Chapter 9
System Shop Upgrade
After playing around with Peter for a while, they returned home.
Having already realized how convenient spider silk was during their chase, Peter, determined to improve, packed the necessary materials and enthusiastically went into the basement. He was ready to personally build his own spider silk projectile.
Riley, meanwhile, lay on the bed, staring at the system screen in front of him with a thoughtful expression.
Although the events experienced by each version of Spider-Man are somewhat different.
However, regardless of the version of Spider-Man, the reason that led to Ben Parker's death was remarkably consistent.
That is, Peter, out of a moment of spite, chose to stand idly by while a crime was unfolding before his eyes, thus indirectly causing Ben Parker's death.
But things are different now.
With Riley as a role model by his side, Peter had long realized, through subtle influence, that the saying "with great power comes great responsibility" was not just a casual remark.
Therefore, Peter would never let any crime that occurred in his presence go unpunished.
This effectively eliminated the possibility of Ben Parker's death at its source.
This is not surprising, since Peter did nothing but choose to become Spider-Man. Why would the system suddenly determine that the rookie mission, which had been on Riley's mission list for over ten years, was completed without a word?
Of course, after obtaining the item that could boost any attribute by one point, Riley did try to increase his "luck value".
Unfortunately, the system quickly popped up a notification stating that this item card could only be used to improve one of the three attributes that were visible on the panel: Strength, Agility, and Intelligence, thus eliminating the possibility of a bug with the Lyrica.
Left with no other choice, Riley could only choose to improve his intelligence in order to maximize his own interests.
The moment his intelligence improved, Riley felt as if he had opened the door to a new world, and his mind became much more agile.
Grab a book at random, skim through it, and you can remember most of its contents.
Previously, complex equations that required Peter's guidance and reminders to understand could now be solved with just a glance, much like one plus one equals two, the corresponding solution would naturally appear in Riley's mind.
This made Riley sigh, no wonder the intelligence attribute requires a huge amount of 100,000 points to increase by even one point.
Indeed, you get what you pay for; there's a reason why it's expensive...
Well, it's a pity that this item card can only boost a specific attribute and cannot be exchanged for corresponding points.
Alternatively, you could convert all 100,000 points spent on improving intelligence into agility, which would be 1,000 agility points, resulting in a qualitative leap in speed to 2,000 kilometers per hour!
Even if he's nowhere near as fast as The Flash, he's still enough to make Riley instantly transform into a supersonic speedster!
In addition, Riley now possesses a strength of over 100 tons.
If you push the speed to the limit and land a punch on your opponent's face...
The scene was so beautiful it was unimaginable!
So much so that Riley, who had just been feeling smug about getting a free bit of intelligence, suddenly realized after his intelligence improved that the increase was far less appealing than real points.
Incidentally, after completing the beginner missions, Riley's system also unlocked further permissions for him.
In addition to the original function of using points to directly redeem corresponding attributes, a shop and lottery function have been added.
Of course, Riley, who was acutely aware of his own bad luck, ignored the ornate and tempting lottery interface.
Instead, he obediently opened the store interface and began to see what new and interesting things were available.
Low-level health potion: Restores 10% of the user's health, priced at 20 points.
Intermediate Life Potion: Restores 30% of the user's health. Price: 60 points.
Advanced Life Potion: Restores 50% of the user's health and provides a purification effect. Price: 100000 points.
Basic Stamina Potion: Grants the user unlimited stamina for 30 seconds. Upon the end of the effect, the user will fall into an eight-hour coma. Price: 50 points.
Intermediate Stamina Potion: Grants the user unlimited stamina for three minutes. Upon the end of the effect, the user will fall into a coma for 24 hours. Price: 300 points.
Advanced Stamina Potion: Grants the user unlimited stamina, temporarily doubles strength and agility, and grants immunity to all damage for one hour. The user will die immediately upon the effect's end. Price: 100000 points.
Random Skill Book: After use, you can randomly obtain one skill. Price: 5000 points.
A smartphone with all permissions unlocked, features unknown, priced at 1000000 points.
A smartwatch with all permissions unlocked, functions unknown, priced at 10000000 points.
There aren't many varieties, but they're still fairly practical.
Moreover, if Riley wasn't mistaken, the "purification" effect of the advanced life potion was the same as the purification effect in his previous life's game, which could eliminate all negative effects.
So, the high-level stamina potion, which seems to be usable only once in a lifetime, might, when combined with the purification of the high-level life potion, eliminate the side effects of death and grant a terrifying boost of immunity to any damage for an hour?
But this price...
Good heavens, using them together will cost 200,000 points. This is far beyond Riley's reach, as he currently only has double-digit points and is feeling quite strapped for cash!
However, compared to common potion-type items and random skill books whose returns are obviously unstable...
Riley was more concerned about the last two items.
Dude, are your phone and watch made of gold?
Selling a phone for a million and a watch for ten million—it's blatant robbery! They're treating me like a sucker, trying to rip me off!
With these points, Riley could raise his intelligence value to double digits even if he chose the most expensive intelligence skill, surpassing Iron Man Tony Stark and becoming a unique genius in the current universe!
By then, Riley believed that he could easily make any kind of watch or phone he wanted!
So, what's wrong with this system?
Why do people think that a mobile phone or a watch is more practical than a significantly improved intelligence attribute that could cause a dimensional collapse?
"What a joke! You really think points are easy to earn? Even if I, Riley, die in this Marvel universe, get snapped to dust by Thanos, I will never be the fool to spend a ton of points to exchange for these two meaningless items!"
Thinking this, Riley angrily closed the shop, convinced that there must be a system problem causing the prices to be seriously messed up. Or maybe they just didn't bother with the pretense and threw up some random junk to deliberately cheat him, a poor "working person," out of his points!
But to their utter surprise, within the system's built-in shop space...
The cell phones and watches that Riley looked down on were quietly floating at the very top of the merchandise.
Inside the object, which is labeled "cell phone" but actually looks more like a crystal doll, nestled within a constantly rotating stream of binary data, lies a beautiful and adorable girl dressed in a red leather jacket...
The item labeled "watch" displayed a series of strange, shadowy silhouettes—clearly not native to Earth—on a bright green screen that kept switching back and forth.
