Chapter 18

focuses on speedruns.

Before Yun Yu could think, Melba seemed to have been waiting for her for a long time. It let out a piercing scream and then pounced on Yun Yu.

Melba swooped down at an astonishing speed; the gale-force winds whipped up by its enormous wings snapped lampposts and houses in half, and countless vehicles were swept into the air.

"Sylvias!"

No matter how fast Melba was, Yun Yu had already grasped the Sylius Star Chart the moment he saw Melba. As Melba got closer and closer, Yun Yu no longer hesitated and transformed decisively.

In the dilapidated street, a blinding light suddenly erupted, and a silver-red pillar of light shot into the sky.

The next instant, a pair of giant hands precisely grasped Melba's swooping beak, forcefully cutting off its momentum.

As the light faded, Sirius stood firmly in place, his arm muscles tense, straining with both arms to try and break Melba's beak off. But at that moment, Melba's eyes suddenly shone with a blinding yellow light, and a scorching Melbanik ray shot out, heading straight for Sirius's face.

Sirius was forced to let go, narrowly dodging to the side. The ray grazed his shoulder and blasted a deep trench in the ground. Before Melba could recover, Sirius charged forward again.

He dared not give Melbara a chance to create distance; the monster's flight speed was as high as Mach 6, and once it took off, he would only be dragged down by an endless tug-of-war.

Before Melba could aim again, Sirius reached out and grabbed its sharp beak. This time, instead of trying to break it off, he exerted force upwards, forcefully turning its head toward the sky.

Caught off guard, Melba's beam of light blasted straight into the clouds, exploding into a blinding spark in the night sky.

Taking advantage of the moment when it could not emit light, Sirius channeled light energy into his other hand and delivered a powerful chop to Melba's soft abdomen.

"Awooo—!"

Melba let out a piercing scream, its wings flapping wildly, and its scythe-like claws swung fiercely toward Sirius's shoulder.

This was Sirius's second real battle. He had rehearsed the rhythm of the attack countless times in his mind, but ultimately neglected the defense.

The claws slammed into his shoulder, but fortunately the breastplate absorbed most of the force. However, the intense pain still spread through his nerves, and light particles, like blood, kept oozing from his shoulder, slowly sliding down the patterns on the shoulder armor. Fortunately, the blow did not completely drain his strength.

Sylius gritted his teeth and continued his pursuit, abandoning his fancy moves. He pressed one hand firmly against Melba's head, grabbed its swung claws with the other, and slammed his knee into its abdomen like a hammer.

Melba flapped its wings desperately, trying to break free from the close-quarters combat, but its proud speed was useless at this moment.

Sirius's strength was comparable to its own, and it clung to it tightly. The excruciating pain in its abdomen made it difficult to exert any force, and it could only be knocked backward on the ground, its shrieks filled with pain and resentment.

Just as Melba was being pushed back by Sirius and was losing consciousness, its survival instinct was fully activated, and its wings suddenly flapped wildly against the ground.

The enormous wing membrane whipped up a shower of debris, which crashed into the surroundings with a sharp, piercing sound.

As an Ultraman, these injuries were negligible to Sirius, but the wind generated by the wings was so strong that Sirius had to stop his movements and steady himself.

Taking advantage of the instant Sirius's attack ceased, Melba, with a sudden burst of strength, broke free from Sirius's grasp. With a powerful flap of its wings, its massive body shot into the air like an arrow, desperately fleeing into the sky.

Sirius remained calm. He carefully observed Melba's flight path, never expecting that his shooting skills, honed over the past few days, would come in handy so quickly.

"Hmph, trying to escape?!"

Almost instinctively, he took a step forward, quickly crossed his hands in front of his chest, and light energy gathered along his arms, his palms shining with a dazzling pale golden light.

He knew that once Melba took off, its Mach 6 speed would put him in a completely passive position.

The cross-shaped light dart formed instantly, shooting straight out with a sharp whistling sound, and accurately nailed to the membrane on Melba's left wing.

"Eh-!!!"

A piercing shriek tore through the night sky as the light dart pierced the membrane of Melba's left wing. Its body suddenly froze, its massive wings lost their balance, and its upward momentum abruptly ceased. Like a broken kite, it crashed heavily onto the open ground in the distance, raising a cloud of dust.

Before Melba could get up, Sirius suddenly crossed his arms in front of his chest, and countless dazzling points of light burst forth around him—Sirius Photon Rays!

A pale blue beam of light shot out and blasted straight at Melba, who was lying on the ground.

Bang!

The violent explosion instantly engulfed the monster's body, the flames illuminated half the night sky, and debris and black smoke shot into the sky. When the light dissipated, Melba had already turned into ashes in the explosion.

At this moment, Sirius's energy indicator light began to flash red, and light particles continued to seep from the wound on his shoulder torn by the claws.

At this moment, Sirius staggered a few steps, clutching his wound that was still oozing light particles.

Don't let it leak, or you'll become anemic.

The pale golden light slowly faded from Sirius's body, and his enormous form transformed into tiny particles of light that dissipated into the night sky.

As the enormous figure vanished, Yun Yu staggered and fell into the ruins of the convenience store. As soon as she landed, she was struck by a dizzying sensation. The wound on her shoulder was still throbbing, and the remnants of golden light particles were attached to the wound, barely stopping the bleeding.

He tried to get up by supporting himself on the ground, but the gravel that his fingertips touched suddenly became illusory, slowly spreading like ink stains soaked in water.

The screams of Melba before his death, the roar of photon rays, and the deafening crash of the collapsing streets seemed to be slowed down, the sounds gradually lengthening and distorting until they finally turned into a muffled buzzing.

The surrounding scenery began to distort in a bizarre way. Fragments of glass that had been blown away flew back to the door frame and slowly pieced themselves back together in the airflow. Broken lampposts bounced off the ground, and broken houses seemed to snap back together automatically as if they were alive.

Overturned cars and trash cans slowly rose into the air amidst the dust and smoke whipped up by the gale, then gently fell back to their original positions. The tire tracks and potholes on the ground were smoothed out at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Yun Yu blinked. The convenience store, which had just been shattered by Melba's wings, was now back to normal. The glass door was intact, the snacks on the shelves were neatly arranged, and the barcode scanner on the checkout counter was still glowing with a faint green light, as if the raging storm that had swept everything had never existed.

He looked down at his shoulder; the huge wound was still there, as if to say that it was not a lie, that he had indeed just fought Melba.
