Chapter 65
Sinnoh Champion
Just as Wei Xin wasted his precious time because of the 8 a.m. call from Wang Ri, he was lying on the classroom desk with his phone under the desk, secretly studying the Pokémon Breeder's Guide.
On the other side of the ocean, in a private villa in the Sinnoh region.
A Garchomp and Lucario stand in the battle arena of the villa, facing Gardevoir and Gothia.
Cynthia, the Sinnoh champion, stood in the courtyard of the villa, wearing a pure white knitted sweater and dark blue jeans.
The sparks from the clash of Pokémon moves reflected in her gray eyes. Leaning against the tiles of the villa, she rested her left hand on her right elbow, held a Garchomp phone case in her right hand, tilted her head, and listened to the old man's rambling on the phone.
A gentle breeze blew by, and the shadows of the trees swayed slightly on her cascading golden hair, extending all the way to her feet, to the irregular round holes she had dug out out of boredom under her dragon-headed, mole-paw-shaped slippers.
Finally, after the old man on the phone finished speaking, Cynthia said, "Grandma, I've said it many times, I'm going to Donghuang to study mythology and legends, not to go on vacation."
"Being a teacher is just a side job. Also, I'm not planning on getting married right now, so please don't introduce me to anyone. Childhood sweetheart? Someone I beat up when we were kids can be considered a childhood sweetheart? In the Sinnoh region, I have as many childhood sweethearts as little Rattatas on the street."
"I'm only twenty-five, and it's not like your granddaughter is unwanted!"
"I also need to spend time researching historical sites and myths, so I don't have time to take care of the children."
"I also want someone to take over the Sinnoh champion position, but there is no one in the entire Sinnoh who can defeat me. I can't just find anyone to give up my position."
Regional champions represent the top level of trainers in a region and are sometimes responsible for resolving dangerous incidents that occur in the region. This is not a role that can be filled by just anyone you pull off the street.
Those who are not strong enough will be dragged out and embarrass Sinnoh, making other regions think that Sinnoh is weak, and then all sorts of monsters and demons will come out to cause trouble.
"Daigo and Michael? They're different. Anyway, they're rotating champions, so it doesn't matter who wins. Besides, Daigo is currently in the Eastern Empire, while Michael is still with his pillar."
Cynthia was also envious of the two of them. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, Daigo would dig for rocks and Michael would be the champion. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, Michael would go dancing and Daigo would be the champion. On Sundays, the two of them would go out to catch fish together.
Although her grandmother kept urging her to put aside her status as the Sinnoh champion and focus on mythology research, and she herself was also very passionate about mythology research, but...
"Roar!" Just as Cynthia was on the phone with her grandmother, Garchomp raised its claws and used Brick Break to tear Gardevoir's Reflect barrier apart. At the same time, it opened its mouth and used Crush to bite Gardevoir.
Seeing this, Gothic quickly used her psychic powers to pull Gardevoir towards herself, dodging Garchomp's attack. To do so, she even gritted her teeth and endured Lucario's entire set of Bone Club attacks.
Meanwhile, Gardevoir stared at Garchomp, which was crouching on the ground in its Ultimate Attack stance, its eyes glowing with a deep blue light.
Seeing this, Cynthia gradually pulled her phone away.
"Hey hey hey, my signal's not very good. It seems like Team Galactic is causing trouble outside. I'm going to take Garchomp to fight them. Take care of yourself, old man."
After saying that, ignoring the old man's grumbling on the phone, Cynthia hung up and commanded, "Garuda, use Dig! Lucario, grab Gothia!"
Upon hearing its trainer's command, Garchomp immediately changed its strategy, leaping into the air and using its claws to create a circular hole in the ground before disappearing into it.
Lucario held Gothic Lady around the waist, using her powerful psychic abilities to lock her in place.
Just as Garchomp burrowed underground, a powerful force erupted on the surface, distorting the surrounding space—Gardevoir's Foresight ability.
"Lucario, throw Gothic to Gardevoir, then use Close Combat."
"Lucario!" Lucario used all its strength to spin around and slam Gothic into Gardevoir.
Sensing their teammate hurtling towards them, Gothic and Gardevoir simultaneously used telekinesis to control their teammate's body, stopping them from colliding.
In order to defend against Garchomp's Dig, they manipulated each other's bodies, floated in the air, and used Protect to block Lucario's barrage of punches.
"Lucario, use Stand!"
Based on their years of cooperation, Lucario knew the trainer's purpose, so it stopped close combat, reached out and grabbed Gardevoir and Gothic's hands, preventing them from leaving.
"Garuda, use Giga Impact to burst out of the ground!"
At Cynthia's command, the ground rose up, and Garchomp, carrying countless pebbles, shot into the sky. Lucario instantly activated his Stand, and in a flash, landed on the ground.
Faced with Garchomp shattering its Stand, Gothic's Gardevoir stretched out its hands, attempting to dodge Garchomp's attack with psychic powers. However, the large and painful shards hitting it prevented them from using any moves. They could only close their eyes in fear and await defeat.
"That's enough, Garchomp!"
At Cynthia's command, Garchomp swung its tail, turned sideways, and used its move to bypass Gardevoir and Gothic, flying into the sky until the energy of its Giga Impact was exhausted, its body stiffened, and it crashed to the ground.
Brother, don't be afraid, I'm here to save you!
Seeing that Garchomp was about to fall, Lucario raised its chin, stretched out its hands, and ran on the ground, trying to catch Garchomp.
But then they saw the falling Garchomp, due to its body weight, use the technique of being thrown off the Earth, like a meteor.
Guess what? I'm actually an only child.
Fearing being crushed to death by Garchomp, Lucario turned and fled.
Seeing Lucario turn and run dozens of meters away, Garchomp in the sky was so angry that it felt like it could perform Dragon Dance.
Lucario, you're such a jerk for abandoning your teammates! Just wait until I get down here, you're definitely going to get what's coming to you.
In the end, Gardevoir and Gothic used their psychic powers to keep Garchomp suspended in mid-air and gently place it on the ground.
Garchomp landed, looked around, and saw Lucario clinging to the corner of the wall. The dog cautiously poked its head out, opened its mouth, roared, and charged at it with its paws outstretched.
Seeing Lucario protecting its rear end and being chased all over the yard by Garchomp, Gothic and Gardevoir exchanged a glance and covered their mouths to chuckle, while Cynthia's face showed a hint of a smile.
Sure enough, she didn't want to give up either Pokémon battles or mythological research.
It would be great if I could find an assistant to help me share the burden.
Let's see what my best friend is up to.
Thinking this, Cynthia pushed open the door to the room, and as soon as she stepped inside, a naked figure snuggled into her arms.
"Nana, help! Cattleya is bullying me again!"
What happened?
Facing Karuno, who was completely naked in the room as if she had suffered a great injustice, Rin tilted her head, pouted, and three question marks appeared above her head.
What were you doing in the room while I was making a phone call?
Looking up, Cynthia saw Gadria in front of the TV, holding a game controller, proudly raising her chin, patting the thick stack of clothes beside her, showing off her spoils. Cynthia suddenly realized what was going on and smiled helplessly.
"You and Cattleya played a game together, and you even used clothes as stakes?" Cynthia asked.
Playing games and placing bets with someone who can read minds? How could anyone be so stupid?
Thankfully, the room was full of girls; if it had been a man, you would have lost more than just your clothes.
Karuni nodded, looking aggrieved. "I thought I could at least beat her once, but who would have thought... Waaah, I even lost with my makeup. Superpowers are just too unfair."
