons after Halloween, some of which I even developed myself."

"Thank you, Professor!"

Avada left the Defense Against the Dark Arts office with a look of delight, then stared at the small box he had just received with a twisted expression. The good mood brought on by the apple cider vinegar vanished instantly.

Inside is a sleeping giant.
