Chapter 5
The Exam Begins
"Candidates Wei Xin and Xu Mu, please prepare." The proctor put the whistle in his mouth.
"The exam begins!"
"Go, Red-faced Dragon."
"Believe in your abilities, Mimikyu."
As soon as the whistle blew, both players released their Pokémon, and an energy shield rose up on the battlefield to protect the players and referees.
Mimikyu landed on the ground, and a huge Pokémon with a red head and a blue body stood opposite it, its huge feet stomping the ground repeatedly, its wings standing high on its back, emitting a very intimidating roar.
Red-faced Dragon, a cave Pokémon, roams back and forth in narrow caves, using its sharp claws to capture prey.
The skin on his face was harder than rock.
Whether the ability is Rough Skin or Forced, Wei Xin started thinking about Red-faced Dragon's ability. If it's Mold Breaker, Mimikyu's Disguise ability will be ineffective.
Moreover, are the characteristics in reality exactly the same as those in the game?
But so what?
Although Wei Xin could hardly recall any matches involving the Red-faced Dragon due to its low usage rate, he knew its characteristics and move list by heart.
In an instant, six completely different basic tactics appeared in Wei Xin's mind, and on this basis, they continued to expand, forming a huge tree diagram like a net covering the sky, with sweet fruits of victory hanging under each branch.
A slight smile played on his lips as he unconsciously raised his hand to wipe his dry lips.
"Red-faced Dragon, use Flamethrower!" Xu Mu made the first move.
"Roar~~~"
The Red-faced Dragon opened its mouth, and blazing orange flames burned inside before it shot them straight at Mimikyu.
"Mimikurik, use Shadow Strike."
"mound!"
Just before the flames touched Mimikyu's body, Mimikyu's figure vanished, turning into a circular black shadow that then appeared at the feet of Redface Dragon.
From beneath the cloth cover, a black hand suddenly shot out and struck the red-faced dragon heavily in the abdomen. With the blessing of the Life Jade, the punch sent the red-faced dragon staggering back two steps.
Due to the side effects of the Life Jewel, Mimikyu staggered and froze in place.
The black fist nearly dissipated due to the reflected damage, but it did not trigger the "Painted Skin" effect.
Wei Xin smiled slightly, realizing that the Red-faced Dragon's characteristic was rough skin, which would cause a certain amount of counter-damage to the opponent when subjected to physical attacks.
"Don't let him get away, Crimson-Faced Dragon, use Ambush on vital points!"
"Roar~~" The red-faced dragon roared, raised its claws, and with light blue light wrapped around its arms, slammed them heavily into the Mimikyu in front of it.
"Mimikurik, use Sword Dance."
"mound."
Mimikyu did not dodge the Red-faced Dragon's attack, but instead withstood it head-on. A tear appeared in its cloth cover, and its body flew into the sky.
"The Mimikyu's small frame can't withstand a Red-faced Dragon's sneak attack on a vital spot. The outcome is already decided."
"That's hard to say," Wei Xin said with a slight smile.
"Mimimitaki, now's the time! Use Shadow Claw!"
"What?"
Xu Mu looked up and saw that Mimikyu's body was covered with a red light that represented an increased attack, and black smoke was rising from its body, covering the suit.
Wei Xin finally understood what the real-life "painted skin" meant.
The Mimikyu's suit was instantly restored to its original state, and a pair of large purple hands emerged from beneath its feet, descending from the sky.
With his back to the blazing sun, his burning rage transformed into a shadow that blotted out the sky, falling upon the red-faced dragon's head.
"Red-faced Dragon, use Crunch!"
"Roar~" The red-faced dragon raised its head, bared its red fangs at Mimikyu, and what happened next left Xu Mu speechless.
Mimikyu's shadow claws covered the red-faced dragon's head, pressed down on its large mouth, and forcibly merged it with the dragon's head.
The laws of victory have already been determined.
"Mimimitaki, one more time, Shadow Claw!"
Wei Xin stretched out his hand, rotated his wrist, and squeezed his five fingers together tightly, grasping the fruits of victory firmly.
"Qiu!" Mimi Qiu called out.
When it reached out again and grasped the sky, what fell was a pitch-black meteor carrying a ferocious malice.
Falling from the sky, humiliation, resentment, and determination shone like stars in its eyes, converging between its claws.
You trust me so much, how could I possibly betray your trust?
Mimikyu's claws struck the Red-faced Dragon's head.
So, for the sake of my trainer, please fall.
"Red-faced Dragon, hold on!"
Lacking combat experience, the sudden turn of events left Xu Mu's mind blank, and he couldn't think of what skill to use.
Red-faced Dragon held its head high, its head pressing against Mimikyu's fist, but its thighs buckled violently due to Mimikyu's astonishing strength, and at that moment, the scales of victory that belonged to it crashed down.
"Mimimitaki, use Play Rumble!"
"mound!"
Releasing the Shadow Claw, Mimikyu's figure vanished in mid-air, and before anyone could react, it reappeared at the feet of the Crimson Dragon.
Then countless afterimages appeared around the red-faced dragon, enveloping it like a net, so tight that it was suffocating.
Instantly, dust billowed up across the field.
"Red-faced Dragon, use your dragon claws."
The severely injured Red-faced Dragon struggled to its feet, its two short claws waving wildly, but it could only chase after the afterimage of Mimikyu.
Fairy-type attacks rained down on the Red-faced Dragon like a storm, with remarkable effect.
The red-faced dragon let out a painful howl.
"Red-faced Dragon, use Flamethrower!" Xu Mu gritted his teeth and tried to fight to the death.
The red-faced dragon did not respond.
After taking a direct hit from a sneak attack, two enhanced Shadow Claws, and a set of restrained playful attacks, even the tough-skinned Red-faced Dragon finally reached its limit.
When the smoke and dust cleared, only Mimikyu's unassuming body remained, standing proudly atop the Crimson-faced Dragon.
"How is that possible?"
Xu Mu couldn't believe his eyes. He couldn't understand how the massive, ferocious Red-Faced Dragon could lose to the unassuming Mimikyu.
With the outcome decided, the proctor blew the whistle and announced the final result.
"The Red-faced Dragon is unable to fight, and the victor is Mystic Hill."
"mound!"
Mimiqiu couldn't believe she had actually won. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she leaped into Wei Xin's arms.
"See what I told you? With your abilities, as long as you believe in yourself, you can do anything," Wei Xin said with a look of satisfaction.
Wei Xin breathed a sigh of relief. This was his first time truly commanding a Pokémon battle, and he was worried that if he made a mistake and Mimikyu lost the battle, it would be a huge blow to its morale.
Fortunately, it was a close call.
"Exam over. Both candidates, please put your Pokémon back in and place the Poké Balls into the testing machine."
"OK."
[Complete a Pokémon battle and receive 16000 Action Points as a reward]
[Complete an exam and receive a reward of 6400 Action Points]
Wei Xin had just handed the Poké Ball to the teacher when he heard the system's voice, which surprised him.
A single Pokémon battle gives you 16,000 action points? And the rewards are calculated simultaneously with the exam. If you do a lot of battles... wouldn't you be able to rack up all the rewards?
But is this good for Pokémon? He couldn't help but think that Pokémon are also made of flesh and blood, and they are also creatures that feel pain, fatigue, and fear.
As the saying goes, a person's eyes are black and their heart is red; if a person's eyes turn red, their heart turns black.
Wei Xin touched his conscience.
Well, let nature take its course. After a brief hesitation, Wei Xin gave up the idea of using Pokémon battles to farm rewards, at least he wouldn't actively try to farm rewards.
Although the rewards offered by the system are very tempting, as a trainer, you should respect your partner's opinion.
The martial arts world is not just about fighting and killing; it also involves human relationships and social interactions.
He certainly didn't want to get stuck on a street lamp by his own Pokémon.
Wei Xin focused his attention on the testing machine. Throughout the entire match, Reddra did not manage to launch a single effective attack on Mimikyu. The only damage came from the recoil caused by its ability and the consumption of Life Orbs, so Mimikyu's stamina was relatively good.
The outcome of a battle is only one factor in determining the grade. The final exam score depends on the Pokémon's remaining stamina and the teacher's comprehensive evaluation of the student's tactics and knowledge.
With that, Wei Xin's two exams are over. More than 6,000 people registered for this exam, so the competition will last for three whole days. The specific results are expected to be released by the weekend.
Wei Xin calculated that the combat department only recruits 640 students, so the actual admission rate is only one in ten.
If he gets 99 points on the written test, he's afraid that if he gets even one more point, the teacher will be worried that he'll become arrogant.
Even if you win the martial arts test, your score won't be low.
Reaching the admission cutoff score should be a sure thing, as for the top ten...
There are always people more capable than you, and there's always something beyond your understanding. And who knows, there might even be powerful figures with substantial capital behind you.
As Wei Xin handed the Poké Ball to the teacher and was about to leave the examination room, Mimikyu's Poké Ball opened automatically.
"mound."
Mimikyu approached Wei Xin's feet, extended a small black paw, and gently hooked it around his ankle, looking pitiful.
Are you leaving? Can I come with you?
Maxima often has it, but Bole does not often have it.
Although they were just casual acquaintances, Mimiqiu was still very reluctant to part with Weixin.
"I'm sorry, Mimikyu, I can't take you with me," Wei Xin said regretfully. The Pokémon used in the exam were provided by the school, and according to regulations, students were not allowed to take them with them.
"Chirp~" Mimic Chirp lowered its head in disappointment.
Seeing this, Wei Xin squatted down in front of Mimikyu and gently patted its head.
"It's already a great coincidence that we were able to fight side by side once, let alone someone as capable as you. I can't teach you anything else anymore. Now it's your turn to teach others."
"Mound?" Mimikyu raised its head and tilted its head in confusion.
"Yes, you'll encounter other students next. They're all beginners, lack practical experience, and are prone to making mistakes. That's when you, as their senior, will need to guide them. Do you understand what I mean?"
"Mimi nods, its black claws clenching slightly."
"What a smart kid." Wei Xin patted Mimikyu's head and handed him back to the teacher.
As Wei Xin left the examination room, it was almost noon, and he patted his stomach.
Glug...
My stomach started growling uncontrollably...
"Let's go to the cafeteria and get some fries."
