Chapter 5
Capturing the Barbarians
This sudden battle seems to have entered a period of stagnation.
But Ye Wei'an thought differently. His gaze shifted to the leader of the thieves, the bare-chested barbarian.
Seeing that things were going badly, the man had already swung his sword and smashed through a guard blocking his way, and was galloping wildly towards the direction of the unclaimed warhorse in the distance, clearly wanting to escape as well.
"Knight Kane! Stop him!" Ye Wei'an immediately ordered. "I want him alive! The same goes for the others, capture as many prisoners as possible!"
There are too many suspicious points about this attack; he needs to figure out what happened.
"Yes, sir!" Kane didn't hesitate, spurring his horse forward to intercept him, while simultaneously calling to two nearby guards with shields, "Surround him with me!"
The barbarian's eyes flashed with ferocity as he saw his path blocked.
"Get the hell out of my way!" he roared, and the heavy greatsword in his hand slashed out with a terrifying whoosh.
boom!boom!
The two guards who were trying to surround the enemy with their shields were hit hard, and they were knocked back several steps by the brute force, almost falling over.
Knight Kane thrust his longsword straight at his opponent, but the sword was deflected with a backhand strike, leaving his arm numb from the impact.
The leader was incredibly strong; even when cornered, he couldn't stop him for a moment.
Ye Wei'an frowned slightly.
The Purple Dragon Knight is a branch class of the Warrior. Both are at level 3, but the Purple Dragon Knight is better at commanding and forming battle formations. In terms of pure strength, it can't defeat a basic Barbarian.
Moreover, so far, the Barbarian has not used his most trump card, "Rage".
It seems that Kane and his guards alone cannot hold back the bandit leader; he will have to take matters into his own hands.
However, relying solely on cursed fire is not enough to stop the barbarians in front of them.
The cursed fire is too lethal; it would be bad if it burned him to death.
To capture him alive, we must cooperate with Knight Kane.
Fortunately, he has the ability of telepathy, so he doesn't need to worry about the issue of tacit understanding.
Ye Wei'an had a sudden thought and tried to direct his thoughts toward the knight who was fighting hard.
(Kane, can you hear me? It's me, Yevian Xiaxing. I'll support you with magic. Listen to my signal.)
A familiar voice suddenly rang in his mind, startling the knight who was parrying with all his might, and he was almost struck by the barbarian's blade.
He barely managed to parry the massive sword that was cleaving through the air, then turned in astonishment to look at Ye Weian on the roof of the carriage.
Ye Wei'an nodded slightly to him.
(That's right, that's the effect of my magic. To reply, just think about it in your mind.)
The knight immediately understood—mages' methods are always unpredictable, this must be some kind of communication magic.
He steadied his breathing, maneuvering against his opponent while responding in his mind.
(I understand, Young Master Ye Wei'an. Please hurry, he's too strong, I can't hold on for long!)
With the communication completed, Ye Wei'an turned his gaze back to the bandit leader.
The knight's brief moment of distraction gave the barbarian an opportunity; after a short pause to gather his strength, he unleashed a powerful slash.
clang--
Barely managing to withstand the heavy blow, Kane was left numb all over, his movements slowed by half a beat.
Seizing this fleeting opening, the burly man twisted and prepared to charge towards the warhorse—
This guy is cunning beyond his wild nature.
Unfortunately, Ye Wei'an's spell was already prepared:
"Silver Light's Sharp Words!"
The next moment, at the edge of the barbarian's vision, a mysterious silver light appeared without warning.
The light carried a bewitching power, drawing his gaze involuntarily away, causing him to momentarily lose his senses.
(Now!)
The knight noticed that the numbness in his arm from the shock of the block had suddenly subsided. At the same time, he had a strange "intuition"—he could clearly "see" the openings his opponent had made due to distraction.
"That's right, now!"
Kane roared, his longsword thrusting out and cutting through the barbarian's opening, the blade piercing through muscle and going straight for his lung!
"Uh—ho!"
It wasn't until the excruciating pain struck that the bandit leader realized what had happened.
He had overestimated the effect of the heavy blow. The knight, who was as stubborn as a leech, recovered much faster than he had expected and accurately seized upon his momentary lapse in concentration.
The penetrating lung injury brought excruciating pain and suffocation, but it also ignited the ferocity in his bones.
At this point, all calculations and retreats were thrown to the back of his mind. The rage of his barbarian bloodline erupted completely. His eyes were bloodshot, and a beast-like growl escaped his throat. Ignoring his injuries, he swung his greatsword with both hands and slashed down with all his might towards Kane, wanting nothing more than to chop this damned knight into mincemeat!
Fueled by rage, Kane absolutely cannot withstand this attack.
Unfortunately, after learning about his profession, Ye Wei'an had already taken precautions against his violent tendencies.
He had warned Kane long before the barbarians broke out.
The Cavaliers had already created some distance.
This furious, all-out attack only shattered the air and a few blades of grass, futilely carving a deep trench in the ground.
"Ughhhhh—!" The bandit leader was even more furious after his attack missed. He kicked forward and tried to give chase.
But he immediately realized that the ground felt wrong!
Looking down, he saw that the ground beneath his feet had been covered with a layer of slippery, shiny grease.
"The art of greasiness!"
This is the second time Ye Weian has used this magic today.
The enraged barbarian had no time to regain his balance; his massive body instantly lost its equilibrium and crashed heavily onto the oily film with a "bang," splattering a greasy mess. The greatsword also flew out of his hand and clattered to the ground.
"Damn it!" He struggled to get up, but the slippery ground left him with nowhere to put his grip.
"Use spears to suppress him!" Ye Weian gave the order at the right time.
Several guards who reacted the fastest dropped their swords and shields, grabbed the spare spears that were originally next to the carriage, and surrounded the struggling barbarian. They stood outside the range of the grease spell and aimed the spear tips at the barbarian.
"Just disrupt his balance, don't kill him," Ye Wei'an reminded him.
The guards faithfully carried out his orders, and whenever the barbarian tried to stand up, the tips of several spears would thrust at him—not aiming for vital organs, but rather stabbing at his arms, shoulders, or other parts of his body, or simply pushing and smashing him with the shafts of the spears.
"Get out of my way!" The barbarian swung his arm furiously, deflecting one spear, but more spearheads came stabbing at him from other angles.
He had just managed to get up when he was shoved hard in the side by the spear shaft, his center of gravity shifted, and he fell face down back onto the slippery ground.
He got up, was poked down; got up again, fell down again.
The barbarian trapped in the greasy magic is like a beast stuck in the mud, possessing terrifying power but nowhere to use it.
His wounds were bleeding, and every roar and struggle was draining his strength.
The angry roar gradually turned into heavy, painful gasps. The bloodshot in the barbarian's eyes began to fade, and his taut muscles relaxed as if deflated.
The [Rage] state has ended, followed by weakness and excruciating pain.
He gasped for breath, the wound in his lungs piercing with each breath, his vision blurred, and he could no longer get up, collapsing onto the cold, muddy, oily ground stained with his own blood.
Knight Kane stepped forward, confirmed that he was incapacitated, and then nodded to the guards.
"Tie him up, and remember to tie him up tightly."
The guards rushed forward and captured the barbarian with the ropes they had prepared.
Although he didn't kill anyone, Ye Wei'an still gained experience points.
[Defeat the Lv.3 Barbarian and gain 400 experience points.]
The battle is over.
The attacking bandit gang was either killed or fled, and even their leader was captured; it could be said that the entire gang was wiped out.
The guards who had been chasing the bandits in the distance also returned one after another.
Most of them carried their spoils of war, and two of the guards were also escorting a bandit henchman.
"Young Master Ye Wei'an," one of them said excitedly, "as per your orders, we've captured him alive!"
Upon seeing the demon who had burned more than ten of their companions to death, the prisoners immediately lowered their heads.
Ye Wei'an glanced at the ashen-faced prisoner and nodded: "You did a good job."
Upon receiving his praise, the soldier's face lit up with excitement, and his chest unconsciously straightened a little.
According to the original owner's memories, the guards did not have this attitude when they came to pick him up.
Back then, although they were still respectful to him, they were perfunctory in everything they did. They even dawdled over helping him move his luggage, which was completely different from the heartfelt respect they showed him now.
In this dog-eat-dog world, only strength can conquer others.
