Chapter 37

We're professors at the school, you know!

After everything had settled down, a loud series of footsteps suddenly echoed down the corridor.

A moment later, Professor McGonagall rushed anxiously into the bathroom, followed closely by Snape, with Quirrell lagging behind.

It must have been because the commotion they made was too loud that the professors searching for the troll heard the violent collision and the troll's screams.

Quirinus Quirrell let out a weak sob after just one glance at the giant lying on the floor, sitting on a toilet and clutching his chest.

This scene made Belvina Black frown. Quirrell's frail act was no match for a good old woman—wait, something seems off…

Professor McGonagall looked at Ron and Harry, who had survived the ordeal, her lips pale and her voice filled with cold anger.

If Hermione Granger hadn't stepped in and taken all the blame upon herself, Ron and Harry would have escaped another ordeal and wouldn't have had to face the enraged Headmaster Catman again.

The usually sharp-tongued Severus Snape didn't utter a word of venom. He first gave Harry a quick glare, then cast a disdainful look at Belvina, and finally bent down to examine the troll.

Goodness, there's not even enough for Snape to keep himself busy.

The three elective course professors, led by Belvina, said nothing. From the moment Professor McGonagall entered the restroom, the three of them tactfully retreated, as if they had never been in the restroom at all.

Fortunately, Professor McGonagall wasn't some pink toad from the Ministry of Magic, and the older catgirl turned to Belvina and her two companions.

She said, "Luckily you arrived in time, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable."

As she spoke, Professor McGonagall glanced at Harry and Ron again. Although Hermione had taken the blame and taken all the blame, Professor McGonagall was certain that the three new students were not telling the truth.

In Professor McGonagall's eyes, Hermione was a hardworking and well-behaved girl, the least likely person to break school rules. How could she possibly come alone to challenge a troll?

As for Harry and Ron running over to help Hermione, Professor McGonagall believed it; Harry and Ron were just two mischievous boys who would cause trouble sooner or later.

Faced with Professor McGonagall's stern gaze, Hermione lowered her head, Harry couldn't utter a word, and Ron's eyes darted around, looking extremely guilty.

"Professor McGonagall, if there's nothing else, we'll be leaving now," Belvina said. She respected capable people, and Professor McGonagall's expertise in transfiguration deserved everyone's respect.

In addition, Minerva McGonagall is also commendable in her conduct and actions. Despite the dean's inhuman behavior over the years, Professor McGonagall has never retaliated in the same despicable manner.

"Thanks to you all so much tonight, Professor Black," said Professor McGonagall. "And of course, Bassheda and Paul too."

"You're too kind, Professor McGonagall," Paul Bernard said. "Professors protecting students' safety is simply our job."

"Yes, yes, Paul is right." Bassheda Bablin nodded like a chick pecking at rice. "Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley were very brave, as expected of Gryffindor."

When faced with a colossal monster, Harry and Ron, as first-year students, were neither scared out of their wits nor did they turn and run away. Their actions truly deserve to be called brave, the bravery of teenagers.

Belvina hesitated for three seconds before saying, "If it weren't for Mr. Weasley's courage in protecting Miss Granger, and if it weren't for Mr. Potter's courage in drawing the troll's attention, I don't think we would have had a chance to save them."

The implication is that Harry and Ron actually saved themselves, while Belvina and the other two were simply doing what they were supposed to do.

Paul stared blankly at Belvina and Bassheda, who had joined the praise group, and the alchemy professor was speechless. "You two making me look stupid is ridiculous!"

Snape, who was examining the troll's injuries, looked over unexpectedly and gave Belvina a deep look, wondering what kind of tricks the Potions professor was up to now.

With the main characters now on stage, the supporting characters should step aside. Belvina, Bassheda, and Paul bid farewell and left.

The three elective course professors walked silently to the fifth floor of the castle. Finally, the nauseating stench emanating from the trolls was gone, and their robes, cleansed by the magic spell, were no longer tainted with the strange smell.

The three elective course professors entered Belvina's lounge one after another, and the three of them, who had not spoken a word the whole way, clearly had a secret to tell each other.

Belvina, who was the first to enter the lounge, raised her wand and pointed it at the fireplace. Warm flames rose up, dispelling the chill from their bodies.

Paul picked up the teapot from the table and placed it on the shelf in the fireplace.

Meanwhile, Bassheda—well, Bassheda was looking for desserts and snacks. She knew the Belvina lounge better than her own room and quickly unearthed the package Kreacher had sent.

Ancient Rune Sweetheart also found a bottle of perfume and sprayed it all over herself and the other two.

Perhaps it was her overly sensitive sense of smell, or perhaps it was just her imagination, but Bassheda could still detect a faint, unpleasant stench.

"Did you see that just now?" Belvina stood in front of the fireplace, stretching out her hands to warm them.

"What do you see? Is it Professor Snape or Professor Quirrell?" Bassheda eagerly tore open the package, her cherry-like mouth agape. "Mmm! Kreacher's cooking is getting better and better."

Belvina smiled helplessly. Having Bassheda as a friend was both her misfortune and the greatest fortune of her life.

After a few seconds of hesitation, Belvina decided to make a not-so-funny joke. She said with feigned hesitation, "Perhaps that's why I didn't cut off Kreacher's head and stick it on the plaque."

"Ahem!"

Paul, who was drinking tea to ward off the cold, almost choked to death by that sentence. What the hell? Is Belvina just too cruel, or is the Black family all like this?

Alchemy professor Paul Bernard is a half-blood wizard who spent most of his time at Hogwarts after graduation, so he has very limited knowledge of the pure-blood wizarding family Black.

"Calm down, calm down, don't make a fuss," Bassheda said. "It's a crazy tradition of the Black family. Kreacher would love for Belvina to cut off his head so he could serve the great Black family with his life, just like his mother."

Paul didn't understand, but he was deeply moved.

"I won't let him have his way just for the fact that he draws the curtains every day," Belvina said. "Kreacher can forget about sticking his head to a panel and hanging it in Grimmauld Place for the rest of his life."

Paul still couldn't understand, but he said he respected the Blake family's strange traditions.

"More than that, Kreacher should be worried about whether you'll give him a 'clothes'," Bassheda said. "I really want a house-elf too! A house-elf that can send me food, hehe!"

At this time, Hogwarts did not yet have the House-Elf Liberation Front, and Belvina and Bassheda did not think that having house-elves in the house was a mistake.

Despite Belvina's intense dislike for Kreacher, she never mistreated the Black family's house-elves, nor did she ever threaten them with "clothes."

"Seriously, Snape's leg is injured," Bassheda said. "I saw him bending over to examine the troll. Also, Snape didn't leave with the Slytherin students in the Great Hall; I don't know where he went."

"I saw it too. He was limping a little when he went into the restroom," Paul said. "It didn't look too serious, but I'm not sure if he was just putting on a brave face."

Snape's behavior tonight was indeed a bit strange, but the three of them did not focus their suspicions on the Potions Professor; they were simply curious about his whereabouts and the reason for his injury.

"Perhaps Dumbledore has other plans; after all, he's the headmaster's confidant." Belvina's tone unconsciously carried a hint of sarcasm. "When Snape was on trial, Dumbledore himself testified in court for Snape."

Bassheda pinched her nose dramatically and said in a strange voice, "I smell jealousy, dear. You're jealous of Professor Snape's favored status."

Paul didn't say anything. He felt that he wasn't close enough to Belvina to joke about such things.

Furthermore, Paul really couldn't understand what grudge or animosity existed between Snape and Belvina.

"Jealousy? Me? Belvina Black? Jealous of Snape?"

To express her strong dissatisfaction, Belvina pounced on Bassheda like a hungry tiger, and the two rolled around on the sofa.

The only pity was that it was already late autumn, and there was no spring sunshine in the room.

"Ahem." Paul coughed, indicating that he was still there and to be careful. He continued, "Did you two see Professor Quirrell's performance just now?"

Bassheda, who was pinned down, said breathlessly, "Of course I saw it. He put on such a dramatic performance, as if he was afraid we wouldn't see how scared he was of the troll. A first-year student dared to fight a troll. The Defense Against the Dark Arts professor was first scared unconscious, and then he cried. I was so embarrassed for him."

With that, Bassheda twisted her wrist and immediately turned the slave into the master.

"Wrong or wrong?" Bassheda asked. "If you say you're wrong, I'll spare your life tonight!"

"I was wrong, I was wrong." Belvina readily admitted defeat. As the saying goes, discretion is the better part of valor. "Professor Bablin, please be magnanimous and let me off the hook!"

"That's more like it," Bassheda said smugly, as she loosened her grip so that Belvina could sit up.

However, the unruly Belvina suddenly launched a sneak attack, taking advantage of Bassheda's unpreparedness and regaining the upper hand.

"Was I wrong? What did I do wrong?" Belvina asked arrogantly, as if she wasn't the one who had just decisively admitted defeat.

Watching the two young witches frolicking around, Paul Bernard felt extremely uneasy. He couldn't stand or sit still, his eyes fixed on the carpet, not daring to look up or wander off.

"I said, can you two show me a little respect?" Paul felt his dignity as a man had been insulted; after all, he was a hot-blooded young man.

Belvina and Bassheda finally stopped fighting and sat down on the sofa.

After gathering her scattered thoughts, Belvina smoothed her hair and said fiercely, "If Quirrell isn't the mastermind, I'll definitely teach him a lesson. He's caused me immense mental anguish."

"What if Professor Quirrell is the mastermind? Is he eyeing the 'treasure' in the right corridor on the fourth floor?" Bassheda said, tidying her messy blonde hair.

"Isn't there still Dumbledore? Let the old man handle it himself. It's his fault for misjudging people!"

Belvina and Bassheda combed their hair, remaining silent for a moment.

Paul Bernard stroked his chin and slowly began to speak, saying, "I don't care who Professor Quirrell is; I just want to know what Professor Dumbledore is hiding in the school."

"Where are you two?"

"Why don't we just ask Dumbledore?" Belvina said nonchalantly. "We're professors at the university, you know!"
