Chapter 8

: Pokémon Rampage and the Adorable Eevee

The incubation base is not a place to incubate Pokémon, but rather a business park established by the school near the university in accordance with national policies and needs to support teachers and students in conducting research and starting businesses.

As Wei Xin stepped out of the taxi, he could see a huge artificial mountain forest from a distance, completely surrounded by a towering wall.

A pin-shaped launcher stands on the wall, and at the top of the research institute at the highest point of the mountain, several different types of Flying-type Pokémon—Fletchling, Pidgeotto, Pidgey, Taillow, and Stark—take off and land.

Wei Xin walked for about ten minutes at the foot of the mountain before finally finding the main entrance to the incubation center.

dong dong.

He walked to the door and gently knocked on the glass window of the security room.

"Hmm? Good morning, boss!"

The security guard, who was dozing off, suddenly stood up from his chair, raised his hand in salute to Wei Xin, and then looked closely.

Who are you?

Do you know how difficult it is for someone my age to get a good night's sleep?

"Hello security guard, I've come to pick up my Pokémon after receiving a message." Wei Xin showed the security guard his student ID and the text message on his phone.

"Student, you're here so early?" The security guard squinted, took Wei Xin's student ID, and touched his neck. "Number one in the whole school, awesome."

Sigh, I'm low-key, I'm a rather reserved person.

"Wait a minute, let me check first."

The security guard sat at the computer desk, and after a series of ping-pong operations, his previously squinted eyes widened instantly.

"You're that...that...that..."

You're the one who's like that; how dare you assume my race?

"Hey, Guangkuo-ge, right? I've seen your videos, Pikachu using Swords Dance! I'm... a fan of yours." The security guard said, barely suppressing a laugh.

What are you doing, ouch!

And that's Mimikyuu, please get out, you fake security guard.

"Brother, can we not talk about that anymore?"

Wei Xin clenched his toes, his eyelids twitching slightly.

The thought that I'm now not only famous among students, but also that security guards, teachers, cafeteria staff, and school cleaners are all fanning the flames is making me feel incredibly proud.

He wished he could use his digging skills.

I regretted it.

Why do you think humans have mouths? I wish I were mute.

Maybe I should just hang myself at the school gate tomorrow.

What do you mean by my roommate planning to put the video's QR code on my tombstone?

There was a mole within the organization, which led to the termination of the death.

"Come in." The security guard pressed a button, and the four-meter-high metal gate slowly opened. At the same time, he took out a red and white ball and released a canine Pokémon.

Its body is predominantly orange-yellow with black stripes, and its muzzle, belly, head, and tail are covered in creamy-yellow down.

Growlithe, a loyal canine Pokémon, possesses considerable strength and is relatively inexpensive to train, making it a standard asset for the Eastern League, security guards, and police officers.

"Aww!"

As soon as the Growlithe landed on the ground, it twitched its nose, turned its head to look at Wei Xin, and then excitedly stuck out its tongue, wagged its tail, and came close to his feet. It lay down on the ground, revealing its creamy yellow, furry belly.

Alas, my irresistible charm.

Wei Xin squatted down and rubbed the Growlithe's belly.

It's fluffy and feels soft to the touch.

"It seems it likes you quite a bit. The cable car broke down yesterday, so let Growlithe take you up the mountain."

"Aww!"

Upon hearing this, the Growlithe barked happily, stood up, raised one front paw, and saluted Wei Xin.

Incubation Base, General McAtty is at your service.

Stepping into the hatchery, Growlithe was in front, and Wei Xin was behind. The midday sun shone through the branches of the trees on both sides of the concrete ground, and occasionally the voices of unknown Pokémon would cross the forest and sweep across the gray concrete ground under Wei Xin's feet.

It's so quiet, and there aren't any Pokémon on the road.

The thought of getting his first partner soon made Wei Xin excited, and he clenched his fist slightly in his pocket.

However, this means escaping the life of being all alone.

Wei Xin felt the burden on his shoulders had become heavier.

With one more person, there's one more meal, and the expenses become a big problem.

We really need to work harder.

Moreover, this was his first time raising a child, so he had little experience.

After a moment's thought, Wei Xin decided to throw Chinese-style education into the trash can first.

How about finding a part-time job first? Or maybe find some undiscovered intelligence and make money by exploiting information asymmetry?

Becoming a researcher? Research is time-consuming and laborious, and it's difficult for personal research results to attract attention. Publishing papers requires out-of-pocket funding, and even if you eventually achieve results, you might still be shot in the back.

How about getting into the entertainment industry? Becoming a livestreamer? Or maybe becoming a plagiarist? If all else fails, perhaps translating legal texts...

Let's just forget about it. The child is still young and doesn't want to die.

"Waaaaahh ...

Just as Wei Xin reached the halfway point of the mountain, envisioning his future life, a piercing and terrifying high-pitched roar came from the research institute at the summit.

The Growlithe immediately darted to Wei Xin's feet, lowered its body, and growled softly at the road ahead.

"What's going on? Are the Rockets handing out experience points?"

Wei Xin slowly raised his head and saw a dark mass of Flying-type Pokémon emerging from the forest, flapping their wings in panic towards the sky, but being blocked by an energy barrier that was rapidly rising in the distance, unable to escape.

My goodness, what a classic plot.

Next, shouldn't it be my turn to bump into the villain who has just finished committing a bad deed and is escaping with a rare Pokémon? Then, without saying a word, I'll slide in and stylishly save my starter Pokémon, lead him to the villain for a counterattack, and finally defeat the villain in a spectacular fashion?

Do bad things, and I'll make you fly.

Shh, shh~~

Suddenly, Wei Xin and Kati heard a rustling sound in the grass. Looking in the direction of the sound, they saw a white figure disappear into the bushes not far from them.

who are you?

Unsure whether the other party was friend or foe, Wei Xin cautiously watched the swaying bushes and slowly retreated with his Growlithe.

As the grass swayed, the Pokémon hidden in it drew closer and closer to them.

A moment later, a creature entirely white emerged. Because it was moving too fast, Wei Xin couldn't see its true form clearly.

"Growlithe, use Quick Attack!" Wei Xin commanded, waving his hand.

"Aww!"

With its center of gravity slightly lowered and limbs bent, Growlithe unleashed tremendous power, charging towards the attacker with all its might.

At the moment of impact, the white creature suddenly shed its skin, revealing itself to be a white lab coat.

???

The Growlithe, carrying the clothes in its mouth and looking incredulous, landed in the bushes, while the creature hiding there charged straight at Wei Xin.

"Boo~"

With its soft brown fur, fluffy tail covering the creamy down on its chest, its eyes tightly closed in fear, glistening with tears, and its short, thin legs stretched forward as far as it could, its pink paw pads lunging at Wei Xin.

"Ibuki?"

Eevee, an evolving Pokémon, has many possible evolutions due to its unstable genes. However, its surviving numbers are very small.

As a Normal-type Pokémon, Eevee isn't particularly strong in battle, but its fox-like and canine-like personality and appearance make it a favorite among many who appreciate aesthetics.

The Eevee in front of us seemed to be running wildly through the woods because it was frightened.

As if guided by some unseen force, Wei Xin reached out and precisely grasped Ibu's soft waist.

"Buyibuyi~"

Startled, Ibuki closed his eyes tightly and struggled desperately like a fish suddenly pulled ashore.

Despite its small size, Ibrahimovic possessed astonishing power and nearly escaped from Wei Xin's grasp.

If it were someone else, they might throw it away out of fear that the startled Eevee would attack.

Wei Xin, however, was different. He decisively caught Ibrahimovic in his arms, took several steps back, and finally sat down on the ground.

He pressed his neck against Eevee's soft fur, letting Eevee's little paws tear at his coat, sending large swaths of fur flying into the air before landing on both of them.

"Don't be afraid."

Wei Xin gently tightened his arm, restricting Ibu's movements, while his other hand mimicked the motion of a mammal licking its fur, stroking Ibu's back back and forth.

He was very gentle because he was worried about hurting Ibrahimovic.

Soft and warm, like returning to a mother's embrace, Ibu's inner fear gradually subsided, and he slowly stopped struggling.

No male mothers!

At this moment, Growlithe poked half its head out of the bushes.

Unable to protect Wei Xin, he could only carry the clothes that Eevee had previously wrapped around him in his mouth, tuck his tail between his legs, and slowly walk to Wei Xin's side. He lay down on the grass in the woods, dejectedly hanging his head.

Oh no, now I'm going to get sent to the streamer and have to eat dragon fruit.

"Don't be sad, I'm fine, I'm not hurt at all, thank you."

Wei Xin took out one hand and rubbed the Growlithe's head twice.

The Growlithe lay on the ground, raised its eyes to secretly look at Wei Xin, and gently wagged its tail.

"Buyi?"

Feeling the movement in his arms, Wei Xin looked down and met the gaze of Ibu, who had just opened his eyes and was looking puzzled.

[Reassure the frightened Eevee and receive a reward of 1600 Action Points]

Wei Xin gently slipped his thumb under Ibrahimovic's armpit, letting Ibrahimovic stand on his thigh, exposing his hairy belly.

"You're alright now. Are you hurt anywhere?"

Eevee, its heart-striped tail swaying back and forth, had clearly recovered from its panic. It looked down at the clothes it had torn, and lowered its head in grievance.

Little Ibrahimovic has no money and can't afford to pay the fine.

"It's just a piece of clothing."

Wei Xin stood up, gently placed Ibu on the ground, looked up, and gazed at the research institute located on the mountaintop.

I can't help but wonder, what exactly happened in the park?

Landing on the ground, Eevee looked around, trying to find a way to make up for its mistake, and finally its gaze fell on Growlithe.

It hopped up to Growlithe, and without a word, bit off the white coat from Growlithe's mouth. Under Growlithe's puzzled gaze, it hopped and dragged the white coat to Wei Xin's feet.

Ibrahimovic lifted his pink paw and poked Wei Xin's foot.

"You want me to wear this dress?" Wei Xin asked.

"Eevee~" Eevee nodded.

Wei Xin tugged at his clothes and found that his jacket had been torn open by Eevee's claws. Fortunately, he had been wearing many layers because of the weather, so he was not injured.

Considering that he was going to meet people, including his first partner, it would be impolite to be dressed in tattered clothes.

Wei Xin took off his clothes and put on a white coat.

A rustling sound came from the woods. Wei Xin was unsure whether a dangerous Pokémon would jump out next, since not all Pokémon were as harmless as Eevee.

He looked up at the research institute in the distance.

"Let's take refuge at the research institute first."

Wei Xin bent down and picked up Eevee. At that moment, an old man with white hair suddenly jumped out of the grass, patted the weeds off his body, looked up, and met Wei Xin's gaze.

After looking Wei Xin up and down, the old man frowned and asked.

"What are you doing here?"
